On the contrary I care about Jusik, just find him very misguilded at the moment. Order 66 should be really interesting, Sev might indeed shoot Etain but I doubt it. I could see the Nulls banding together strangly in an effort to help the Jedi.....I'd like to see the look on Kal's face if that happened. It was nice to see Kal's boys doing their own thing rather than just following his orders and I hope that trend continues in the future.

order 66 should be interesting...especially if omega and delta are with jedi other than etain and jusik.
cant wait to see darmans reaction to his son. and for the love of all thats holy wont ordo wisen up and have a proper relationship with besany wennen.

however, if there's anything i want to see in the next book it's fixer. we heard about all the mando boys - even psycho boy sev - but fixer keeps quiet.
    sombody tell me why!?!

Very excellent book...though I'm somewhat worried about the next one as I see a lot of house cleaning (meaning deaths) coming, particularily Etain for some reason.:_|

I wasn't surprised by Jusik leaving the order...that was inevitable.

I like Traviss' work and I hope to see some more Mando'ade related books in the future...hehe.[face_praying]

Fixer was actually a lot chattier in this book than he was in Triple Zero. I was still a little surprised to see him refer to his squadmates by their nicknames instead of their numbers, which was a little theme of his the RC video game.

Keep in mind there's only so much she can do with the Deltas. All the books so far have been before that last mission in the game, so you can't really put them in 'believable' danger because you KNOW they'll come out if it. That's one of the reasons the original book was about a different squad in the first place, so as to not be hemmed in by the game.

Yeah that's a bit sad cause I don't think she's going to survive Order 66 either. Kad'ika & Gotab, or "little saber" & Jusik are still around in LotF & it appears that Jusik is still doing the Jedi mystical thingy by getting impressions off Sintas' Heart of Fire jewel for Mirta & Boba so that just hints that Etian never got to hang around Mandalore & teach her son any force skillz.

I'm really hoping that Kad'ika can have more than just impressions & feelings to remember his mother by cause I really like Etian, even if she's not all that pretty.

Makes sense but its not like they have exactly used KOTOR in the same way. Never knew Revan and the Exile had assigned sexes till somebody brought me up to speed on this board.

    Quick question.
i'v been thinking about fixer. he's the only one with two vibroblades in his armor, meaning he prefers closer more brutal fights... isnt sev supposed to be the messed up killer?

btw. anybody think scorch and fi were too similar?

Wait, Fixer has two blades? First I've heard of that. Him being good at close-quarters stuff doesn't make him more messed up than Sev, though.

yeh. it says in the game that fixer has two blades and prefers up close fighting.

is it just me or does anybody else get a sinking feeling that ordo wont make it in the final book?

For it to have the emotional impact I'd like it too I think several of the characters probably won't make it. I think Jaing's appearance with Lord Mirdalan in Inferno may be telling on that issue. Jaing was never one of Vau's gang so why did he seem to now be Mird's keeper.........Maybe it doesn't bode well for all of Delta either. I would have thought one of Vau's boys would have the Mutt, not Jaing.

Vau asked him on Mandalore in TC if he'd look after Mird after he was gone cause Strills live for a very long time, he asked Jiang or Mereel, one of them I'm sure of it.

/edit, yeah he asked Jiang to keep teh mutt.

Not as good as HC, but I definitely liked it a lot more than 000. It definitely give an interesting perspective on the clones and their motivations. Up until now, I thought all basically shared Bly's view and that after the war, they'd just do what they're ordered to do. It didn't occur to me that many would question what would happen, particularly the independently trained ones. Like I said, interesting.

Unlike the last one, I didn't think we were hit over the head too much by any single ideas except one: the clones are fighting for their brothers. Seemed like that one was repeated throughout the story until close to the end. We get it. In fact, most that know something about war, especially in history, know that that guy in the trenches was often fighting for the man beside him. No need to slam it over our heads.

I have to say, I enjoyed Ordo's internal opinions of Etain: "She's just like Bard'ika, only not as confident and good at the job."

Regarding our starring Jedi, I was also pleased with Jusik's story and the choice he made at the end. It was the right decision for him, and I think that in the end it's the right decision for his men, too. As Sev and Kal both contemplate, Jusik was too close to his men to be an effective officer. It's a problem Etain has at times, though I'm not sure she knows it.

Etain, OTOH, I tend to be more disappointed with all the time. She should probably take Jusik's lead, because she's clearly not into the Jedi thing anymore. She's at the point where her "temper" is pushing her to justify torture, rather than just regarding such techniques as pragmatic as she did in the past (sounds a bit like "anger leading to hate", doesn't it?). I also found her thoughts of the Kaminoans thinking of the clones as nothing more than biological machines when that's how many throughout fiction and in the real world refer to what human beings in essence are.

Overall, a pretty good entry. IMO, a huge improvement over TZ, but still didn't quite get me to the enjoyment level that HC did. I think that has a lot to do with that story's simpler plot and more traditional, if less complex, structure. It does quite a bit to advance the Republic Commando stories and all of the characters we've come to know and love/hate. There are times, however, that it feels all too much like the middle chapter that it is.

Reading this, I thought the same thing.

I did wonder why Zey or any Jedi ever brings this up. The alternative being they're all overrun by legions of battle droids and the CIS. Though I'm HIM had a backup for that as well.

If HK-47 us ti be believed, it's a little more complicated than that. I'm inclined to believe him almost anyone else.

Really? I may have to check that book again.

Heh, yeah. I liked seeing that.

Difference is, droids are really little more than tools, however complex their A.I.s may be.

Well, if you'd believe the Kaminoans, the clones are little more than tools, however complex their intelligence is. :p It works both ways.

They're more similar than different. Droids and Kaminoan clones are both created for a sole purpose, with their thought processes suited for that purpose (the droids' programming and the clones' genetic manipulation and training). They're both capable of intelligent thought and emotion, despite the views held in-universe. Admittedly, not all droids are capable of intelligent thought, but most would be capable were it not for memory wipes. There are some similarities.

On that note, I'm surprised that there haven't been any instances of clones seeing similarities between the droids of the CIS and themselves. The two groups are similar, not in that the GAR is a bunch of meat droids, ut that droids if given the opportunity are capable of rising to the level of consciousness of sentient beings.

No, actually, they're not. Droids exist solely to fulfil whatever their designated function happens to be, even if they may occasionally exceed their specified parameters. Clone Troopers are simply mass-produced humans.

And who's to say the clones don't exist solely to fulfill the purpose of a soldier? Droids surpass their programming, as the clones do their conditioning.

Who have you been arguing with? ;)

Clones don't exist solely to fulfill a single purpose because they're human. They have a form and a nature that exists outside of Kamino's laboratories, that was merely adopted and then adapted slightly for the purpose of turning a baseline human into a more efficient soldier. Droids, by contrast, are simply automated power tools.

Yeah, I know. I thought someone so sympathetic to clones might see droids in a similar light.

This is where we disagree, though. Droids and clones are both created for a specific purpose. This all comes down to philosophy, though. You say clones exist for some greater purpose than what they were created, and I'm saying droids are capable transcending the original purpose in their existence. Squeaky from Allston's Wraith Squandron books and I5 from the MedStar duology both come to mind.

    Sorry. I'm a vicious human supremacist. :p

Not necessarily. I did not, in fact, state that clones existed for a greater purpose than that for which they were engineered. That can be taken as a corollary of my argument, but it's not necessarily my point, which is that humans and most other organic beings as species/races or whatever simply have an existence independant of manufactured purpose, unlike droids, which are manufactured solely for a specific purpose, generally by droids who were, by way of example, manufactured solely for the purpose of manufacturing other droids.

Alright, but you'd agree that some droids exceed their purpose, wouldn't you? Our differences in opinion seem to be in wording, where you said droids exist for a sole purpose, while I say they are created for a purpose, but don't necessarily exist for it. Or did I get that wrong again? Either way, I don't think we're going to agree on this. :p

Certainly, but I would not agree that that alone makes them deserving of the same or similar status and considerations as humans.

Possibly. The point I'm trying to make here, perhaps more vaguely than I'd like, is that the existence of droids in the first place is dependant upon their having been created to serve a specific function for their makers, which is their reason for being, whereas clones are simply a manufactured version of a pre-existing life-form.

I was beginning to suspect as much. ;)
