    ?Time for what?? Luke asked.

Leia elbowed him in the ribs, ?To find Obi-Wan and uncover the greatest Jedi secret of them all.? She whispered, looking to Lillie for confirmation.

?Yes,? Lillie replied, smiling at the triumphant look the Princess gave him, ?that was my first mission for the Alliance. When I arrived back on Alderaan, I went to see your father and was shown to the waiting room outside his private office.?

    --------------------------------------------------

?Lillie!? The Viceroy hurried towards her. ?How are you?? He asked, before telling her what her mission entailed.

As she listened to him, Lillie could hear her mother?s voice coming from his office, talking to someone she did not know.

?We are running out of time.? Marissa spoke urgently. ?It has to be now.?

?If go to Obi-Wan you do, in great danger will you place him.? The voice replied. ?On this all depends.?

?I know,? she replied quietly. ?That is why I shall not go to him now.? Lillie strained to hear the rest of the conversation but could only make out her mother?s reply. ?My daughter.?

As the flickering holo image disappeared and Bail and Lillie entered the office, Marissa sat down at the desk, a wry smile on her face as she quickly added a last line to the papers in front of her. Then jumping up, she ran to Lillie and hugged her.

    ?I?ve missed you.? Lillie murmured.

?Are you sure you want to do this?? Marissa asked, looking at her in concern.

?I am sure.? Her daughter replied firmly. ?But don?t you want to see him??

?I do Lillie, I do,? Marissa told her with a sad smile, ?but it would be too dangerous.?

?It wasn?t before,? Lillie began; unable to understand why her mother was giving up what could be her last chance to see the Jedi.

?I never told you this but a few months ago I was picked up by an Imperial patrol. I cannot risk going there if they are still monitoring my movements.?

?Is that why you never returned to Dantooine?? Lillie looked fearfully at her.

Marissa nodded, ?Tell him I?m sorry.? Returning to the desk, she sealed the papers before handing them to her. ?Give him this.?

?I will,? Lillie replied, as they embraced. ?When do I leave??

    Marissa released her, ?Now.?

Bail led her through the hangar towards the freighter, explaining as they went. ?They will take you to Tatooine but after that you are on your own. Once you have made contact with him, hire a ship and get to Dantooine as fast as possible.?

    Lillie nodded, ?I will Bail.?

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the freighter left hyperspace, Lillie hurried to the cockpit and stopped in her tracks when she saw the Star Destroyer in orbit above the planet.

?They are not letting any traffic into Mos Eisley,? the Captain turned to her. ?The best I can do is drop you off at Mos Espa, then you can get a transport to wherever you are going.?

?Thank you Captain, I?ll be ready.?

The ramp lowered and Lillie stepped into the blazing heat of Tatooine. Shimmering in the distance was the town of Mos Espa and shielding her face from the twin suns, Lillie started towards it.

    Lillie's going to Obi-Wan!

I love the way this story changes between her conversations with Luke and Leia and the flashbacks. It adds an aura of mystery!

    Part 7

Bail listened to the captain?s report, frowning as he learned of the change of plans. The detour to Mos Espa would waste valuable time, time they did not have. With a sigh, the Viceroy activated his comlink, ?Elissa? Contact Marissa, tell her I need to see her immediately.?

    --------------------------------

The plains of Tatooine stretched far into the distance as Lillie pushed the speeder as hard as she dared. Looming large overhead, the midday twin suns continued their assault on the wastelands below, keeping other travellers away. At this rate she hoped to reach the Jedi by nightfall and return to Mos Espa the next day, before the Imperials turned their attention there. Luckily the landscape was so desolate, Lillie mused to herself, that she was not missing anything as it sped by.

Searching for one of the smaller dealers from which to purchase the speeder, Lillie had been careful not to attract attention but as the engine threatened to cut out again, she began to wish that she had obtained it from a slightly more reputable place. As if it to confirm her worries, the engine spluttered, died and the speeder came to a halt. Pulling her scarf over her face, Lillie climbed out and retrieving the small toolbox, began to investigate.

Out there, somewhere, was the canyon where her mother had been reunited with Obi-Wan. With a shiver, despite the heat, Lillie began to remember the tales of the Sand People that Marissa had told her, never thinking that one day, she would send her daughter there.

Swearing to herself, Lillie shoved the tools back under the seat. The basic training she had received from the Alliance would not help her here. Consulting the chart, Lillie realised that there was a settlement about an hours walk away but on glancing skywards, she finally noticed that while she had been working, clouds had gathered and the sands were dancing in the strengthening winds.

    -------------------------------------------------------

?I don?t like it.? Marissa stood in front of Bail?s desk. ?I should go.?

Slowly the Viceroy raised his eyes to her, ?We agreed that you would not know his location.?

    ?But the Imperials??

?Are everywhere,? Bail sought to reassure her. ?Lillie knows what to do. She will be careful. It won?t be too late.?

Turning away from him, Marissa began to pace the room, ?Hurry Lillie, hurry.? She whispered.

    -------------------------------------------------------

Through the howling wind, Lillie thought she heard a sound but the swirling sands revealed nothing. Waiting, she watched as a figure emerged and seeing the speeder, started towards it.

The man turned back and shouted to his companions, ?Luke was right. There is someone out here.?

Sounds like Tatooine triple-A's roadside service is pretty quick when you need it. ;)

    Part 8

Climbing quickly out of the speeder, Lillie prepared to run. Where, she did not know but at least she would be able to lose any pursuers in the storm.

"Do you need help?" The man stopped just in front of her, lowering his blaster.

Lillie tried to make out his face, hidden under layers of protective clothing. He seemed harmless and out here she did not have any choice. "Yes, please."

After examining the speeder for a few moments the man disappeared from view and Lillie waited. Straining to hear anything above the winds, she listened out for any ships overhead. The Imperials were unlikely to send out a shuttle in these conditions but anyone doing a sensor sweep of the area would be curious.

A battered speeder drew up alongside her and the man jumped out carrying some tow cables. "Get in. I can fix it but not here. Our home is not far."

"I can pay." She told him, peering into the speeder. In the front sat a woman, as heavily covered as her companion and half asleep in the back was a young boy.

The man shrugged, "I'm Owen Lars and this is my wife, Beru."

The kitchen of the homestead provided a welcome relief from the storm that still raged outside. Owen and Luke, whose name Lillie had subsequently learned, were still working on the speeder.

Lillie smiled gratefully as Beru placed food on the table. "Thank you for finding me."

"It was Luke," the woman admitted, "we thought he was dreaming but?" Pouring them both a drink, she sat down. "We were on our way back from Mos Eisley. The Imperials aren't letting anything in or out."

"When did that start?" Lillie asked, hoping that it was not linked to her arrival on Tatooine.

"A couple of days." Beru replied. "This isn't the first time they've done it." She paused, "Can I ask you something?"

    Lillie nodded.

"How are things out there?" Beru asked cautiously. "We are so far from anything here."

    "Getting worse."

"Almost finished." Owen entered the room followed by Luke.

"Thank you," Lillie nodded to him, "and to you Luke." Beru's remark had sparked her curiosity; she had not seen the Lars' speeder until it was almost upon her. "I understand you found me."

The boy smiled shyly at her as he helped himself to food. "I knew someone was?"

"It was just luck," Owen interrupted. "What are you doing out this far anyway?"

    "Visiting a relative."

"No one else lives out that way apart from?" He trailed off and as his eyes met Lillie's, she realised he knew who she was looking for.

"Luke!" Owen snapped, "Finish work on the speeder." As soon as the boy had gone, he turned towards her, "You will leave as soon as it is ready."

    Lillie got to her feet.

"Sit down. You can stay until the storm has passed." Beru spoke up, placing a hand on her husband's arm. "Owen?"

There was something in his wife's tone that seemed to calm him and after a moment he relented. "We don't want any trouble."

    -------------------------------------------------------

"That was you?" Luke smiled in amazement. "Uncle Owen never liked anyone mentioning Ben." His smile faded as he remembered the events of the past few days.

Lillie nodded. "He just wanted to protect his family." At the time she had wondered how Luke had found her but now she knew.

    ---------------------------------------------------

Somewhere out on the wastes banthas called to one another, the sound echoing loudly as the speeder entered the canyon. But as far as Lillie could tell in the fading light, she seemed to be alone. Venturing further into the canyon, a sound from above made her look up and she ducked as a rock fall hit the speeder. Followed by another and another. It was only then that she realised it was blaster fire and glancing up, saw shadowy figures emerge along the edge. The cry one of them gave as she sped away, confirmed her worst suspicions. Sand People.

    Uh-oh! That can't be good.

Loved seeing Owen, Beru and Luke in this post. I liked the way Beru tried to serve as a mediator and calm Owen down when he discovered who Lillie was going to see.
