I’m not one to usual leap un-ironic praise to something Boston sports-related, but I really do dig those; the Green Monster is as iconic to the character of the Red Sox/Fenway, as say, the ivy is at Wrigley Field for the Cubs, or the random beachballs in the stands at Dodger Stadium. They actually got a City Connect 100% right.
I will grant that. So is the next uniform going to look like Pesky's Pole? Besides...I thought it was "City Connect"? In that case, the Boston Subway colors probably are closer to premise than something inside their ballpark. But all of this is meaningless for 2 main reasons. 1. If you are going to put "RED SOX" across the front, and have no red on the uniform...anywhere...you've missed the mark. But "Boston" or FENWAY, or some other nickname...but "RED SOX" on a green and white uniform is cognitive dissonance as a fashion statement. 2. If you're going to try to wow people...make it look like the uniform has quality. This may be the "cheapest" looking City Connect so far. Looks like it was created by a web app, printed out, and slapped on. -------------------------------- How many years has the City Connect things been happening? 3? 4? I still have not seen a fan wearing any of them anywhere. Trying to recall if I've even seen a fan wearing one on TV.
Why the hell not? If it makes sense for the franchise/their fans, who gives a **** what anyone else thinks? A little fun in sports ain’t a bad thing. Semi-related: if the Dodgers had the cajones to do one official beach ball giveaway day, regardless of the actual day/opponent, I’d be so ****ing happy.
Maybe they'll do a beachball City Connect uniform for ya. EDIT: The Cardinals just took another series...
Volpe just doesn't remind me of a #5 hitter in the lineup. I just don't see what Boone sees. Chokes twice with the bases loaded tonight.
He is seeming like potential future season trade ammunition with George Lombard Jr climbing the MiLB ladder. Still young. Moldable. You can make many things out of a young shortstop. He's good but he's not quite at the level of locked in. Well, he is technically for now. The Yankees can't afford another infield question mark after Oswaldo Cabrera went down.
I know all over the NY Sports Media, they're talking about how the Mets gave last night's game away when Alonso overthrew the ball (could've been an inning-ending dp, but as Michael Kay always says, that's the fallacy of the predetermined outcome). My only contribution to Mets fans suggesting that's where the game was lost is that earlier in the game, they'd only tied it off of Fried on a wild throw. Fault the Mets' hitting moreso than their defense; that's my point. They could've easily lost the game 2-1 anyway.
So during his first AB against Boston at Fenway today, the Red Sox fans serenated the park - not with jeers against Soto, nor with cheers in support of him - they serenated the park with, "Yankees Suck!" Smh
Dang looks like Polar Bear's got the yips. That one was on a magnitude worse than the one against the Yankees. How do you miss that short hand off in the Major League? Didn't have much consequence but it was the worse baseball play easily.
Unsettling stat I just heard during D’Backs/Dodgers: Dodger starting pitching has the fewest innings pitched thus far out of any starting staff in all of baseball.
What's the over/under on Kershaw actually retiring after this year? I'm still trying to understand what he thinks he's got left to prove to anyone.
"Hey, Clayton, you wanna make a few million dollars, play part time, and be on the prohibitive favorite to win a title without tarnishing your legacy in any way?"
Rickey Henderson played multiple seasons in independent ball after the majors because some guys just don't want to stop. Amazing.
