"Pretty sure Gothmog gets trampelled by the Rohirrim, but its definitely implied and not shown."

Yep. Not sure why this is bugging people. You see him cringing in fear as the Rohirrim charge, and then he is enveloped in horses. It can be implied that he got trampled to death. Case-closed.

(though I kinda sorta would like to see exactly what happens to Slot--I mean Gothmog in the EE...but if they don't show it, I won't cry. ;) )

"After my second viewing, the scene where the Riders of Rohan show up is my favorite part of the trilogy."

I've seen the movie five times now...and this part...from the moment they show-up, to Theoden's speech, to the beginning of the charge, to the music, to the screaming and wildness in the eyes of Eomer, etc., to the collision, all of it...I just love it. It gets me totally pumped-up. I'm beginning to feel that it too is my favorite part of the trilogy. ;)

(the second charge in-which they take-on the Oliphaunts is just as incredible, IMO. ;) )

One of my favorite parts of TTT was when the elves showed up at Helm's Deep.

no problems yayo, glad to help bro.

and the ride of the rohirrim, well what can i say that hasnt been said? it was simply stunning.

his speech was pure tolkien, glad it was word for word from the book. theoden truelly showed his leadership qualities, and when the mumakil of the harad arrived, there was no way in hell the rohirrim would back down. great great stuff.

I have to say the best part of Pelennor Fields is when Eowyn uses two swords and starts taking down Mumuks while Merry steers the horse. Just the CG in those parts is so flawless I couldn't even tell any of it was CG even though I knew it was. I felt I was right on that battle field with them. IT WAS AWESOME!

yeah that was great too! the whole sequence was, because it showed that the rohirrim were not afraid to die and took on the enemy regardless. lets face it, 200 000 orcs attacking a city, they arrive as the city is burning, and with only 6000 of them. to then decide to attack, and most likely to their death, was inspirational stuff.

and they didnt just ride into the orcs, they trampled them with ease.

For me, the entire battle of Pelennor Fields was awesome. The charges were very well done and I just loved the way Theoden took the role of the leader in the battle. Even at the second charge he is the one that tells everyone to get back in line. And Theoden knocking the frontline spears? Absolutely fantastic.

great movie, except the ending...sure it had it's highlights...but, what happened to the turmoil of the shire?

**EDIT**: Possible book spoiler in black.

I saw it a couple of days ago, very good.

The ending did seem to drag on a bit.

Considering I have not read the last book I do not know about that thing that people say was missed (to do with the shire)...

Sam pulling Frodo up from over the lava reminds me of Frodo pulling Sam out of the water in FotR. I like it. :)

"LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Hobbits held sway at movie theaters around the world over the Christmas holiday weekend as the final installment in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy powered towards $500 million after less than two weeks.

According to studio estimates issued on Sunday, "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" has grossed $492.1 million from North America and 38 countries elsewhere.

The epic fantasy is outpacing both its predecessors and should reach $1 billion, said Rolf Mittweg, president of worldwide marketing and distribution at New Line Cinema. New Line is a unit of Time Warner Inc., as is CNN.com.

The new film's foreign haul of $268.4 million includes $48 million from Britain, $45 million from Germany and $30 million from France. The film opened on Friday in Australia, and has already pulled in $8.7 million.

"With the release of each film, the emotional resonance and dramatic impact have only increased," Mittweg said.

Despite its success, the film has a long way to go before unseating all-time champ "Titanic," which grossed about $1.8 billion worldwide. The first film in the "Rings" series, "The Fellowship of the Ring" earned $865 million worldwide.

In North America, "The Return of the King" combined with four new releases, led by the Steve Martin comedy "Cheaper by the Dozen," to drive ticket sales to a record high for the Christmas weekend."

I SUPPOSE I CAN POST IT HERE..SINCE IT WAS LOCKED [face_plain]

now listen up. this is not a hater thread ok? im just stating facts as a movie and filmaker...my criteria comes from much experience..so this deserves a thread on itself.

first of all. as many of you know I refused to go see this movie..but as I was standing at my local AMC in line to see peter pan(better than LOTR by the way).. I was pretty much pushed and forced in to see LOTR's, basically I had no choice..and it was free..

now I have to give it to peter jackson for trying very hard to get his oscar...he has all the right formula..to win one..

    [win oscar formula]includes.
    -drama (overly done)
    -crying.
    -classical music (good music)
    -death
    -fancy constumes
    -shakespearian talk
    -long movie.

drama always wins the oscar..if anyone uses that formula they have the "chance" to win an oscar..im not saying he will.

saying that..I was sitting there trying to give the film a chance..but that was until i noticed the entire film was blurry..much like the prior two..i dont know if peter jackson is blind..or what? but the movie is blurry as hell..it could be the rendering of the effects or the dirty lens..
the colors were inferior..very mediocre..much like the matrix the feel of the movie was black and white..colors such as white..looked grey..it was depressing..everything was grey..even the faces of the characters looked faded and grey..maybe its the color process they used on this film..but overall the colors were very poor..not rich and colorful.

The special effects..what can I say..they are without a doubt very low quality..the entire movie looks completely fake..the armies and the giants..look totally fake..no work put into them..their movements were all wrong..it was obivious they didnt have that many extras..most of the masses are imposed computer people just standing around..

then during the battle that lady stabs the guy in the head..the dark lord..and his mask breaks up and that looks totally wrong..very fake..when the ugly fake creature falls into the volcano..also looks very fake..it was hideous..

But then I noticed something..something very odd about this movie..
people were hating this movie..people were leaving the theater and feeling very uncomfortable..it was getting very long and boring..but then I realized what had made all this people think this was a good movie..
    and it was the "MUSIC"

the classical..music..hypnotized the audience..making them think this was a quality..film..much like plays and the theater is supposed to be the finest in the world. so then i realized what kind of people liked this movie..
and those were the people that liked shakespear and those broadway plays..all those people at the academy..who liked people in nice dresses and on horses..
so this was another formula peter jackson layed out..all out..and overdid..in the film..

if you put people in classical clothing..in horses and made them queens and kings..and then put in some great classical music..then you must have a hit..right?

yes. im some instances. if you fall all into the feminine feel about it..and mostly if YOU LIKE CHICK MOVIES!AND CRYING AND WHINNING..At some point..I just fell like screaming in the theater, when frodo and sam looked at eachother..I just wanted to scream and say " JUST KISS ALREADY" I COUNTED THE TIMES THE CHARACTERS ALL CRIED.. im telling you it was more than 20..I felt like picking up a tissues and distributing them around the room. I was also feeling very sick.

I dont wanna knock anyones fandomship out the door...but im coming from a point of view from a star wars fan..you have to understand that most people are being brainwashed and being told that this is a great movie and that THEY HAVE TO SEE IT!!
when in reality the movie is horrible..

so im leaving you with one other observation..and I would like to have an answer to this..
In the end of the film..3 eagles pick up the frodo and sam at the top of the volcano...
I would like to know why COULNDT THE EAGLES DROP THEM OFF A

Hah, check around for existing threads next time bucko. Your review is no more important (less actually) than any other (though it is far more entertaining).

You obviously don't have the slighest clue to what you're saying.

Edit: And people were leaving? Ha. I've seen it four times, and not a single person left when I was in it. Are you sure you didn't just see what you wanted to see?

I would like to know why COULNDT THE EAGLES DROP THEM OFF AT THE TOP OF THE VOLCANO!

Because the eagles are directly linked to the Valar Manwe, they are forbidden from directly altering the fate of Middle Earth.

By the way, please give me a list of the movies you've made, as they're obviously much better the that filth in the so-called Return of the King.

People were hating this movie? Mate, you should've been in Wellington earlier this month. People were loving it so much it was probably unhealthy.

ROTK isn't a chick flick. Chick flicks don't have psychotic little grey things with multiple personalities ripping people's fingers off with their teeth. And all the gore...how is ROTK even remotely chick flicky?!

The colours weren't "inferior"...the movie just isn't a terribly cheery one, so there's no need for bright pastel colours when depressing greys set the scene better.

And I don't know whether your eyesight is going or what, but the pictures were all pretty good quality.

The soundtrack isn't classical music. It would need to have been composed by Bach or somebody of that vintage to be classical music. It's instrumental fantasy music. And it doesn't hypnotise people, otherwise everyone would've gotten up and left during non musical parts.

But they didn't, because the movie has substance.

You don't like it. Accept that others like it, and that it's not because there's evil movie score composers hypnotically forcing them to watch the movie and tell all their friends.

I just saw this. You don't think we're coming from the point of view as Star Wars fans?

    Edit: It keeps getting better.

have to understand that most people are being brainwashed and being told that this is a great movie and that THEY HAVE TO SEE IT!!
when in reality the movie is horrible..

So why have most people come out of it still liking it a lot then? Brainwashing music composers got 'em? Dude, seriously.
