Yeah, we tend to be, quite often, I've noticed... :p

I like Jim Broadbent, but I do agree that he was very much miscast as Slughorn. My ideal Slughorn would be Terry Jones. :D

Third time, actually. ;) He only loses it three times in the books - the first time it's in POA when he's facing Sirius, and that was very nicely handled in the film; the second time it's in OOTP when he catches Harry inside his worst memory - well, this was handled VERY differently from the book and felt too rushed (obviously, as we only saw flashes of that memory); and the third time is in HBP. It was very badly handled in the film, his "DON'T CALL ME A COWARD!!!" should've been kept there...

There was another time in POA when Snape really loses it. At the end of the book, after Harry and Hermione's time-travel adventure, Snape realizes that Sirius has escaped and he storms into the hospital wing and screams that Harry must have had something to do with it.

Actually, that's what I meant. :p I only realised it yesterday when I was rewatching POA. I thought, "Hang on, Snape doesn't lose it when he's facing Sirius, he loses it when Sirius escapes!"

And only yesterday I've noticed a very interesting little detail about the film - during the whole time when Harry and Hermione go back in time, there's a very faint clock-ticking noise in the background. :D Very nice subtle touch.

This is the trailer that will make people who dislike Harry Potter go "ZOMFG I must see this film!"

People who like Potter will be driven insane with excitement.

ETA: Hint: I am currently insane with excitement.

It's looking massively impressive, but I must say I'm shocked at just how much they're showing. A lot of "Part 2" stuff in there...

As someone who loves the books but cordially loathes the films, I have to say this did nothing to change my opinion.:p

The new trailer & commentary on it

My opinion: they should have ended it with the long shot of the crackle of spells under the tall trees.

I don't know *what* it is: Ralph Fiennes just doesn't work as Voldemort, for me, anyway.

Just saw the trailer and thought it looked great.
In other news, the first official teaser poster has been released:

Looks awesome and hopefully shows to some adults that these books aren't just for kids.

Eerily similar to this image from ROTS:

Seeing Hogwarts half-destroyed like that gives me goosebumps. That Battle of Hogwarts had better be epic.

I agree. That's a fantastic image. It really says something about the cultural penetration of Harry Potter when they don't bother to put the name of the film on the poster and just show a picture of Hogwarts burning.

    =D= :D

You're forgetting the scene in the hospital wing at the end of GOF, where Snape, McGonagall and Dumbledore have that incredible arguement with Fudge.

If it didn't say HP7 on there I wouldn't have known it was Hogwarts. :(

Really? Hogwarts has a pretty distinct outline.

Well I never saw HP6. I think I saw HP5, but I certainly haven't seen any of the films since that one came out, so I wouldn't have seen the Hogwarts skyline in at least 3 years.

I'm not sure I'd recognize it sans title.

Well, this has been posted elsewhere, but thought it was best to discuss it here: the Part I trailer is out.

Looks very good (it does show a heck of alot). What strikes me most, though, is the info it gives on where they'll split the two parts. Thinking back, most of us thought the split would be after the Silver Doer chapter, where the locket is destroyed and Ron Returns, since it would give a nice, relatively happy end, and it's about the middle of the book. Assuming the scenes in the new trailer are all from the first movie, though, the cut appears quite a bit later, after the Malfoy Manor scene, when the trio go to Shell Cottage and bury Dobby. The "cliff hanger", I guess, will be Harry plotting how to break into Gringotts.

More news that surprisingly hasn't been posted yet -- Part 1 will NOT be in 3D. The studio couldn't get it done at a high enough standard in time for the November release. IMO a good decision by the studio.

Hmmm. On the one hand, I'm disappointed, because I'm one of those people that unabashedly adores 3D, and have done since its early-80s heyday.

On the other hand, I respect the producers for pulling the 3D plug, so to speak, on Potter7, if they deemed the process to be sub-par. Converted 3D simply does not look as good/cool/convincing as in-camera-3D (although I was extremely impressed with Burton's Alice).

Perhaps they can continue to work on the conversion, and re-release Part 1 in 3D to select theaters prior to the premiere of Part 2.

So, having watched Deathly Hollows part 1 last night, but not having read the book- can anyone calrify one scene for me?

    A) Who was the snake lady in the graveyard supposed to be? Was it really her, or is it supposed to be impersonating that person?

    B) At the end of the fight when it jumps up at the kids one last time and, presumably, Heroimine (however you spell it), blasts it again- it's the snake/old lady that gets flung through the window, right? The way it was shot and eidted, I couldn't tell what happened there- but the audience was laughing at it, so it seems like I missed some kind "overkill" joke or something.

Bathilda Bagshot had already died; the snake was inhabiting her dead body. Not sure about 2.

I thought Harry and Hermione were flung from the building and Apparated as they were falling.
