So happy to see my favorite line of Star Wars reference books coming back for another installment. Being written by Jason Fry only makes it that more awesome. Can't wait:

TFA Cross-sections had an error which was supposed to be resolved in an updated or second edition. Heard it wouldn't happen until the entire first run was sold. If they're not republishing it, then after Episode IX comes out, they should just combine the three cross-sections into one book for the trilogy.

Official site says 13 ships, which I think is a little more than The Force Awakens cross-sections book.

I just hope they give him more material to work with this time, the TFA Cross-Sections was pathetic. And that wasn't Fry's fault in anyway, he could only work with what was in TFA- oh look, the Falcon with a different sensor dish, an X-wing, a TIE Fighter, another slightly fancier TIE Fighter, etc.

The cover is hopefully a good indicator of newer stuff.

Never really bought TFA version so I'll probably pass on this.

Wake me up when they reveal the Visual Dictionary

If this book has the warship we see Leia & Ackbar on the bridge of in the trailer, I've got your next mortgage payment covered! ;)

God, what a great time to be a SW fan! :D

Wish they'd just combine this into the visual dictionary like the Rogue One guide. Was a fantastic guide. I'll probably pass on this, but looking forward to the visual guide!

Stealing a list from Star_Desperado, this cross section book is shaping up to be mighty impressive. So many new starships and vehicles. Really looking forward to the Supremacy, Mandator-IV, and the Raddus. I am guessing if anything gets reduced to a smaller sub-section it would be the Mandator-IV, though maybe it plays a major role in the movie. I would think the Resistance bomber, the AT-M6, and TIE Silencer are locks to get their own pages.

Thanks for quoting my post King Al. I'd like to clarify some stuff though.

The TFA ICS book had 12 vehicles in it, two of which don't really appear in the movie at all despite being promoted in marketing (FO Snowspeeder and Quadjumper) and two of which are clones (FO TIE and FO SF TIE), and it misses a couple background vehicles that don't matter (like the Resistance fleet above Hosnian that were just OT things, and the standard non-Poe X-wing). However all of the vehicles in the guide with the exception of the Eravana and the Resistance shuttle were fairly heavily advertised and promoted prior to the film's release. So we had about 9-10 vehicles being shown off before the movie came out.

The TLJ ICS book claims to have 13 vehicles in it (already more than TFA), of which we already know one confirmed to be included (Resistance Skispeeder on the cover), and we have 9-10 new vehicles definitely confirmed for the movie, being marketed to varying degrees, and about 5-7 or so that are seen in some promo material or insinuated by Lucasfilm employees. I'd say our chances are high that we're going to be getting a good variety of new, major, quality vehicles in the TLJ ICS.

Naturally we do not know just how many other vehicles there will be in TLJ, but if any as yet unseen vehicles are important, they're probably going to displace things like the Canto Bight Police Speeder or the Canto Bight Luxury Hovercar rather than the Resistance Bomber or Mandator IV.

@jasonfry Again, fantastic job with the latest installment in the ICS collection, hope it inspires some young kids out there to be engineers and scientists like it did for me long ago. Beyond a lesson in hyperspace mechanics ;), I had two, I think non-spoilery, questions about the Mandator-IV, and one other, if you would be so kind:

    - I didn't see it labeled in the ICS, and I didn't visually see them in the movie, but does the Mandator-IV class have shields or does it go full Imperial era TIE fighter?

    - Any insight into the in-universe choice for going with the name Mandator? Just Kuat-Entralla going for a connection to the past? Similar in design to the Mandator I to III? Similar in function? I am guessing its number one or number three.

    - Any inspiration for the hyperspace accelerated computers of the First Order? Thought that was a really cool idea.

Loved all of the little tidbits here and there. "The Ship of Legends" paragraph made my day for sure. Loved that Xim and Core World Dreadnoughts & Battlecrusiers all got some name drops. Thought the superlative line was funny, since it reminds me of the old EU writing rules Pablo had posted on twitter, about not using words like biggest, fastest, most powerful, etc... Of course again the Mandator-IV was a very welcome addition to the Star Wars canon.

Really enjoyed the cutaways and information on the Resistance ships as well. Always like to see some major non-turbolaser based weaponry, so the 100 megaton Plasma bombs were really neat on the Ninka. I don't know if it was, but was that the first mention that KDY proper is still around and making ships for the New Republic?

Lastly, great to see the walkers and some of the ground vehicles get their due as well. The AT-HH and AT-M6 information was great, and it was really cool to see a magnetic confinement fusion toroid reactor there on the AT-M6.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone. Now just can't wait for the Episode 9 ICS by @jasonfry :)
