Obsession is set a few months before Labyrinth of Evil, so it works out okay.

We don't know if they're dead.

Also, can we get the exact Plagueis line?

Was lucky and went looking for it at my local B&N no expecting to find it, but I did. read straight for 4 hours....I'm done know and what a book it was! Must read.

Oh and the exact line for Sidious' previous master is...... "Sidious had offered little these past thirteen years; of his master, Darth Plagueis, even less." of course, a very little part was left off the very beginning for legal reasons....but that part is irrelavent. Just adds the timeframe , Sidious' youth.

Would the Jedi Temple have picked up Anakin and Obi-Wan's bar tab as a "business expense?"

According to Rogue Planet, the Jedi accounts number in the billions.

That's a lot, since the author, as American, would have been thinking in his country's value of a billion. So to an Aust, that's even more billions. :D

I finished it last night, and it was rather great. I love the way Luceno references so much EU, but his "foreshadowing" can get annoying, theres a line from Obi Wan about a tractor beam that made me cringe.

"It was decided that learning the ways of the Force had to be a constant struggle for Luke and that he would always have to prove himself. In regard to the dark side of the Force, the story meeting transcripts [for TESB] suggest that although one can?t see it, it should be the real villain of the story. In his training Luke discovers the roots of the evil Force. The danger, the jeopardy is that Luke will become Vader, will be taken over. He has to fight the bad side and learn to work with the good side. Lucas felt that at one point during the training Ben should explain to Luke that he should use his powers with moderation. If he uses too much of the Force, it will start using him. For example, to lift objects Luke has to use the bad side of the Force, so if he overuses this power, the dark side will start taking him over as it did with Vader. When Luke fights, he has to use the dark side, but he is also using the good side for protection."
-?Laurent Bouzereau, Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays, 1997

This answers how the Force is used.

As a note, he's right and he's wrong. Since the only way to use the Force to attack (and thus, the Dark Side) is to manifest skills that alter the world around you, it's true that telekenisis, etc. are subsections of the same skill-set, but vastly different than the actual Dark Side skills that cause damage and are evil...

I just got done- FREAKING. AWESOME. BOOK.

Palpy is a master manipulator, and this book just brings that point home like none other. It's such a great read because right when they get so close to finding Sidious, he thwarts them yet again. I loved the part with Dyne and Valiant- (blacked out because it's one of the best parts of the book)

"One flesh-and-blood behind the door," he whispered to Valiant. "Readings also indicate the presence of droids." He looked at the ARC. "It's your call, Commander."

Valiant regarder the door. "We've come this far. I say we go in like we own the place."

Dyne's heart began to race. "Find, fix, finish."

After a big explosion/deaths of commandos, Dyne is one of the only ones left dying on the floor. The door opens and Dyne sees a room filled with holoprojectors and assasin droids.

Behind them walked a human of medium height and build, who stepped nonchalantly over Valiant's grotesquely twisted body.

His liquefying brain notwithstanding, Dyne found a moment to be astonished, because he recognized the man instantly.

    Incredible, he thought.

As the Jedi suspected, the Sith had managed to infiltrate the highest levels of the Republic government.

The fact that the man had made no attempt to mask himself assured and comforted Dyne that he was about to die, and shortly after the realization, he did.

I also thought it was great that it tied in so well with Reversal of Fortune...

Nothing we haven't seen before, like in Bloodlines. You get close to Sidious, try to get close, and he eliminates you. That's not much of a tease, really; rather an outcome you know will occur each time.

Damn. The ending of this book really reminds me of Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter. The hero finally manages to escape from Maul with the holocron and then at the end, runs into Palpy.

Yeah, but it's kind of pointless to show it, since we know they won't live.

Just like that magnificant idiocy, Dark Rendezvous. You know flat out Dooku won't defect, and secondly, no effort was made to make you think he would. By the time they got to him, nearly all the book was gone; there's not enough pages lft to explore that possibility.

I'll judge LOE for myself next year, but I'm not criticising it at all. I've seen it before in comics too. Bloodlines was a good example of wasted opportunity, it could have been better.
