S3 of Mando holds the record for the season of TV that most dramatically changed my interest in a show. I really couldn’t wait for new Mando stuff before, and now it’s my least anticipated of the Star Wars projects.

It was so disappointing. To go from the best Star Wars ever in the season 2 finale to...that, what a disappointment.

And also two excellent episodes of the Mandalorian in TBOBF. I thought the quality was on an incline. And then the decline was dizzying it was so precipitous. It was almost like Favreau said “forget what we were doing - let’s do things more like Rodriguez did.”

It seemed like it was just Jon Faveru Alone for season three and like GL didnt have people to get him away from his script wrtiting.

I really truly think they should have ended it with 3 and carried on any needed plot with Skeleton crew and Ahsoka

Exactly! Oh yep, we better throw in another monster because we haven’t had one for five minutes. Oh and everybody loved those eps of The Mandalorian sandwiched into the other show…people must have liked that idea, because they were swooning over Boba Fett and not because it was a much better show coming in, so let’s sandwich a non-Mando ep into The Mandalorian…people will love it.

Way to read the room, John.

So it's more than a bit ironic that they've decided now is the time for a Mando movie. When even many dedicated fans are the least excited for it.

I wonder if one reason for making it a movie is to try to pump excitement up for the show again.

I'm more than open for the Mando to return to its great storytelling, but it needs to refocus on the characters again. The movie could be a chance for that, but I'm unsure they will take it. Instead it's also an opportunity just to focus on its cool visual and action elements.

That would be a horrible way to end it, though.

Season 2 had an ending you could exit on, or at least was an enough of an endpoint if they really didn’t want to do anything *for Din* with the Darksaber. Him taking off the helmet then could even play as him realizing he didn’t need it anymore. It was the TBOBF episodes that seemed to promise and set up a season premise that they then surprisingly seemed to try and abandon and even deny had been set up in the first place - I still say that TBOBF and previous TM episodes showed it was the Children of the Watch who honored the Darksaber tradition, not Bo’s people as TM Season 3 said, showing they were trying to sort of sweep away the Darksaber story they themselves set up.

And Season 3 wound up being more lackluster Bo Katan story - which is part of the reason it would be a bad ending for Din, since it wasn’t really about him. And even the way Season 4/the potential film are “set-up” doesn’t seem particularly Din-focused - it mostly just sounds like a premise for interchangeable Imperial Warlord episodes meant to be episodic rather than serialized.
    Here’s how I see it:

    - If you just want action spectacle, and aren’t interested in a character arc, than the TV show would handle that at a better “value” than a movie, as Season 3 sort of shows.

    - There’s not really any established villain to be the main attraction worth a film; even a cheesy “Gideon’s clone lives!” story would be more awkward than marketable.

    - Pedro Pascal just acting without a helmet in a still-interchangeable story would be sort of a waste as well, and possibly reason for him to be disinterested anyways.

So if you wanted to do a movie, you’d almost have to do so because you’d have a big Din-focused story to tell.

Yeah, and the Bo Katan story was just so thinly and blandly told. You can’t conclude the Mandalorian TV show on such a damp note.

With how the conversation was playing out in the Leakosphere prior to the Strikes, Mando 4 being described as integral for Filoni’s Thrawn film, I wouldn’t be surprised if Big Blue is the front and center antagonist here.

Off the top of my head, I cannot think of a show that nose dived like that! Season 3 was dreadful.

The sad thing is I knew it was going that way. The minute Filoni started shoehorning his pets in there, it was all down hill...

Not necessarily. The streaming profits are obviously not worth it because they're redirecting their attention to movies. They can make much more on a SW movie than they can a SW TV show, assuming it's not another Solo.

I believe the big villain will be Thrawn, no?

He's more likely to be interested in doing a movie where he can show his face. Everyone knows he's not a huge fan of the mask.

Yes, this seems to be the case, and this is why I'm staying openminded for now about a Mando S4 film. Maybe this is how LFL enticed him to return to set?

Wait, the show nose dived in season 3, due to Filoni shoehorning his pets into it, despite the fact that season 3 was the Mandalorian season with the least involvement of Filoni, and where the only Filoni character to show up was Bo-Katan?

Season 3 of Mandalorian was all Jon Faveru. And worked with Katee as Bo Katan when he was Pre Viszla.

Wait. Apparently he meant to say that the Mandalorian will still be a show-stopper, given that it’s going to be a movie.

Covering all their bases so they can be right. Throw enough stuff on the wall and some will stick.

Apparently the next Mandalorian entry will be told entirely through a knitted tapestry, and they'll be filming the making of it. So says Shmespin Shmulletin, in any event.

As a nod to fan dissatisfaction and the inability to get the title actor to do his actual job, the entire thing will be filmed with every single character’s back to the camera. No faces will be seen but back of heads will be!
