ST The Knights of Ren in Episode 9

Discussion in 'Sequel Trilogy' started by dlbates, Dec 13, 2017.

?

Do you believe we will see the Knights of Ren in the movies beyond the flashback from TFA?

  1. They will play a large roll in IX

  2. They will be seen in IX but only briefly, and possibly in another flashback

  3. They will not be seen, but will be mentioned in IX

  4. We have heard the last of the Knights of Ren. Not even a mention in IX.

I think people ignored what was already out there on them though after this much time their membership would have changes I guess. Maybe some of those students are in the group now.

Yes the Knights of Ren now study Pierre-Auguste Renoir, or simply Renoir, their new master! :redsaber:

They left Kylo Ren for Pierre Ren(oir).

Holy crap I'm slow. I never even put together in the TFA vision that the Rey shot there was meant to be Bespin. Seems obvious now, but yeah. Knew about the reports Cloud City was factoring into an earlier version of the script, but eep. Me = dumb dumb.

Don't think it's necessarily all that meaningful for the Rey origin or gives any credence to the clone thing (hope they don't go that route), but it's cool nonetheless. Still seems more vague amorphous "the Force has chosen her to carry on the Skywalker lineage/destiny since Kylo's thrown all that in everyone's faces by turning darkside" type of thing to me, rather than anything more direct. More just like visions of Luke's story popping into her head, doesn't have to be more than that.

Very cool. Always loved the samurai vibes of these guys.

Still really hoping they're not actual force-users though, especially given the weapons they're using that doesn't square too well in my head for some reason. Just have them be believers/fanatics, maybe like some evil flipside to the Church Of The Force types, they're really into all the history and lore and stuff but aren't actually trained up.

Sort of more fun anyway, this little scummy boy band loyal to Kylo running around pillaging and spreading chaos in their fancy dressup outfits. Then Smith's dude can fill the darksider role, obviously with Palpatine looming above everything.

So Kylo goes against the KoR. I had little to no interest in these guys until just now. Will be interesting to see if they playout the force vision from TFA. Can’t wait for more.

I don't get any samurai vibes. They feel like emo custom bounty hunters. One of them looks like he's wielding a FF7-inspired Buster Sword.
I was always interested in these guys, but that is not a good selling picture. Is that the only one that came out of VF?

Anyway, I still hope they are not supposed to be former Jedi/Luke students because it really doesn't make any sense that that they would discard their superior lightsabers for these run-of-the-mill weapons and follow Kylo Ren of all people.

I still find it hard to believe these guys are that hyped and Kylo just takes one out that easy.

    Unless they have lightsaber armor.

The outfits are very samurai. Kylo in TFA too for that matter, along with the red guards in VIII.

The outer layer/coat thing of the dude on the left has that Japanese warrior feel to it, the helmet of the dude to the left of J.J. is samurai up the wazoo, like Vader's. The fact they all seem very ideological/fanatical to a cause, probably the types of guys who aren't going to surrender, they're like this little unified warrior band who, going by the descriptions of the helmet repair scene, feel like they're going to be pretty devoted to some bigger cause or whatever.

Where did you hear Ben takes one of them down, Daxon, is that in the VF piece? Haven't read through it all yet.

^ Only one guy’s outfit looks samurai-inspired, and it’s mostly due to the helmet. Not that it matters anyway.

Their costumes are like a mix of Kylo Ren's and Maul's(TPM/SOLO) mixed with Ren faire. One of them is using that axe with we saw in Dryden Vos' yact collection next to that red Mauldalorian suit of armor. I suppose instead of lightsabers they'll be using some mix of blasters and explosives combined with energy and plasma based weapons like we've seen with the Praetorians, Dryden and Riot FO Stormtroopers.

I don't think it wise though to have a grenade belt strapped to yourself like that when up against a Force sensitive, lol.

Ehh, carrying grenades around on you is probably pretty damn dangerous by definition anyway, haha.

I want to understand the reasoning why they didn't add lightsabers to their arsenal since they are ex-Jedi.

    Either....

    1. They did build their own sabers as students but got rid of them for some reason.

    2. They never had them. What if Luke never made it mandatory for his students to construct lightsabers? Ben Solo was the only student to have made his own.

Maybe Kylo took their lightsabers away fearing one of them would turn on him as he did Luke. That would be far more interesting to me than force users choosing not to use the coolest weapon in the Galaxy.

We don't know this. They hinted at it being a possibility, but there's wiggle-room on that.

Could be the other Jedi that left the temple simply went their own way, or were with Ben a while but had a falling out or he killed them, plenty of other options. It seems likely the Knights are the students, yeah, but wouldn't take it as the case just yet.

I think they are setting up for at least most of Luke's students not wielding a saber. Would help Ben in his rampage against the students.

Could be part of the reason why some students left with Ben. They lacked the weaponry/skill to face Ben, and were given a choice of dying alongside the rest of the students or leaving with Ben to First Order territory.

I like to think that if Ben was the only one to make a saber amongst Luke's students, Luke still had a few sabers that were shared amongst his temple for training, etc. Old ones found during his travels searching for Jedi knowledge. Ben could destroy said sabers during his betrayal while making him and Luke not the sole saber users in the pre-fall days.

I think they may be assuming things. The stills show that guy that Kylo attacks appears to be a "Clan Warrior" similar to the one that Kylo kills in Rey's vision of the Knights of Ren. Maybe they are just off screen however in that scene.

I wonder how the Knights of Ren will be explained as they started as a group just after the events in Ep 6 so this current group wouldn't be the original ones. Are they mostly Luke's former students now?

I also think they assumed incorrectly hence why they issued this correction: "An earlier version of this article mischaracterized a scene including Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren."

If the guy Kylo takes down in the trailer is really one of the Knights of Ren, then I guessing they're no more than fodder in this film. Honest shame, if true.

Wait, they mischaracterized a scene between Kylo and the KoR? What did they edit out? That's hilarious if they have to backtrack on saying "VF can confirm..." about something that it couldn't confirm lol.

Glad to hear the guy in the trailer wasn't one of the KoR after all, he sure didn't look like one to me at the time.
