"BoSS Documents of the Galaxy" so Star Wars fans can feel the vivid burocracy of the galaxy far, far, away like never before. Followed up by "Legal Texts of the Galactic Governments" a compilation of Republican, Imperial, New Republican, etc. laws and intricate webs of orders. And to round up the trilogy, the third installment "From Customs to customs across the galaxy", the definite travellers handbook to import/export regulations and the delicacy of communicating and presenting oneself in accordance with a multitude of species and cultures customs and sensitivities.
All of course presented in vivid prose as as annotated and lived in style as opposed to the brutality of boring legislative texts.

Kinda an Encyclopedia Galactica for galactic travellers akin to that of Douglas Adams Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...

Just one fan's opinion...but that would have been cool. I really love the Atlas and Guide to Warfare for delving into the history and culture of the Galaxy and can only imagine that an Essential Spacefarer's Guide would have given us more of that.

That will never sell unless there's at least 3 chapters on the taxation of outlying trade routes. o_O

But seriously, I had most of those old WEG sourcebooks and they were reasonably believable descriptions of some of the more mundane aspects of travel by private transports. There's definitely room to expand on that material, and I'd happily read it.

Been dipping my toe in the Pius Dea rabbit hole this afternoon (finally have a physical copy of EGtW coming in the mail), and I find the character of Biel Ductavis super interesting and raises a lot of questions. What kind of person would be trusted enough to run both the Jedi and the Republic? Would a human, near-human, or complete non-human make the most political sense in the immediate aftermath of a near-millennium of human supremacist thinking? How did his career end? Was he actually a decent person? To be honest, I'm much more interested in characters like this being the ones from Legends to be revisited. One Ductavis novel would be far more interesting to me than a twelfth Thrawn one.

That's what I love/hate about Star Wars, is that there's so many fun little kernels that could easily become entire stories on their own, but are often never touched on again!
(If there's a more relevant Essential Guide to Warfare thread feel free to CtrlX+CtrlV this comment there)

I would love to learn more about Ductavis. The first Jedi Chancellor; it’s quite a statement.

@jasonfry Did you or Dan Wallace come up with the idea to have the Order of Dai Bendu inhabit Thape in addition to Ando Prime?

Sounds like Dan, though we're now talking nearly 20 years ago. Many things have been lost in the mists of time....

Oh I'm crummy at that -- eight-year-old me somehow thought "Tagge" must be pronounced "Tahjj" and I can't make my brain give that up. So boulder of salt etc.

But I pronounce it "Pious DEE-ah."

I know i am bumping this thread for nothing more than a personal wish...

But the skeleton crew kids are absolutely *perfect* for Jason to write stories about. My dream is now a ya series about their continuing adventures penned by him, wherein we are told the full rules to slap ball.

By the way - now that Skeleton Crew has effectively fully canonized Modi's coordinate system intended for the Essential Atlas, is there any chance of that popping up in more official reference materials?

Was also in the Batuu Guide as I recall.

Plus, do the coordinates span a 5000 LY z-axis too? Presumably so (within 'thin disc'?)

z=0 would be the galactic ecliptic; I don't see a reason for an upper or lower bound on the Z coordinates, though the Atlas introduction does talk about the thin disk, thick disk and the stellar halo. (Hopefully the science is still accurate there.)

I'm sure coordinates will now pop up more often; if something gets referenced in on-screen storytelling creators tend to run with it for a while, as witnessed by the newfound popularity of the Western Reaches after TFA.

If I can be pedantic, though -- I get the idea that the coordinate system has now been canonized, but LFL has said from the new-canon jump that they use the same map. So from my perspective nothing's new there. Though yes, it was gratifying to be able to place the At systems so precisely!

Thin disk and thick disk and halo are still spiral galaxy things.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galactic_disc

Structure of the Milky Way disc

Three stellar components with varying scale heights can be distinguished within the disc of the Milky Way (MW): the young thin disc, the old thin disc, and the thick disc.[12] The young thin disc is a region in which star formation is taking place and contains the MW's youngest stars and most of its gas and dust. The scale height of this component is roughly 100 pc. The old thin disc has a scale height of approximately 325 pc while the thick disc has a scale height of 1.5 kpc. Although stars move primarily within the disc, they exhibit a random enough motion in the direction perpendicular to the disc to result in various scale heights for the different disc components. Stars in the MW's thin disc tend to have higher metallicities compared to the stars in the thick disc.[13] The metal-rich stars in the thin disc have metallicities close to that of the sun ([IMG]) and are referred to as population I (pop I) stars while the stars that populate the thick disc are more metal-poor ([IMG]) and are referred to as population II (pop II) stars (see stellar population). These distinct ages and metallicities in the different stellar components of the disc point to a strong relationship between the metallicities and ages of stars.[14]
