As much as we love all the characters from Rebels, I really hope Sabine survives and maybe is still kicking butt in current timeline.

Theres quite a bit of evidence to suggest Sabine survives past Rebels. Lucasfilm seems to like her so I would expect to see her again past Rebels and Forces Of Destiny in some form of media.

So with Sabine's backstory finally being given closure after the Season 4 premier, I decided I wanted to give a little perspective on this character, using all that we have learnt. Spoilers for all seasons of Rebels below:

The start of Sabine's story can be started with some context, namely the occupation of The Empire on Mandalore. We know this came to be due to the conflict between Deathwatch (the regime that ruled Mandalore under Maul) and The Night Owls (Mandalorian resistance led by Bo-Katan). The Night Owls, being outnumbered and outgunned, called for the help of The Republic through Obi-Wan. The Jedi warned Bo-Katan that this would result Mandalore forfeiting its claim for independence as a system. This warning would eventually come to fruition, as The Republic do indeed cast out Deathwatch and remove Maul from his status as Mand'alor. However The Republic would become The Empire, and ultimately the Mandalorian people traded one enemy for another. Deathwatch became a shunned group, seen as traitors. The leadership of Bo-Katan which was instated after Maul's defeat was compromised by The Saxons who sided with The Empire and helped bring about their rule. In the years that followed, the occupation of the more brutal Imperials would change Mandalorian society. Most relevant in this case, it was expected of clans to induct their warriors into Imperial Academies.

Sabine of Clan Wren is one such example of Mandalorian cadets. We know that Sabine was a special case, her work within the academy was to work as an engineer, developing weapons. Along with this, she did exceptionally well in academic studies involving languages. Sabine was competitive at her time in the academy, she clearly believed in the Imperial cause and that it was beneficial for Mandalore, just as all Saxons thought too. This would spell the start of her nightmarish experience. The weapon Sabine created for The Empire, known as "The Duchess" was developed to counteract the powerful properties of Beskar'gram, sending electric currents to vaporise the armour and anyone wearing it. Sabine was most likely naive as a supportive cadet to think this weapon would be used for good, but would be horrified to discover her weapon was being used against her own people brutally, likely to either enforce Imperial rule or elimate Mandalorian resistance. Sabine would speak out against these actions, likely call for a stop and make a stand against it. When she did, no one stood with her, not even her family. There was also an incident at the academy that made Sabine slightly hydrophobic, but the matter involving her weapon was without doubt the prime reason for her running from the academy.

And so she did, escaping so that she wouldn't be forced to continue development. Sabine destroyed all her research and blueprints, making her the only one who could follow on the work as the creator. Sabine didn't escape alone however, but with the aid of Ketsu Onyo, a fellow cadet. They escaped with the help of a fellow Mandalorian cargo worker and Wookies. They succeeded in escaping Mandalore. This would have consequences for Clan Wren however as Sabine deserted The Empire on very important work. Alrich Wren was taken as a political prisoner and Tristan Wren was made to join the Supercommando programme, this was to ensure The Wrens' loyalty to The Empire. Meanwhile, Sabine and Ketsu had become bounty hunters, though Sabine was the softer of the two. They dreamed of working for The Black Sun. For Sabine this would not come to be, for Ketsu would leave her for dead at her own gain. This, along with her own family not supporting her when she needed them, would result in trust issues which are touched upon mostly in Seasons 1 and 2, noticeably by Hera and Ezra.

Sabine would then go her own path. At some point, she met and was recruited by The Spectres of The Ghost, captained by Hera Syndulla. This would be about a year before Season 1, and all the events that followed.

So there we have it, the whole backstory of Sabine Wren. Honestly, I think Season 3 and the Season 4 premier did a good job of fleshing her character out when beforehand she left so many questions. Now, I'd argue she's just as well developed as Kanan.

The Wookies were. In the season 1 premier, Sabine said she felt she owed Wookies since they helped her escape from The Academy.

In the Rebels comics, it was revealed Sabine was also helped by a Mandalorian civilian who dumped cargo in front of her Imperial pursuers. His name was Janard, and he was sympathetic to the cadets. He previously handed over an escaping cadet back to The Academy, but felt guilty for it.

    They really work fast.

This reminds me of the day after the Star Wars Rebels panel at Celebration London Last year. The next day after Thrawn was announced there were a total of 5 Thrawn cosplayers that I could see. They basically took Krennics cape and painted their face blue.

They certainly do work fast. We only saw glimpses of her new look in the trailer and preview. Certainly not enough to know Sabine wears a full bodysuit instead of cargo trousers, for example.

Maybe popular cosplayers have access to concept arts.

I really like the Black Series figure. Decent detail, good articulation, nice accessories. Face is a little weird but the helmet is there so...

So there are rumours about a rebels sequel series if it's true what would Sabine's role be?

I imagine she'd be a pretty big focus if it's about the search for Ezra. Or maybe the surviving Ghosts will be teaching a new generation?. Either way i imagine they'll want to cash in the recent Mando popularity boon and put her front and center. Yep, it's a good time to be a bucket head.

I decided to write another poem, since I realized the one I did already was back around the middle of season 2. Obviously, Sabine got into some significant things after that, and there's (hopefully) a prospect of her being in The Mandalorian. I wanted to reflect that stuff, with the Darksaber as the crux of it; a lot's happened because Sabine took the saber from Dathomir, and those repercussions are continuing beyond the OT.

The writing was a bit difficult, trying to fit specific ideas into what works best as an organic process. The iambic aspect did start on its own, so I extended it. All in all, I think this turned out well.

    Legacy

She brought a darkness to the day
From crimson mist and witches' eyes
    From sisters, brothers gone astray

She bore the blade and bled old wounds
Cracked a mirror made of ice
Whose shards reformed could bring a future boon

She brought a darkness to the day
To find the one to lead the way

Boo. Give me short haired Sabine again :p

I don’t know why. The short hair just felt integral to her design

She's not wearing her armor in most of the trailer as well. I think she was going through some poodoo after the purge. Hopefully she'll have a samurai moment--maybe in this very scene--where she chops it all off and puts her helmet back on.

New trailer, fresh inspiration. I actually wrote this after the teaser came out, but wasn't sure about it and didn't have a title in mind. It's adapted from some song lyrics that resonated with what I was thinking at the time.

    Transposition

I look to the stars for answers
    face glowing blue
    keeping watch but seeing nothing
    wishful eyes looking for you

    Inside I watch a memory
trace a smile and a scar
fly and fall with the stories
    the murals that we are

My shadow blows in the wind
    grown long in fiery light
and the colors fade into years
    in my quiet satellite
