Oh really? And what sugar coated, flower smelling, soft world do you live in??

Have you evere played sport at the TOP level?? When you are in the heat of battle there is no way someone is gonna go and taddle to the jolly old referee and cry "please sir he is calling me names"

I mean come on the guy has made a vicious verbal assalut on the mans heritage for ***** sake he's not gonna sit there and take it.

You can say what you like but given the same situation i dare you to say you would not have reacted similarly

I'm a mut too but like him I'm still white. I'm sure the dialogue up there is more accurate.

Many other players have played at the top level without headbutting an opponent. So I would have to say that it is possible for someone being given verbal abuse (and possibly minor physical abuse) to stay on the pitch until the match has concluded.

Absolutely, 100% guaranteed Zidane has received similar verbal assaults throughout his career. And yet, until yesterday he had not responded by assaulting his opponent.

They are just words. Words exchanged between two people alone on a football pitch.

It should be something ignored, not reacted to.

Besides, what sort of lunatic world do you live in where it's the correct course of action to assault someone because they insulted you? As I said, an eye for an eye is utter madness.

I was under the impression that one of his parents is black. I used to work with a girl who had one black parent and one white parent but you never would have known it since she looked 100% white.

Being that they were playing at the TOP level is exactly why he should of been able to keep his cool and not head butt the guy.

Anyone who plays sports knows part of the game is the head game...I am not making excuses for whatever was said, but Zidane should have known this was part of the game and been the bigger man and kept his cool and help win the game.

Well if you didn't know, Zidanes parents are from Algeria, does that clear up the dialogue for you??

That is a very simplistic appraisal of the situation. The fact is that they are soooooo much more than words.

Most of racism is just words, words exchanged between people (or whatever spew you were spouting) so does that make it ok does it??

No, it does not make it okay. I am not condoning Materazzi... but to suggest the correct course of action is to assault your opponent is completely insane.

Stimulation is something that has no part in the game. FIFA really need to stamp it out.

i remember fifa coming out on the front foot and saying this would not be tolerated during the world cup. and that was in 2002!

its a blight on the game [face_plain]

and i know this is bias (AGAIN lol) but my fav moment of the world cup had to be standing with 15,000 aussies at the north end of the fritz-walter stadium in k-town, during our first world cup match in 32 years, watching timmy cahill smash in our second goal in world cup history to sink the japanese after we trailed the whole match...

that experience is something i will remember for the rest of my life

Yes. And still most people who post in this thread, and well, the majority of the world thinks regular football is better than American football. Give it a rest already.

I actually don't care that much for the NFL, I'm a baseball/basketball guy. The rest of the world can have futbol, we'll be just fine with our sports here in the States.

It's sad for people to express their own opinions?

That's fine. But then don't post in this thread telling us how much you dislike football. You and a lot of other Americans don't like football. Believe me, we get it by now. It's real easy to ignore this thread if it doesn't interest you. And.. the rest of the world is absolutely fine with the fact that America likes other sports better. Your loss. ;)

Zidane is no sweetheart, throughout his career he's done his fair share of dirty tricks..whenever he used to get frustrated by a defender he'd kick various body parts..

Verbal and physical abuse(nowadays it's more verbal than physical) is something great playmakers like Zidane have to suffer throughout their career and they're bound to react somehow. In this case though I think Zizou should have put up with it for 10 more minutes...

I was going for Italy in the final but I have to say this whole ordeal has left a bitter aftertaste for me..

I respect Zidane more than anyone in the game at the moment and I would have liked a different end to his career(a standing ovation for him at the end of the final whatever the outsome of the match.

In conclusion I don't think this will hurt his fame in any way, in fact I think it'l ladd to his legend.
