Well, the Mandolorian Wars were actually done at the behest of the Sith...so, Sith pawns there.

Though I would say that several of your other examples really stretch the definition of pawn. Basically, you take allied in any way as a pawn, even when acting seperately, deceptively and under their own initiative like in the Vong War.

Anyone Fleet Junkie-oriented notice that the ISD was referred to as a 1600m Dreadnaught? That stung like sin, I must say.

New model, or are they referring to the old ship as an incorrect size.

3 weeks actually. T-Boy. Get it online. Seriously, as fun as the book is, I'm not sure it's worth $34-$36 bucks. Amazon is your friend.:)

Just finished this- very enjoyable adventure and a fun read with lots of continuity love- in short, exactly what you'd expect out of a Luceno SW novel. :D

I really enjoyed pretty much everything- early on I found Jadak and Reeze great chaarcters and was saddened when they were apparently killed off so soon, only to be pleasantly surprised at the survival of Jadak. I also liked that there were essentially no bad guys, just "opposing teams" for all intents and purposes.

I loved how the whole idea of Jadak following the Envoy's future history while the Solos are tracing the Falcon's past at the same time. It's just a very neat idea that slowly becomes apparent as you read it.

Also, i forget the details of TTT and SC, but was the reference to someone thinking the Falcon was destroyed at Bilbringi a reference to the fake-Falcon in either TTT or Solo Command? (EDIT- seeing the correction posted by Luceno, the passage was meant to be "9 years BEFORE the Battle of Yavin", not "after" as it says in the book, so that rules out that possibility)

On a personal note, Millennium Falcon now takes the last hardcover place possible on my bookshelf without forcing me to move the Diecast/Titanium Falcon that's been at the end of the shelf in front of some paperbacks for the past decade (albeit tipping horribly forward a the weight overcame the stand's peg's integrity some time ago). Seems appropriate that the MF book be the final one to stand side by side with it :)

EDIT- Still catching up on this thread, but some initial comments:

Wasn't there an HNN or something with that pic? It sounded awfully familiar when i read that part of the book.

    [image=http://starwarsblog.files.wordpress.com/2007/05/41.jpg] [image=http://starwarsblog.files.wordpress.com/2007/05/54.jpg] [image=http://starwarsblog.files.wordpress.com/2007/05/514040589_ec9062c261.jpg]

    EDIT 2-

I loved that part. It was quite literally Alice chasing the Hare down the rabbit hole. The only thing it was missing was either being described as green or called by the name "Max". :D

It's a real card- it was a common card for the lightside in the Premiere set.

Oh man, please give Heff a black, talking super-landspeeder. [face_praying]

    EDIT 3-

I actually ordered my copy from Amazon.com in the US. When I ordered there was no pre-order option on Amazon UK. (It was listed though). And I don't remember seeing the book in any of the local bookstores when I was in town on Saturday.

The novel describes Sullustans as near-humans!

Hmmm...the only mistake I've seen in the whole book, but an amusing one.

In my opinion, MF was a total breath of fresh air, and finally, felt like Star Wars. Adventure and close calls and secrets!

I totally loved seeing Threepio again- the droids have been off-camera for too long.

I agree that the story was fine. However, the ending fell very flat. The Senate Emblem was a very poor McGuffin, indeed.

It's better than a Rebel Death Star though.

A Jedi holocron would have been interesting. Maybe Mace hid his away...

yeah, I definitely thought the ending was...ugh. And the bad guys get off clean. We're supposed to accept Jadak as a good guy, even though he disrupts a court case and kidnaps an innocent sentient, who's only crime is his species, who he turns over to a racist crimelord?

Oh the legal ramifications of prosecuting a hive mind....

The bad guy wasn't even that bad. He did some bad things but he didn't kill or hurt anyone. He did end up losing a lot of money on Jadak's treatment.

and why is the Alliance honoring anything signed by Emperor Palpatine, either his trashing or restoring Colla Designs. Since that government is gone, shouldn't Colla be free to operate? The Empire is GONE, its laws should no longer apply.

I think it was the signed by Emperor Palpatine, war hero, at the end of the Clone Wars back when he was still legit.

Granted his government was overthrown but that doesn't mean there is anarchy. The NR/GFFA probably upheld the ban on Colla Designs.

A simple assumption would be to think that Colla Designs petitioned the NR at its birth but was denied and the original statute was maintained.

It's definitely an interesting conversation though. How did the NR manage the transition with regard to economic sanctions, justified legislation, and other legal matters?

I'm sure the Empire had a pretty interesting budget and that there was a lot of debt floating around. Death Stars don't build themselves.

But if you try to get too realistic with the logistics of running a Galactic government with thousands or millions (billions?) of sentient species and worlds, your mind will explode. The UN is ineffective as is. And thats with one species on one planet. Think global politics to the thousandth power. Then think about transitioning that between two warring groups.

I would have thought one of the perks of the New Republic was undoing all the "unjust" nationalizations and disbandings by the Empire

I cannot tell you how disappointed I was with this book. I expect more for Luceno. The whole book was a build-up to a confrontation of past meets future and when it all happened the whole thing just fizzled.

I'm not kidding when I tell you that I actually flipped back a few pages because I thought I missed something. The ending was extremely anti-climactic.

I think the ending was flat because its technically not the end of the story, but the beginning of a new one. I bet Outcast picks up right after the Solos fly off to help Luke. Also, has anybody here ever seen the movie Citizen Kane? This book felt a lot like that movie to me.

I enjoyed MF quite a bit but I wouldn't put it up there with Citizen Kane. I suppose I can see a slight slight comparison. The eternal search for the past which is unattainable. I tend to like the Maltese Falcon comparison much more.

The end fell flat for me as well. I didn't like how Han and Jedi Master Leia get played so easily. I mean Threepio is on board trying with all his might to tell them what happened. Shouldn't Leia have sensed the lies? It was no Sith playing her. It was just a pale con artist.

And when did she become a Jedi Master?

In the department of understanding human behavior I'd say Leia and Han are both masters. Also, isn't it relatively easy to become a master in Luke's order? I mean Ben is already a knight for gosh sakes.[face_mischief]
