This one may seem a bit odd. When Luke was in the bacta tank in ESB, I used to think he was wearing a diaper.

I also used to think that Needa and Piett were the same person and when Vader choked Needa, I always thought that Vader didn't kill him, because Piett would be on screen later. Took 'till I was about 7 to realize they were different people.

I think i remember thinking these same things. I STILL say that Luke looks like he has a diaper on!

^I actually remember people at some screenings I went to laughing at that scene.

For a long time I thought Vader and Fett were good buddies because Fett worked for Vader.

who says it isn't one? If you're in that tank for a long time... stuff has to go somewhere...

When I saw ROTJ for the first time, I thought Luke was a priest because he was wearing black. I even turned to my mother and said, "Mom, when did he become a priest?" Then I was confused for a little while, wondering how Luke could be Catholic if he wasn't from Earth. (I was nine, so I was kinda dumb :p).

I thought Star Wars was dumb and boring. Luckily, I was proven wrong when I decided to watch it for no reason ^_^

When I first saw ESB, I wondered why they didn't just send the Falcon to attack the At-At's?

Took a long time to sink in that SW is actually set in the past, not the future. I know the words at the start, but didn't realise what it meant for quite a while.

    Figured I'd post this up:

When Yoda dies, his last words are "Luke..there..is...Another...Sky-wal-ker."

    I heard:

    "Luke..there...is..another..sky.."

I thought he was seeing heaven and was trying to tell Luke about it.

*raises hand* Me too. It wasn't until the video came out that I heard the "Walker" part. I never thought Yoda saw heaven or anything though. I just thought his clock wound down too soon for him to finish the statement.

When I was very young (3 years old) I thought the OT was just one long movie :p
The first time I saw SW was at a marathon screening in '83 when they released ROTJ. Our local theater screened all three films (leading me to think there was only one).

Also when I was very small, I didn't yet know the meaning of the word "empire." I thought it was a misspelling of "umpire." I can see it now... "Stop that runner... blast 'im!"

In ROTJ, while Han is still blind... Chewie is telling him that Boba Fett is behind him and he says "Boba Fett? Boba Fett? Where?!" ...and then hits Fett's rocket pack. I thought he said "motor bike? motor bike? where?!" =P~

When Veers talks to Vader during the Battle of Hoth he says to Vader "you may start your landing." I thought he said "you may start your nothing." [face_thinking]

I'm sure I had some more, but these are the ones I had the most fun with :D

I remember the first time I heard Threepio refer to Artoo I thought he called him Otto. I guess it was because of Anthony Daniel's accent or something. I probably ate paint chips when I was young. [face_hypnotized]

I thought that Darth Vader was Star Vader and Luke skywalker as Blue Skywalker.

I completely missed that line too. I guess I was too young and didn't hear it well enough. I then asked myself the question: How, when Luke is flying away from Dagobah during ESB does he hear Yoda tell Obi-Wan, "There is another."

I thought lightsabers were called lifesavers, adn the candy lifesavers were named after them. I also thought hte bacta tank thing was a mechanical diaper.

    Still a valid point!

And also: why doesn't the Empire use flying vehicles in this battle???

    Things you don't think/care about when you're 8....

I watched the movies for the first time at 4 or 5 with my parents and as I was a curious child they had to answer to a lot of questions. like why they lowered Han on a table with a lot of little lights in ESB.

as much as I can remember I thought:

    - thats stormtrooper where robots and that Luke an Han had remooved the covering to disguise themself in a new hope.

    - that Vader had been put in the suit ( that we tend to call an armor in french) and had had the mechanical part done to him on purpose as a twisted and dark sidish way to improve him. Mostly due to Obi-Wan's line ( he is more machine than man now)

    - I thought that Jedi aprentice had blue lightsaber and jedi knight a green one. because in ROTJ Luke trade his blue saber for a green one. ( It didn't help that in TPM Obi-Wan has a blue one and Qui-Gon a green) it was only after watching AOTC that it dawned on me that they could have whatever color they wanted.

    oh before I forget

for those who aren't native english speaker like me.
Did the name of some of the characters change with the translation to your language ?
    in french :
    - han was Ian
    - 3PO was 6PO ( sounds better)
    - Darth Vader as Dark Vador ( not sure about that on , might just have been a misprononciation, darth is pretty hard to say)

if you noticed things like that you reply ? I'm curious.

When I first saw Star Wars, I thought the Stormtroopers were robots.

I thought Threepio and Artoo were related.

I thought Han lived on the planet Chewie was from because they were friends.

When Obi Wan did his roar on Tatooine to scare the Sandpeople, I thought the Sandpeople were just scared of Ben coming out of nowhere.

I thought there were a whole bunch of Imperial Dark Lords of the Sith, all of whom wore black armor, and that the Emperor was NOT one of them. I also thought lightsabers could be set for stun, for some reason.

(I also thought hyperdrive always took a ship anywhere to anywhere in twenty minutes, but I still think that was the original intention, retconned away by the EU.)

It sure seems that way based on ANH. Dantooine is too remote to make an effective demonstration. But Alderaan is not. We're not told in the films that Alderaan is a Core world, but at least we can infer: Dantooine "remote"; Alderaan "not remote". And the scout ships go between the two pretty quickly.
Also from Captain Needa's comment in ESB.
