Alaska -- if this were the GFFA - you'd be on a diff planet -- 1 ecosystem a piece!

The Amazon deal was announced over the weekend. I actually had bought a Roku stick and not opened it yet -- so I returned it!

Funny how you’ve made about 30 posts in the last few hours and not once did you mention that it felt goofy or animated. But at least you’ve now got something else to say other than “mystery box”.

I had forgotten that there can be a lot of nitpicking sometimes (on my part too I guess?).... anyway, I meant that little Yoduski's eyes don't have any white in them. You can see only dark brown and black, hence my "objection" (I don't really mind it that much, it was just an observation), since this little guy does not seem that they would grow up to look like Yoda or Yaddle or Master Oteg, when it comes to the eyes. I mean, maybe since it's a baby, the white part in his/her eyes will appear later in life I guess, which also weirded me out. If Yoda is super old at 900, do really the babies of his species spend a good 6-7% of their lives still in the cradle?? But yeah, definitely not focusing on this minor detail. Just wondering.

This is not what people mean when they talk about JJ's mystery box. This is a well established theme, that does not limit itself to TFA. A TV show sets up the scenery and the characters in the first few episodes, and then you get to learn more about them. What JJ does, is that he intentionally, and quite glaringly (lens flare pun not intended), hints towards specific questions and their answers, and then never provides these answers. This has happened time and again, across his entire filmography. The Mandalorian didn't do that. It didn't really scream anywhere "HEY WHAT COULD THIS BE??", to never address it later on.

So is Ludwig Goransson the 2nd best composer in the Star Wars franchise or what?

    Initial impressions:

It's great, definitely feels like an old EU Boba Fett short story, captures the essence of what bounty hunting looks like in the GFFA. The production value is fantastic for a tv show, I think this might be the most impressive premiere of a sci-fi show I've seen since ST: Voyager, at least in terms of production. The world building and lore was surprisingly good, much better than the ST imo. The way they used jargon and naturally referenced history was on point. The music was fine, not amazing but it worked, and it was nice to see them do a credits sequence that is fun to watch, and actually at the end of the episode.

A few minor complaints, the stunt casting of Brian Pohsen kind of pulled me out of it, hopefully they don't do too much of that. The Mythrol felt a little bit too human, more like a Star Trek character than a Star Wars one, but he disappeared pretty quickly so it wasn't a problem. Also it was a bit disappointing to see it be so short! Hopefully the other episodes are longer because it's great. I wonder if they made it short on purpose to potentially edit down to 25 min episodes for television.

One more thing: hot damn but Herzog was awesome as a menacing Imperial.

Yoda baby was so cute. Only the third in-canon member of his species that we've seen so far I think.

Watched it on my lunch break. Very happy with what I saw. Good pacing, amazing music, solid acting, and that ending...oooo that ending. I love what it means for the context of this show.

    Never heard of him.

There was some "Trek-ness" but I think that is the difference between being movies where there isn't much dialogue and having to have actual dialogue in scenes to fill time. In a movie version of this that'd all be cut to bare minimum or more likely cut most of it out.

It was interesting that it was probably 10-15 minutes shorter than you'd expect but as it's a specific 8 chapter "book" that doesn't matter so much. It could simply be what worked out structurally. That's the benefit of not having locked-in times anymore.

It could be 6 hours over eight episodes as opposed to 7.5 over eight episodes.

I hope that Favreau took the shocking route of asking Lucas about how Yoda's species works.

I mean he just might know something about this subject!

Actually I did if you look at some other post. about the humor being goofy and it not working. I've also made other post about how I don't think Dave filoni is the Second Coming but whatever fits your narrative

True, it's not a big issue as long as they're able to tell the story they want, and all indicators suggest this will unfold very deliberately. The pacing of the episode was quite brisk, especially considering it had lots of atmosphere-building and kind of repeated some scene structures with raised-stakes. Actually, the atmosphere-building was often more extended than even the Disney films, and very reminiscent of the OT.

I definitely took a deep breath when they pulled down the blanket. This is an area of Star Wars has been off limits for so long, I really hope they don't let us down. Based off the first episode's attention to detail I'm cautiously optimistic.

I suspect that Filoni could have easily added 5 or more minutes but decided to go with a far shorter, clipped style not unlike what he had to do in animation.

    Lucas' style certainly.

Filoni was working in things from all over I-VI. Imperial credits being no good (TPM's Republic credits being no good), Riding and falling off weirdo creatures (AOTC with Anakin) and so on.

I think he was fine but the fee he is getting here will help finance the former (which is why he took the gig).

I agree in part as in I-VI but also certainly there were other influences as well.

The blacksmith female Mandalorian wears a Owls type helm but it has spikes on it reminiscent of Maul's warriors. Whether she's a Death Watch loyalist or if the helmet is just another Filoni aesthetic is unknown right now. The first episode wasnt bad at all.

The baby of the same species as Yoda did look like Gizmo from GREMLINS. But it was a plesant surprise.
