    Well...

Jax, his Jedi Paladin friend Laranth, Den Dhur, I-5 and Nick set off to find the droid. Nick is captured by Darth Vader and forced to help him capture Jax (or else I kill your peoples!). Kaird, who just wants to go home to his planet, is given the task to eliminate Xizor by Underlord Perhi in return for free passage home. Xizor is, you guessed it, looking for the droid. (who goes by the name of Bug-Eyes)

Everyone eventually ends up in the Factory District, the most dangerous place on Coruscant, where feral, bloodthirsty droids rule. Xizor, who has managed to capture Kaird (who seems rather incompetent as an assassin), reveals to him his master plan: to replace the Underlord with a Human Replica Droid and then, I suppose, take over Black Sun.

Anyway... our heroes end up stunned and handcuffed because of Xizor but I-5 emits a piercing screech and they manage to free themselves. Nick throws himself at Xizor and is grievously injured in the process. Jax, who's having a bit of a Spider-man 2 problem with the Force, and Xizor duel it out. (with Xizor using Jax's lightsaber and Jax using a lightwhip). Add to this the fact that Darth Vader is arriving any minute and that there's a nuclear reactor waiting to blow and you've got yourself a tricky situation.

Xizor flees eventually and Bug-Eyes, the droid with the important information, is destroyed. Vader's shuttle arrives at the scene and Vader's cowardly aide, Rhinann, joins our heroes. The group, now consisting of Jax, Laranth, Nick, I-5, Den, Kaird and Rhinann escapes on their ship just before the entire Factory District blows up.

    Vader is not pleased.

Back on the ship, we learn that the droid was just a decoy, a fake, set up by Vader to lure Jax out. We never learn why. Sequel hook! The group prepares to jump to hyperspace and leave Coruscant behind forever, but Jax has a change of heart: he wants to stay and help people out. He is, after all, a Jedi. The rest of the group agrees, somewhat hesitantly.

The book ends with Jax, who has been somewhat dismissive and rude towards his droid companion, turning to I-5 and asking him to tell him about his father.

It really is quite a good book.

Attention UK posters: Amazon and Book Depository have copies, I recommend the latter over the former, as they're selling it for £5.27 as opposed to Amazon's £6.39.

It also has to be said: £7.99 RRP for a SW PB?

That's becoming more and more standard for a PB these days, sadly. I paid out £12.99 for a PB last week.

PBs are $7.99 in the US. Maybe they're just really uncreative in price conversion.

Borders.com also seems to have this in stock.

Any idea of the UK release date for this? I was under the impression we got things later (I waited nearly a month longer for Invincible) but I picked this up today in my local Waterstones. Not sure if it was supposed to be out yet but I had to get it. Also got Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter for background as well.

Well I found it today in my local Waterstones, yes the £7.99 is silly but I dont care as I've just been paid my monthly wage. Also got the Silmarillion. Just got to finish 3 Spike Milligan War Memoirs, the last 3 of Legacy of Force, before I read this book that I'm excited about...

I should stop reading so much fanfic....

Sadly its not an uncommon practice though I didn't realise it happened with books too. [face_plain]

I'm more used to it in terms of electronics where things like, say, an Xbox are often marketted for the same number in £ as $... because we all know £300 is the same as $300.

Oh, I know it's a lot more in pounds, but I'm just speculating that they don't bother actually converting to the equivalent when coming up with UK prices. :p

I'm going spoiler-free too, but because it's got a mystery element or whatever and it would be nice to go into a book unspoiled for once anyway, it doesn't have the tremendous burden of ongoing-series expectation and anticipation pushing me into reading spoilers, and dammit, I can.

My local chain shop had their copies out today, so I picked it up before seeing THE HULK. Haven't had a chance to get very far into it, but the cover is even more gorgeous in reality.

It really seems like a cracking piece of work.

So, is there any indication what exactly Jedi Paladin means? And are we going to get Jedi Rangers and Jedi Bards in the next couple books?
