Personally, I truly can't wait for the opportunity to show SG to my family....I do hope to sit 'em all down to it when the dear little bro comes a-visiting again quite soon....indeed, I'm not gonna be taking no for an answer on this one, I reckon. :) Far as I know, they're really not familiar with the whole story; they might've heard of it in passing, I suppose, but if it's all relatively new and unfamiliar territory to them, well, so much the better....and I look forward all the more to showcasing SG and Hayden for them. :D Heck, just the thought of catching him on their fine HT setup has me all a-flutter.... :D

'Course, my friends really do still have to see it as well....but they can, unfortunately, oftentimes be the much harder proverbial nut to crack. In other words....they're not necessarily nearly so obliging, drat their hides. :) Hm....wonder if this means I should look into some new friends.... ;)

I had the fortune to rent this movie (Shattered Glass) just last week. It was so good a story that I watched it twice.

Just curious....has anyone ever tried reading (or, to be more precise perhaps, suffering through) Stephen's little look-at-me, attention-seeking book "The Fabulist"? I think I mentioned before that I was in Chapters once, was kind of abstractedly curious as to whether they'd actually have such a thing in stock....surprise, surprise, they did have the one copy - and of course, in reading even just the back jacket of the thing, I got so infuriated that I could hardly think straight. :) Fact of the matter was that it only made me *so* much angrier at him....tactics like his, they absolutely appall and aggravate me to no end. Also reminds one of how Chuck Lane has already said that if Stephen was actually, genuinely contrite and really wanted to make amends, he'd be doin' something like donating all the "profits" - every last cent - of his book to charity. Whichever charity might actually deign to accept money from such a lying snake as Stephen Glass....however....I digress. :)

I suppose that it may be simply be the kind of curiosity or perverse interest that people tend to have in a particularly gruesome car crash....how we do tend to crane our necks and have this overwhelming, weird, warped little desire to see *everything*, no matter how ghastly and horrific....we may fear to watch, but I suppose we simply can't turn away either. :) So....anyone else ever tried it, even just the book's back jacket - or did that alone offend and aggravate you too so much, that you were tempted to throw the book on the ground, shred the blasted thing and stomp it into tiny pieces? Or, as quoth Obi-Wan, to crush it, grind it into tiny pieces, and blast it into oblivion? ;) Surely I'm not the only one.... :D

Was there a joke related to the futon scene? The only discussions I've had about it was how hot Hayden looked lying there holding his glasses. Yuuuuummmeee!

I just saw "Shattered Glass" and thought it was excellent. Hayden's performance, as well as most of the other actors/actresses, was brilliant. Hayden's acting was MUCH better than his uneven acting in Episode II - very convincing. It also helped that the gorgeous Chloe Sevigny was in the film ;)

The only problem I had with the film was the casting of Peter Sarsgarrd (sp?) - he was not at ALL sympathetic as the character of Chuck, someone who was supposed to be sympathetic - he just came off as a jerk in the film.

Well, you see, Chuck was not necessarily supposed to be totally, one-hundred-and-ten-percent sympathetic anyway....even though, since he's the one who ultimately swept the rug right out from under Stephen's lying behind, well, naturally one can well empathize with his struggles and frustrations in trying to get to the real truth of the matter, and in so doing, to save the magazine....yet by the same token, when he took over at TNR - Chuck was *not* exactly universally liked by the staff. He was seen as usurping Michael Kelly's position, helping to get him kicked out....and considering that Michael was so well-loved and respected at the magazine, the atmosphere for Chuck when he had to take over was more than frosty....it was downright Antarctical. Chuck has said so himself, e.g. in the commentary, for instance....he freely acknowledges it. But that was, after all, simply the nature of the schism in the TNR offices....and part of the atmosphere that Stephen was able to feed on and exploit so effectively.

So to a certain extent, I believe that we are uniquely and very rewardingly, wisely able to see Chuck Lane from multiple angles and perspectives....as the man who finally got the truth out once and for all, and exposed a liar and real wrongdoing....but he was also *not* all that well-liked at TNR, especially at first - certainly because his style was so different than that of Michael Kelly's, for instance....and we see also in "Shattered Glass" how the staff took to him, following the shakeup....or, more precisely, how they really *didn't*. They didn't trust him, he was like an outsider to them....they didn't like him....and we're able to see events from their perspective as well. And in so doing, we can certainly see how some stuff that Chuck did, the manner in which he went about some things, surely did piss 'em all off. But he wasn't just that person....nor was he solely just the whistleblower either. In the end, he was just trying to do his best to save the magazine....that's what drove him.

And, yes - he's *not* someone easily pinned-down one way or the other....one can see how some stuff he did was considered off-putting by others, but at the same time, if he hadn't done it....who knows what further disastrous, irreparable harm Stephen's lies might have ultimately done. What it all makes Chuck, I think, is someone *very* interesting....definitely far more to him than one might be tempted to initially presume, for sure. :)
