    Hello, (new here).

I didn't read all 78 pages of this but some of these are hysterical-- great thread.

I had some misconceptions, but most were from misheard lines. I also thought Yoda said "Always emotion is the future", for example. I also thought Leia said "I just assumed there was a wookie" instead of she'd just as soon kiss a wookie. Since that doesn't really make any sense, I didn't get the line.

Until I was about 12 I always just thought that Sand People really did kill Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru.
Speaking of which, I thought her name was 'Proo' instead of Beru.

Also, when I was a kid, I was sure that Star Wars was just a movie based on previously written novels by some author. Seeing paperbacks of the novelizations helped perpetuate this. I thought Lucas directed them all, and that he only created the story for Indy, not for Star Wars too.

Also, when Ben first shows up and chases away the Sand people, and Luke is lying on the floor, I always thought that he takes his temperature. It's just the way he touches his forehead and then looks like he is looking at his fingers (him wearing the hood helped the misconception too).

I also never had a CLUE why Luke (it's Luke, right, not Han?) knocks on his helmet after he is being asked why he isn't at his post. I completely didn't know what that meant. Even when the dude SAYS that a stormtrooper's transmitter is faulty, I still didn't make any connection.. Oh well.

I certainly had my share of misconceptions.

    1. I (like many others) didn't realise that Luke and Ben had different lightsabers, and I always thought it was a mistake that Luke had it again.

    2. I think I called them lifesavers when I was little.

    3. Due to the color of his armor, and not being able to make the "th" noise, I always thought he was Dark Vader.

    4. At the end of ESB when Luke and Leia are looking out the window at the galaxy, one of the stars is very bright. I always thought that was Boba on his ship.

    5. In Jabba's palace, for some reason which I will never understand, I always thought that little worm guy (the name escapes me) who hangs around with Jabba was inside of Jabba. I honestly can't even begin to figure out why I thought that.

    6. I guess I never noticed Luke putting on the glove while flying to Dagobah, so I just thought his robot hand was regular colored like in ESB and the begining of ROTJ. The first time I noticed the black was after he cut Vader's hand off. I always thought that he had taken off the glove from Vader's hand and put it on.

Also, someone mentioned really early in the thread that he though Jabba took Oola's shirt off. That's probably because there is acctually a costume malfunction in ROTJ, and one of her breasts comes out of her shirt. I'm seriously not kiddding, go watch it if you don't believe me.

I also just remembered that I also thought that Luke threw his lightsaber inside of the at-at in ESB, and woundered why he did it, and how he made a new one so quickly. Another one I had is from TPM, near the begining. There is a scene with a hologram of Nute Gunray and some other nemoidian talking to a droid piloting a tank. The holograms are small, but for soem reason as a kid I thought that the holograms were life sized, and that the droid was enormous.

It was battlefront II, I think. Also could have been in Battlefront.

Wow, this thread has reminded me of a lot of things. Hence posting four times in a row as I read through it. I just remembered a few more things.

After playing the Shadows of the Empire game and then watching Empire Strikes Back, I always thought that Echo base's sheild generator was the entire Echo base, and I always woundered how Han and Leia and everyone survived after it is shown exploding.

In ANH when Ben and Luke lift up C-3po, there is a transition coming from the bottom up, and I guess I was only half paying attention, because for a while I thought that C-3PO had been cut inhalf by the Tuskens.

The other things all had to do with my friends and starwars. Once, I asked a friend what the silver droid shown at the begining of ANH was named. He answered with something I msheard, and thought he said "C-3P radio" I recalling knowing that it wasn't his name, but all of my friends and I refered to him as C-3P radio.

Also, a few of mky friends were convinced that "Star Luke Skywalker" was a legitimate way to refer to Obi-wan. I still ahven't understood what they were thinking. I tried to cinvince them that it just wasn't the case, but they wouldn't listen to me, and so for the sake of simplicity, I went along with it, and called him Star Luke Skywaler on occasion. I'm not sure if it was "Star Luke Skywalker", or Starluke skywalker", or "Star-Luke Skywalker", but I think it was one of the thing. the most I can think of is that maybe one of them bought an Obi-wan toy which was mislabeled as "Luke Skywalker", but the "star" still escapes me. Also, it was a while ago, and I only think it was Star. It was definitly some extra word at the begining or an alteration to the end, but it was there and weird.

Okay, for a while now, some kind of misconception dealing with a misproportion has been bothering me, and I just realised what it was. In ESB, when the falcon lands, a door opens and Lando walks out, but on a distance scale so that o

When Luke calls 'Uncle Owen' after calling out his Aunt and Uncle's names when he returns, I thought he actually said 'Glowen,' like maybe there was a robot or a droid nearby.

Or when Luke during the prison skirmish says 'He'll tear us all apart,' I thought he had panicked and just 'squeaked' in fear.

Though by the age of 5 or 6, I could quote almost the entire film. Made for a humorous restroom moment one time. Humorous for the other people in the restroom, embarassing for me.

The biggest misconception I remember growing up was thinking Luke's light saber blade was yellow. Back then, being only 5 years old, my parents only let me go see ANH in the theater once, and it was years before we got our first vcr or the trilogy on home video, so my only frame of refrence was the yellow lightsaber on my action figure.

I also, for years, thought Yoda was saying "always EMOTION the future is."

Then there was always the debate on the playground on whether the stormtroopers and Darth Vader were robots.

I also had a friend who told me he always just thought Yoda was an old human, and that's just what happens to humans when you use the force to live to 900 years old.

My own personal ones that I remember:

I thought when the snow fell on R2's head in Empire that a wampa was breaking in through the walls.

I thought that Cloud City was on Earth, just up in the sky somewhere.

I thought that when Jabba dropped Oola through the hole in the floor, that it dropped her into a machine that shrank her and moved her into the jar by his side, and that it was a shrunken Oola that he ate.

Somehow I didn't remember the closer-up shot of Owen's and Beru's corpses. Years later, rewatching it, I was like "where did those come from?" I wonder if my dad covered my eyes. Hmmm....

When I first watched the trilogy when I was 7 or so I had quite a few misconceptions. I think one of the funniest ones was in regards to ROTJ. Before watching the movie I thought it was called "Return of the 'Jet-Eye'". I figured it was a a movie like Top Gun and was never interested in watching it... Whew...Glad I was wrong :D. I also thought Vader's name was Dark Vader and lightsabers were lifesavers.

    The "Uranium" Falcon? [face_laugh]

-Yes, lightsabers were lightsavers, as if they were somewhat like flashlights to conserve energy or something.

-I never exactly figured out how to say "Millenium" so for the longest time it was just, "Han's ship, the Falcon."

-I never quite figured out why the sabers kept changing colors, either. I knew that Vader (the dark side) had one. So my little kiddie brain figured that the good side could only have one lightsaber, too. You know, to keep things fair.;)

-Leia's line, "The senate will not sit still for this," was "The senate will not distill for this."

-And lastly, Ackbar's like in RotJ, when he says, "All craft, pull up!" I though it was, "Ah, crap! Pull up!" eh, close enough, right? :D

    Excuses:
The first time I watched the movie I was like 8 or 9.
i watched the movie on tv.
They showed the movies in english with the subtitle in spanish.
I was not very fast at reading at the time.
I played the computer games with my brothers, so i had very weird half-ideas(my brothers only train me to be a good RPG player they did't care about how much i understood english)

    Misconceptions:
Luke was evil but he redeems himself by saving Leia from Jabba(he used to much black)
The ligthsabers changed colors with your affinity(the more evil the redder our saber)
    The troopers were robots.
Padme died when Leia was little.
Han was related to Indiana Jones. Something like a grandson.
    Ben was Luke's grandfather.
DUNE was a part of Star wars.
"Dark" Vader was a good man that was slaved by the Empire and the suit was like his prison.

This is a great thread. My favorite moments are the person thinking Darth Vader was Uncle Fester after the unmasking scene and the person thinking Mon Mothma was a giant moth leading the New Republic while reading HTTE not realizing who she was in the movies. A close third was the person who thought Princess Leia's ship was the star destroyer (since the good guys should have the larger ship) and captured Vader's ship, the Tantive IV. Then thinking man that guy is skilled to take over the larger ship.

As for my list, a lot of these have been said recently or are similar, but here goes:

The versions I grew up with were recorded off TV. I'm not sure if it was the editing but I always thought that the fat human dancer (Yarna d'al' Gargan) was actually a tiny person dancing around in Jabba's bowl and that he ate her because he didn't like her dancing. (Similar to the Oola misconception many seem to have)

I thought Salacious Crumb was attached to Jabba's body.

I also thought that the shield generator was Echo base, it wasn't until a few years ago when I finally realized otherwise.

For some reason growing up I thought the spherical shield generator on the super star destroyer in RotJ was a smaller Death Star that they destroyed by concentrating their fire. Similarly, I also never got that the Executor was crashing into "bigger" Death Star.

I never caught that Luke says "that's what you said when Biggs and Tank left" until three days ago. (I hadn't watched ANH since learning about the character in the comics over a year ago, shame on me)

Like many people, thought it was "Always emotion the future is" instead of "always in motion the future is".

Thought it was the Noad system instead of Anoat system (discovered 15 minutes ago)

    Guilty.

Since I was only four-years-old when I first saw ANH, when Vader force-choked Admiral Motti onboard the first Death Star, I thought Vader actually made him throw-up an egg.

That's because Motti collapsed over a light on the table that was round and looked yellow/orangish (like an egg yolk). When I was older and watched ANH again and realized that Vader was only choking him, I remember thinking: "Oh, that's not nearly as bad as being forced to throw-up and egg."

I remember watching RotJ and my older cousin called Oola a slut. I was 7, so I thought since slut sounded like Hutt, I thought twi'leks are what a female hutt looks like.

Then, seeing TPM in the theater two years, when Sebulba is getting massaged by Ann and Tann Gella (The twin Rutian Twi'leks, I love wookieepeddia), I turn to my mother and say, "I didn't know there were blue sluts."

She knew me, so she knew I didn't really know what it meant, so she just started laughing. I was really confused.

There's a lot of dialogue that I misheard when I was a kid, I guess like how a lot of people misinterpret song lyrics.

One was when C-3PO says "our last master was Captain Antilles." When I was younger I thought he said "kept in Antilles", so I was wondering about Antilles being both a person (Wedge) and a location.

Another was when Obi-Wan said "Jundland wastes are not to be traveled lightly". At first I thought he said "gentleman's waists are not to be traveled lightly", and I had no idea what that was supposed to mean.

There are others, but I really can't recall right now.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I watched the films in a random order (not watching any as a whole for a while, and watching bits of ROTJ and ESB before any of ANH). I knew Luke had metal bits on his hand later on, and I thought in ANH in the twin suns scene that when Luke looked down he was looking at them.

That's all I can remember. This thread is great!
