Even if you don't finish Rebels, I would highly recommend finishing season 2, its finale is one of the best Star Wars stories of all time imo, and I say that as someone who usually judges Disney era pretty harshly. But you'll need to have finished TCW to really appreciate it.

The badass with a baby trope is
    https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BadassAndChildDuo

a natural trope for them to have opted for with this lone bounty hunter but what I absolutely love is that they made it a proper infant (50 years old but still) and made it this species with the force.

It makes it closer to Logan having to look after ET or baby Groot instead of X-24. Often in this trope they make the younger kid a tween or teen and it’s usually been human.

Finally live action Star Wars!! Great first two episodes, showing that great space western we've been waiting for. I didn't care for the cameos in Rogue One as much because of the faster pace, but here it totally works. Love Garindan, OT aliens instead of the Scanlan small, weird ones we see in the ST, and the Jawas! Who doesn't love seeing a Jawa run for his life after he steals something. To have a Boba Fett and IG-88 sighting would be awesome. As for the Episode 1 ending, very unexpected (except I read a spoiler on here just before watching ). Look forward to seeing where the show takes us.

Saw the first two episodes. It reminds me of Better Call Saul in that it is beautifully done but not much happens plot-wise per episode. Basically its just bounty hunter gets bounty. Bounty is force baby. I like it, don't get me wrong (I love Better Call Saul), but I feel like this was build for binging in a short period of time rather than weekly releases. It doesn't seem like a show where the episodes are self-contained pieces of entertainment with a satisfying conclusion. Right now it just feels like a tease.

Yes, but the choices he makes when “getting the bounty and trying to deliver the bounty” are focused on and given real character importance, rather than just being hand-waved away as he goes from NPC to NPC. I love that he’s not just hopping from A to B. It takes work. It reminds me a bit of the opening scene of Pulp Fiction. There we saw what we never see in films - the hitmen having a conversation before they arrive at their target. Here we are seeing what we never see in Star Wars. What the protagonist (bounty hunter, in this case) physically and morally goes through as he travels to his destination. In the films, you mostly just see the highlights. A series of destinations and set-pieces. Here, we’re seeing the in-between. And it makes for both a more human and realistic feel, while also being heavily dipped in the mythic imagery of Star Wars. Which is why, to me, it almost feels like little Biblical or Tao stories set in space.

I thought the first episode was good, although on the technical filmmaking side, there were a few things that stuck out to me. Mainly in the editing, I believe. The second episode, though, was truly phenomenal. It’s the little things that I liked the most. Like the little lizards at the beginning. Little things like that just bring the world to life. However, everything with the Jawas was exceptional. Seriously, they were the stars of this episode. The sequence with the Mandalorian trying to climb his way into the Sandcrawler was pretty jaw dropping, actually. When that scene played, I could just feel myself smiling like the giant nerd I am.

This is the new EU. Not the ST, because I feel that's slightly constrained because its part of the main saga, but everything else. It started with Rogue One, continued with Solo, and now it’s continuing in the form of The Mandalorian. The SW galaxy is expanding like never before. How a SW fan can feel disillusioned and left out in the cold right now, I'll never know. I guess that's an altogether different discussion. Just seeing species like Jawas, creatures we have known for decades, getting the spotlight is just a beautiful sight. I hope the Tusken Raiders are given similar treatment in the Obi-Wan series.

And Kuiil, without a shadow of a doubt, is the best thing this series has given us so far. A great character.

Remember months ago when a bunch of us became instinctually obsessed with Offworld Jawa based off nothing but an action figure...?

We could not begin to fathom the depths of Offworld Jawa supremacy.

Oh, I remember. I became so obsessed, in fact, that I changed by avatar to Offworld Jawa, and fabricated a quote for my signature about the terrible power of the Offworld Jawa. I now realize what a mistake it was to change my avatar again after that. I was ready to hop on the Offworld Jawa train when it arrived in season 2, and I missed it.

ETA: The Offworld Jawa are back. I won’t let them down again.

It was the first actual new SW content I`ve tried out since TLJ and I gotta say I enjoyed it. I`ll integrate it into my personal canon after ROTJ. It is rather slow-paced and nothing grandesque happens with the plot but the simplicity of the character interactions work quite well. Especially in episode 2.

They`ve done a good job fleshing out a main character whose face you never see. And he is a man of few words, too, so even the performer can only do so much (and I really like what he does) but it works well through story and his interactions with other characters. The worldbuilding with the seedy underbelly of the galaxy is pretty good.

Baby Yoda is ridiculously cute and I do like that they have force-content in it.

I also enjoy the musical score.

same for me and it was a big surprise.
yes, Baby Yoda is just too cute and wonderful that they did include force elements. This was also a surprise for me since I expected them to avoid any force elements.

I am ashamed to admit that as a Star Wars fan since 1977, I thought Jawas were only on Tattooine. I suppose it makes sense that there’s be Jawas elsewhere in the galaxy, just as there are humans on many different planets..
Still, it was a surprise, but done perfectly.

I would like to see him visit some locations that we’ve seen in the movies, like MOs Eisley or even Bespin.

I love baby Yoda and his daddy so much that I will pout... a lot... if he ends up sliced up by Kylo at Luke’s school in the canon.

Ha! Just when we don’t need any more reasons to dislike Kylo, it’s revealed that he’s responsible for the murder of the cutest being in the galaxy.

I want to believe that this will not happen. There’s a happy little planet in the unknown regions where Jacen, Ahsoka, Ezra, and baby Yoda are waiting to return to the normal galaxy far far away after those damn Skywalkers die off :p

Little Yoduski should not be much older by the events of the ST, since his growth is gradual for all we know, and shouldn't take immediate jumps for no reason. So he might be an older kid, but he'll still be a kid. Having said that, I am very very afraid that we might witness his ending by the end of The Mandalorian, whether it's this or the next season.

It would be a powerful dramatic moment, if done right, and it would also make sense in the narrative. Just like how other deaths of beloved characters made sense, and gave us some of the best moments in TV animated shows.

Eh Baby Yoda is an alien race in a fictional universe. We don't know how aging/growth works when it comes to Baby Yoda. It works however the writers want it to work. They could throw in a line that says, "when Baby Yoda's people reach a certain age they have a massive growth spurt" and that would explain how Baby Yoda could be an adult in the ST timeline.

The Sandcrawler chase in Chapter 2, really, really invoked memories of 2 issues of the classic Marvel Star Wars comic for me: issue 32 "The Jawa Express" and issue 81 "Jawas of Doom" (with some Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade sprinkled in. Since Filoni is the same age as I am (45) I am going to assume he also read the Marvel Star Wars comic and it was an influence

Did anyone else feel the same?

And Favreau wrote both. Would be interesting to see what the inspirations for that were. Probably a bunch of things, ranging from train heist scenes to the Indiana Jones tank scene to the SNES game where you had to scale a moving sandcrawler without falling, and it was hard as hell.
