Were Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan sent to take over the work of Master Sifo-Dyas or just baby sit and report?

KA - you're taking us back to even before The Lost Temple started. ? I wanted to show what happened with Sifo-Dyas for ages. He didn?t know for sure that Marissa and Obi-Wan were related but guessed that maybe they were. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were selected by the Council to replace him.

Marissa hurried down the corridor of the Jedi outpost on Dantooine and pushed open the heavy wooden doors to Master Sifo-Dyas?s chamber. - Oh, and you're going to just stop there??? Yes! Sorry I ran out of time. Sifo-Dyas will make an appearance in the next instalment. At least this time I am not off on holiday (yet!) ;)

Gina ? Thanks! Sorry about the cliffie. Lots of questions will be answered (well maybe one or two) in the next instalment and a couple more will be raised.

CT - I hate cliffies. They should be against the law. ? But they can be fun! :)

TJ - Well that was definately worth the wait. I love all the detail put into this. Great set up for what is to come. ? Thank you! Am glad you enjoyed it.

PK - Were Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan sent to take over the work of Master Sifo-Dyas or just baby sit and report? ? They were just sent to oversee the work, the Jedi Council did not expect Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon to get quite as involved as they did!

    Thanks for reading everyone! :)

Great post, Sabe! You really are keeping all the balls in the air with the different storylines. I like how they all relate. Yes, cliffies are evil. But fun, too. :)

Sorry this is so short but I am off to the States for 2 weeks tomorrow and haven't had much time. Not sure how much time I will get for writing while I am away, so I hope you will all return when I get back :)

    Part 15

As the queue edged slowly forward, Obi-Wan pushed his head further over his face, before glancing around the hangar. Although no one was paying attention to him or Lillie, the Jedi could not shake his unease about leaving Luke unguarded. Realising that Lillie was looking at him, he smiled with a confidence he did not really feel. Their destination also concerned him, it was too close to Coruscant.

Obi-Wan stopped for a moment, unsure what to do, then Marissa?s words came back to him. This could be our most desperate hour and he allowed himself to be pushed up the ramp by the momentum of the crowd.

    ---------------------------------------

Pausing in the doorway, Marissa waited until her eyes became accustomed to the gloom. Shutting the door quietly behind her, she crossed the room to the open window.

Master Sifo-Dyas sat with his head bowed. As she knelt beside his chair, Marissa studied his face and realised with a heavy heart, how old and sick he had become. Esme and Mikas, who had once worked at the Temple on Coruscant and had volunteered for the mission alongside Sifo-Dyas, had warned her but she had not believed them.

?I wanted to see outside.? Sifo-Dyas smiled as he looked at the view. Marissa followed his gaze to the landscape she knew so well.

In the twilight she could make out the valley stretching into the distance and glimpsed the stream that flowed through it. The large stone structure was built on the edge of one of the smaller valleys and was the only building visible. The rest of the outpost was reached by passageways that stretched far into the hillside. There they had felt safe from the Empire.

Grasping her hand in his, the Jedi Master turned to her. ?Thank you for coming.? Marissa shook her head, unable to speak.

    Part 16

After managing to secure a cabin for himself and Lillie, Obi-Wan stretched out on the lower bunk and continued Marissa's letter.

    -------------------------------

Now is not the time to explain to you, all the work I carried out for the Jedi. I will leave it to Master Sifo-Dyas to tell you what you need to know. Whenever my work allowed, I would join him and we would work on deciphering the third tablet.

During his time alone on Dantooine, he also worked on discovering the rest of the 'history' tablet. Obi-Wan, only you know the secret of how it ends. When you see him, please tell him what it said.

I was there when Sifo-Dyas learned about the creation of the clone army and heard his denials. He did not order it and would never have acted without the permission of the Council.

Someone within the Council had access to the files relating to Anobis and learned of the history tablet. Whether they regarded it as a future prediction or gave them the idea about using the army, it no longer matters. We now know that it was Count Dooku and working for Palpatine he placed the order for the army and used Sifo-Dyas's name.

As you know we finished work on the third tablet about a year before the Clone Wars began and I delivered our findings to the Temple on Coruscant. You told me that, as Sifo-Dyas and I had expected, the Council were sceptical about what the translation revealed. Obi-Wan, I know about events on Tatooine and about Qui-Gon. I know that this event changed everything.

During the Clone Wars we spent much of our time on either Alderaan, or when Ben felt that we would be in danger, we would stay on Dantooine. During this time, Sifo-Dyas and I worked on some of the other Jedi artifacts that had been brought from the Temple. I was investigating one of these on the Outer Rim when the Republic fell. Ben was on his mission for the Alliance, so Lillie and I returned to Alderaan and that was when Vader came for us. You know the rest.

    -------------------------

Obi-Wan looked up as Lillie entered the cabin.

"Everything appears to be alright", she told him.

The Jedi nodded in relief as the engines roared to life and the ship prepared for take off. Lillie lay down on the opposite bunk and closed her eyes. Soon they would be with him.

    ------------------------------------
With the translation completed, I thought my work was over but I could not forget about the Jedi tomb we found on Yavin IV. After Ben's death we returned to Alderaan, I wanted Lillie to be safe in case the Empire came for me. After a few months I sought permission to open the Jedi's tomb and Bail, Lillie and I returned to the Massassi Temple.

Obi-Wan sat up, his mind racing. They had not had time to explore the tomb further. Bail had arrived with the Emperor's order to take Marissa back to Coruscant and they had hurried to locate the rest of the missing pieces of the key to the holocron. Over 2 years later, Marissa had returned there. With trembling hands, Obi-Wan turned to the next page.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    "Marissa?" The voice spoke gently.

Blinking, she sat up. "Sorry I must have been?"

"Dreaming?" The old man smiled at her.

Marissa nodded, rubbing her eyes. "Except it wasn't a dream. It was just after Ben died. Lillie and I were hurrying to meet Bail and I looked up and thought I saw Obi-Wan in the crowd.

"Your eyes can deceive you." Sifo-Dyas chuckled.

"Will you ask him for me please?"

"He'll be here soon. You can ask him yourself."

Marissa shook her head sadly. "I'll be gone before then. The longer I stay here, the more danger I put you in."

"No Marissa," He smiled kindly. "There is nothing left to fear."

Managing to return his smile, she took his hand. "I thought Jedi didn't fear."

He laughed, "We don't and neither I think, do you?" Sifo-Dyas leaned back against the pillows, his face briefly contorted by pain.

Marissa jumped up in alarm, 'Can I get you anything?"

Okay, back home and finally getting caught up with all my reading.

Nooo!! You can't stop there. Argh!

"It was then that I knew that I would never be afraid of him again. He has destroyed my family but my work will go towards destroying him."

I liked this part because it demonstrated once again Marissa's inner strength.

I have the feeling Obi-Wan had better hurry!

Nicely done, Sabe. The scene between Marissa and Sifo-Dyas was very touching and moving! I was especially moved by his thought that he should have shared his fellow Jedi's fate. :_|
