Urgh, don't remind me. It's a terrible thing to break a carbon fiber blade. It's like killing a unicorn.

Ok guys Im in a bit of a pickle here. The guy that I asked to help make a voting page has moved from Canada to London. He's probably busy getting his things in order that he hasn't been able to check his emails.

Does anyone here know how to or knows someone who can create a Voting System where first place gets 3 points, 2nd place gets 2 and 1st place gets 1 point?

No don't recommend Durb, he's got his own things going on. Or bgii_2000, cause that's the guy who moved from Can. To London.

    Anyone else??

Shall it be in php at the page? And how about login and that kind of stuff? And shall every person vote for three movies?

Can maybe help out, but I need to know more first, i'm not an php expert, but i know the foundations.

I know there are quite a few free places to make these things, and if not posted on any other place than here, you won't have to deal with tons of outsiders either. Can't remember the places right now, of course, but they exist. If not, there's always hotscripts.com. They're easy to follow, and easy to set up. I'd help out, but I don't have the time at the moment, what with roto, graphic designs, a job, a game in the making, a social web community and what not.

Mangenoll, I sent you a PM.

Vidina, I know nothing of PHP scripting. Only pure HTML coding and not much of that either lol.

sorry i'm posting this so late, but i've been pretty busy. In searching through the board to get up to speed with stuff, i found that a few of you were wondering if a hybrid blade of wood and aluminum would work. i was planning on using that for my entry before my partner was unable to film. i have the blades built. however, i have not tested them in actual fighting. i was going to use a 5/8 in. wooden dowel, but i found that my dad's work has tons of 11/16 in. aluminum tubes. they fit perfectly together, and my dad's work lost their customer who needed the 11/16 in. tubes so they have tons of it. long story short, anyone looking for a supplier of aluminum could check out ksmetals.com also, i apologize if this was already resolved and for the length of this post.

Sorry, I can't send PM:s, I haven't posted 20 messages here at the forum. Too bad. Can you solve it in someways obijuan? Or you could email me to my hotmail adress. It ends with hotmail.com, before that, it's an at sign, and before that is my name here at the forum. I don't like spam so that's why I'm diffuse in my email-printing :p.

Anyway here's my message to you:

As much as possible... And I'm not sure if I'm able to create it, it depends on the grade of difficulty.

First of all: I'm from sweden, and it's night here right now so I'm going to be offline for the next eight hours (at least :p). And is the voting-system the system we are going to use to vote for the videos, or is this the system that the jury shall be using?

What has the voting been like previous years? Can you draw something fast in paint or something to show the functionality? And/or maybe write down all aspects and functionality of the voting-process you can come up with? And do you have a working voting system (from the last year or something) that is possible to reuse, just update it some?

And where shall the results be saved? In a database (very little knowledge unfortunately), in a file (insecure I believe) or somewhere else? And what about logging in, or shall everybody be able to vote (even non-members) or just persons logged in?

My main programming areas are xhtml, css and Java, but I'm learning php at the moment and it's quite similar to Java in some ways, and I hope I can help in some way.

If the problem can't be solved, maybe "E-Mail your votes to this address: sabercomp@theforce.net (or something)" could work? A lot of work for the person who is going to read all emails, but still it's maybe the best solution.

From what I remember, because bgii_2000 was the one who created the system last year, it had a small database that I'm sure calculated and produced the results to the public (I'm just guessing what the Database would do). The system would be manually turned on when voting began and manually turned off when voting ends.

As far as having a copy from last year, there is none. It all took place on his website.

The voting system is simple. First place would get 3 points whereas second place would get 2 points and third place would get 1 point.

Everyone is able to vote, but no more than once.

    Hi everyone:

After Obijuan posted about the popular vote issues, I reluctantly offered to help out. I realize this could be seen as a conflict of interest because I have entered the contest, so I want to assure you that I've made every effort to ensure fairness and transparency in the voting process. I've set up a e-mail verified, IP logged and limited voting process which sends real time results to Obijuan for verification. At the end of the voting period, Obijuan will receive a direct database dump of the results with complete collected information on each voter, including e-mail address and IP address.

You'll be able to vote by following the link on this page following the release of the entries. The voting is automated to begin at 8pm tomorrow night unless Obijuan asks me to delay. You can only vote once, and once you've voted you cannot see the results until Obijuan posts them.

Good luck everyone, I wish you all the best and I'm looking forward to seeing your entries and my competition!
