    Well, now that Clay did it I have an excuse to post Take3. =P (low quality, low file size)

    Nice job, as always, Clay.

    I think Clay wins anyway.

    The master has arrived!

    EDIT: Which one did CLAY vote for? At least tell us later. ;)

    I don't think that's really very fair to say in light of all the hard work that went on here. I wouldn't say that the "Master" was here until John Knoll logged in and gave us what for. How come you didn't volunteer for the actual competition, Clay?

    Actually I think the two or three lead clips in the contest look better than Clay's.

    I'm really pleased Ejan took the time to create a clip, No 'lightsabre comparison page' would be complete without a submission from Clay Kronke. Thanks again for doing one (and for doing it so quickly/easily :) )

    As for the competition, clip 'B' seems to be surging ahead, this is the biggest lead any clip has had throughout the competition folks

    ::switches to horse racing commentator mode::

    "And we're in the final furlong now, it's neck and neck between Clip B and Clip I with the other still a ways back, Clip B is beginning to surge ahead, but no, Clip I is coming back, it's neck and neck again, Clip B uses his whip and pulls away again, he now has a clear lead and the finish line is in sight....but what's this?, the organisers have posted a new entry ' Clip X', and it's coming up on the rails and left the old nags for dead, and Clip X get's it on the line......Clip X is the winner - pending a stewards enquiry*

    *Clip X was deemed to be illegible for the race, and the clip was removed from the competition before it was even entered.

    B would get my vote. The glows aren't overdone, aren't too fluffy, but really a lot of them were very similar, the glows looked almost identical on several.

    It would come down to the motion for me. Although this isn't a really fair clip to judge motion, since the halving of the frame rate leaves an inherent strobing effect, which cuts out some of the smoothness of motion (which I would compensate for by making the motion blur wider than the prop blades motion blur in the frames where the saber is moving really fast).

    And the real masters are not John Knoll, but these people: (the Original Trilogy animation team)
    Samuel Comstock
    Garry Waller
    John Van Vliet
    Rick Taylor
    Kim Knowlton
    Chris Casady
    Nina Saxon
    Diana Wilson
    Terry Windell
    Renee Holt
    Mike Lessa
    Rob La Duca
    Annick Therrien
    Suki Stern
    Margot Pipkin

    (And the TPM Rotoscope team)
    Trang Bach
    Beth D'amato
    Susan Goldsmith
    Katie Morris
    Zachary Sherman
    Katharine Baird
    Scott David
    Cam Griffin
    Aaron Muszalski
    David Sullivan
    Lance Baetkey
    Kate Elsen
    Jiri Jacknowitz
    Andrew Nelson
    James Valentine
    Chris Bayz
    Kelly Fischer
    Patrick Jarvis
    Elsa Rodriguez

    ...And hijacking the thread a bit longer, there is a surprisingly large urban legend that George Lucas is a "closet Mormon." A bit of research shows that this is not true.

    And, back on topic, CLIP B RULES! I think it has a rather accurate intensity of the glow. Accurate being, "Looks Lightsabery"

    Actually, if it were to look "Lightsaberry", the the blue one would have to flicker on and off, and the red one would look white...

    (think about ANH, OB1 vs Vader)

    So you guys think you know a thing or two about rotoscoping huh? So just for fun, let's hear your attempts at 'guessing the programme used*' for each of the clips. Obviously in a few days you'll find out anyway (hopefully I can remember :p)

    *Provided people can cope with any more fun in one thread of course

    I watched clip B and Clay's clip side by side and frame by frame.

    They look so close I think Clay did them both! Ahhh...trickery. [face_mischief]

    Unless Clay has an apprentice? Hmmmm... :confused:

    i think ill take a stab at it and say...

    i think clip B looks like it was done in after effects, and for clip I i'm gonna have to take a total shot in the dark and say possibly adobe photoshop/preimer, or maby even media studio becaues clays clip looks pretty close to clip I IMOP.

    what do u guys think?

    Well now it's about 99% sure one of them was done by with Ryan_W's AE method, but I am not saying 100%. =P

    I'm going to have to say...

    B = AE
    C = Axogon
    D = AE
    E = Can't even guess
    F = I want to say Ulead MSP...
    G = Axogon and the worst of the bunch of clips
    H = AE
    I = Photoshop
    J = Gimp
    K = AE

    Then again I doubt there are four AE's...

    B and I are actually quite different when you look at them up close and frame by frame. on one of them, the green sabre is much more yellow with a wider glow. the blue sabres also have some differences, but they're not as visible.

    and if whoever was right about photoshop being the program for I, I'd love to see the method used.

    edit:
    clip "k" was updated, wasn't it? i just DLed the clips again and K looked different.
