I, too, have little tolerance for when the first of several consecutive things sets up the things that come after.

And the pointless action scenes would be the equivalent of the kid choosing a large font size, in this metaphor.

    I
I think it's just that so many years went by that were not used to the show and it's pacing it may be what seemed like clunky writing story is just because this was the set up for a bigger story and it will all be explained in future episodes! It also had a cliff hanger of sorts. I think In the end Mando was just gathering his friends for the ultimate quest.

I'm pretty sure she also said "My forces melted away." So I definitely felt that they abandoned her. And not that she just refuses to lead them.

Or because of andor we finally saw what a competent writer could do with the Star Wars Universe... just saying. the writing for the Mandalorian is not terrible, but it is painfully cartoonish sometimes and I think Indulgence the worst aspects of dave filloni's sensibilities, A LOT. Whether he is writing every episode or not, his fingerprints are all over this part of the universe, which is what a lot of people have wanted for years. We'll have to see how this season shakes out but as of now I'm not one of them.

Oh he definitely has moments of brilliance but it's surrounded by a lot and I do mean a lot of mediocrity throughout all of his shows.

Bingo! Though I really liked the first two seasons of The Mandalorian I can only describe those seasons as "fun" or "really fun" but not high caliber writing. Andor on the other hand was top notch prestige TV! I was worried that Andor might've spoiled me and I'm tempted to say it has.

That said, I'd argue that this episode was waaaay below the quality almost anything we saw on Mando Season 1 and 2 and feels much more on the same level as the laughably bad TBOBF and the mediocre Obi-Wan show. It really feels like the writers didn't push themselves because they're banking on nostalgia and Grogu's cuteness to win everybody over.

I loved it and I just want to say that again because a lot of posts in here are turning negative as they inherently do when people get nitpicky on things they don’t like mainly due to personal preference and ideas of where they thought would go personally.

It was an excellent episode to me and I enjoyed it far more than last season’s opening episode but I also enjoyed that one too.

This episode clearly had a lot of set up and things open to interpretation but a series is a series for a reason. Give it time, and for all its praise and glory and rightly so as it turned out excellent, Andor’s first two episodes in isolation were absolute snoozers. It wasn’t until subsequent episodes the pay off started to happen.

This episode was far more interesting than Andor’s opener.

Filoni isn’t that involved with BB at least not as much as Mando

Bit of a scene setter. Mandalorians are too protective though, just throw the annoying kid to the crocoturtle and run into the cave.

Eh, I thought it was kind of slow for a season premier. The reunion of Din and Grogu also felt kind of glossed over. I can't help but feel the final two episodes of TBOBF would have been a more exciting way to begin the season. They were essentially Mandolorian episodes anyway.

I hope the story picks up in the next episode.

I've been enjoying TBB well enough so far, but had to chime in for this. My jaw actually dropped seeing live-action purgill, even in silhouette. That was a beautiful moment.

And everything else was still great. I've likened films and TV episodes to either a ride or a tour. This episode was both, mostly illustrated by Din going from instrument breakdown to hostile situation. I really enjoyed that framing for the action, and that Din just resumed the father/tour-guide mode right afterward.

It's really Din preparing for a journey, but still felt like a journey in itself. And I don't think it put in too much, or accomplished too little. Everything Din was doing is part of his larger goal, and I never felt like he was just mechanically covering the bases. I liked the ebb and flow of the scenes with the Children of the Watch, Greef, and the aforementioned space travel. I'm glad that the resolution for Cara was (to me) the most intuitive one.

I get that the ending scene seems strange in sequence, but Din may have been planning to speak to Bo-Katan anyway (before the IG-11 complications, that is). Beyond that, I think there's a nice contrast in the bookends -- from a new Child of the Watch to a former member of Death Watch who's now lost her motivation.

Most likely giving this one an 8.

I just watched a Mando intimation ceremony and a fight with a alligator turtle and now Grogu is watching Purgill fly past the window. The episode could end now and I’d be satisfied. Haters saying the series needs to get along faster can’t find joy in the universe

I'll give it an 8. Some new lore was given and some older lore mentioned. For me that is a success. Lost some points due to the short run time. But alas, I can deal with it.

Gave it a 7. Solid episode, setting up the season, but nothing great or special.

Really loved all of the pirates. Especially the warthogs are the helm. Also really great to see some large battle ships that aren't Imperial destroyers, or the ones the Rebels used

A 5 for me. I felt like punishing the lack of vision and creativity. It seems to me that they showed everything they needed to show in a rather flat way, as if they weren't really feeling the joy of storytelling and filmmaking.

People were saying the same for BOBF: "give it time"....
That's not how it is supposed to work.
When an episode is setting up things to come, they're supposed to do it in a compelling way. We are not supposed to be bored/unimpressed during the set up just as a sort of price to pay in order to be later rewarded with a satisfactory payoff.
Even filler episodes can be made cool and exciting.
Who knows, maybe ep 2 will be amazing, but this one was a bit of a stinker.

This episode felt like the Mandalorian to me.

When I watched the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett - It did not feel like the Mandalorian.

I don’t know what went on behind the scenes that we got TBOBF last year instead of Mando Season 3. A series that had two episodes of The Mandalorian in its seven episode run.

Maybe Boba Fett was a punt when the original plans for season 3 were disrupted. Maybe today’s episode - which was like a check-in on all the characters and plot lines - was necessary to setup and reframe the story for the rest of the season after we had two Mando episodes in Boba Fett.

Now the story is reestablished and can move forward as it did in the past.
