As you all know, the late Jedi Master Jorus C'baoth was awarded in impressive resumé in Tim Zahn's book Dark Force Rising. However, Zahn's original dating was rendered erroneous with the release of the prequel triology and the new placement of the Clone Wars. Since then, most guidebooks that included a brief retelling of C'baoth's life simply avoided mentioning dates. The 1993 "Dark Force Rising Sourcebook" avoided the question of the timeline by using phrases such as "when he was seventeen" or "twelve years later." Jorus' birthdate of "112 P.E." was only retconned to 70 BBY in 2002, with the release of the "Roleplaying Game Revised Core Rulebook." The date of his death was established to be 27 BBY, per the release of "Outbound Flight" in 2007. We now have his birth- and deathyear, some of the events in between can be placed on the timeline, but some other are still uncertain. I hereby provide the results of my research on C'baoth's new timeline. The dates and events highlighted in green were explicitely stated, while the others are based on calculations. See! I can search, but I can't count! That's why I need others! Thanks for pointing this out to the absent-minded professor. I shall edit the oirginal post accordingly.
To be honest, I just assumed the RPG date for his birth was wrong. Jorus was mentioned in DP, but I don't recall anything special about it.
Now that would fit perfectly. According to RGRCR, C'baoth left Palpatine's service before the Battle of Naboo and set off to fight the Dark Jedi in the Elrood sector. This new birthdate is clearly still off, but that's all we have, unfortunately. Jorus appeared briefly in DP. It is said that he offered his support to Bail Antilles as a potential nominee for the pending Chancery election in 32 BBY. He was described as a "wild-eyed Human" and was said to have resolved the Alderaan Ascendancy Contention recently.
the Dark Jedi in Elrood.. can they be tied to Plagueis or Sidious? also, Bail Antilles running for Chancellor and Jorus supporting him despite his ties to Palpatine is pure irony.. or did Palpatine manipulate Jorus to sabbotage Bail Antilles campaign somehow?
Actually, the recent Essential Guide to Warfare (p. 91) mentions the Judicials demilitarizing the sector Ando is in circa 39 BBY - could that be fit into this timeline without much effort? It would seem the appropriate time for Senate representatives and Jedi observers to be there on Ando, and Palpatine and C'baoth could have been there, right?
Some more elaboration on that from Warfare: Followed by this from the Revised Core Rulebook: Do you guys think that this lines up pretty well? It could be the incident that brings Palpatine and C'baoth together, because the details and the timing seem right on the surface, but I wanted to get a ruling from the group.
Indeed, that bit of info from Warfare does seem to line up well with C'baoth's revised timeline. As well as one could hope for at this point, anyway.
I hope they explain when and why he was cloned and who brought the clone to Wayland. I'd love to know the backstory about him! Also, remember in The Last Command, Luke tells Joruus that it was in the Katana fleet records that he was a clone. BUT, that was the first mention of it. They didn't mention any of them going through the records and discovering this. You think there was a part that was cut out?
Katana Fleet was retconned to be looong before Jorus time as per retcons.. so he could not be mentioned in there if not someone had placed records there after the Katana fleet was lost and found again!
Very interesting thread. I keep waiting to see another reference to Palpatine and C'Baoth being somehow involved in ExGal (like the RCR bio mentions). I always thought it was a quite smart way to tie up disparate sources.
The RCR bio has Palpatine and C'baoth being "friends"--whether Palps would actually care for anyone is a matter of discussion. But if you look at the way C'baoth talks to the Chancellor in the Outbound Flight novel, it seems their relations had shown a clear deterioration. As regards the marauding Dark Jedi, the RCR said C'baoth actually left Palpatine's service because he sensed the dark side growing stronger... Pretty ironic if you ask me. That would line up pretty well, indeed. I wonder if Dan Wallace had C'baoth biography when he mentioned those "Andoan Wars"...
I don't think Palps ever had (or wanted) friends, just people that he could use to his own advantage. Looking at the way Outbound Flight was set up (as a sort of Generation Ship), my guess is that C'boath intended to 'hothouse' Force users for his very own Jedi Order. I wonder if he had caught a glimpse of Order 66.
Outbound Flight had several goals.. -C'baoth wanted his own Jedi Order splinter group -partially map the Unknown regions -proof scientific theories about breaking the hyperspace barrier around the UR and around the galaxy itself -find new grounds to mine and strip of ressources for companies sponsoring Outbound Flight -create colonies in the Unknown Regions and start making them known basically.. Outbound Flight is exactly what Grand Admiral Thrawn did for Palpatine later on! He got the job he stopped Jorus dooing! Break into the UR => Map it => make it safe and locate ressources => created bases and colonies to strip them => protect the Empire from threats and destroy those => watch out for the Far Outsiders and Vergere => and he too created his own Empire of the Hand like Jorus would have his own Jedi of the Fist or whatever
