No more bashing people. I'm serious. Not another post aimed to target anyone else. I agree with anakinobiwan. I want this thread to still be here when the movie is released so we can all discuss it together. :)

Okay, to help pass the time, I figured we'd focus a bit on some of the other cast members in this movie besides Christensen. We'll start first with Peter Sarsgaard, the second biggest actor in the film. Sarsgaard plays Stephen Glass' editor Chuck Lane at The New Republic magazine. At first, Lane is happy with Glass' work and highly praises him. Then, when he finds out all of Glass' stories are fake, he becomes one pissed off dude as we saw in the trailer. I think we can expect a great performance from him in this movie. Here's a list of all the roles in film's he's been in.

Shattered Glass (2003) .... Chuck Lane
    5. Death of a Dynasty (2003) .... Brendon III
    6. Unconditional Love (2002) .... Window Washer
    7. K-19: The Widowmaker (2002) .... Vadim
... aka K*19: The Widowmaker (2002) (USA: poster title)
    8. Salton Sea, The (2002) .... Jimmy the Finn
    9. Empire (2002) .... Jack
    10. Center of the World, The (2001) .... Richard Longman
... aka Center of the World, The (2001) (USA)
    11. Housebound (2000) .... Tom
    12. Boys Don't Cry (1999) .... John Lotter
    13. Freak City (1999) .... Cal
    14. Another Day in Paradise (1998) .... Ty
    15. Desert Blue (1998) .... Billy
    16. Man in the Iron Mask, The (1998) .... Raoul
    17. Subway Stories: Tales from the Underground (1997) (TV) (as Peter Scarsgaard) .... Boy #1 (segment "Underground")
    18. Dead Man Walking (1995) .... Walter Delacroix

Does anyone remember him from any of these performances. i remember him in K-19 the Widowmaker. He did an okay job in that. Hope he does a better job in Shattered Glass. :)

Peter Saragaard is excellent in Shattered Glass. His scenes with Hayden are the most emotional, explosive ones in the movie. His character replaces a beloved editor and his co-workers are not jazzed about it. Stephen especially dislikes this move for obvious reasons.

However, he emerges as someone who stands by his decisions and his principles. Peter's protrays Chuck Lane as a cool, smart, and strong.

Not really into Peter Sarsgaard...but you know who I like? Steve Zahn! He is hilarious. He's been in Daddy Day Care recently, and he was in Riding in Cars With Boys, with Drew Barrymore. He was funny in that too, but in a more pathetic way. Like a druggie sort of way. But I still like him. He's got that kinda shy charisma. It makes him almost....attractive, for lack of a better word. Anyone know what else he's been in? I can't think of anything else right now. Oh---I think he was in some film w/Martin Lawrence, but I don't know the name of it. Maybe it was Blue Streak or something. But it didn't interest me, so I didn't see it.

The only thing I've seen PS in is "The Man in the Iron Mask"... LOL, I knew he looked familiar in the trailer. I daresay that movie isn't a true test of his skills ;) But he was still pretty good in it.

Steve Zahn was also in "Out of Sight", that movie with George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez....he was really good in it, playing a pathetic, yet strangely likeable character.....he's moving up on my list of favorite actors....of course, our guy Hayden is at the very top... :D

He also stars in "Saving Silverman." It's a comedy, he stars opposite Jack Black(I believe is the his name) and Jason Biggs.

I am glad to see him portray a different role.

I like Steve Zahn. He was also in "You've got mail" with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. I think he's the type of actor that has smaller roles in many films.

Chloe Sevingy - her I like alot. I saw her in "Boys don't Cry" "American Psycho" "last days of disco" and "dogville". I need to rent "Kids", her first film. She's totally hip and a fashionista!

Steve Zahn is one of my faves too. Did anybody see him in Joy Ride? He stole the movie from Paul Walker. Didn't think it was possible, but he did it.

And Lord, I could go on and on and on about how much I love Chloe.

I also like the idea of Hayden working with Paul "Taxi Driver" Schrader. If there's any truth to that story.

    Good review.

It is hard portraying a character that is fact and not fiction. You can almost never be dead on accurate. I loved Val Kilmer in the Doors, but Ray Manzarek was very critical of his performance as well as the entire film.

Sissy Spacek and Robert DeNiro have all done outstanding jobs portraying real life people. Perhaps in addition to being outstanding actors, they also had the benefit of being coached by the person they were portraying. And they both won Oscars, as a matter of fact. ;)

But at the end of the article when he says this:

"Here is a more troubling thought: Maybe Shattered Glass is right, and my
memory has deceived me. Maybe this Steve is the real one. Maybe Steve
was creepy in his insecurity; maybe he was constantly manipulating us
emotionally, and maybe we were too stupid to notice. Maybe what I
remember as his charm would seem noxious to me today. I don't know. I
prefer my memory-bank Steve: It makes me feel slightly less a dupe."

It sounds like maybe Hayden got Glass right after all. And what's this about a speech impediment? Has any one ever noticed that? I certainly haven't.

I have!!! And I love the goofy way Hayden talks. Sounds like a mix of Canadian with a bit of New York bravada thrown in.

    In AOTC talking to Padme':

"Well you know, it wouldn't have to be that way. We could keep it a secret."

Definitely some New Yawk going on there. :D

Seeing the movie, the only close to an impediment is how his voice gets a little jittery when he's nervous but I wouldn't say it was an impediment as I define it. When he would ask someone, "Are you mad at me?" he may stutter for like a second and that's it.

Interesting comments when comparing Stephen to Hayden's performance. Stephen was probably very charming and fun but behind all that was a conniving, desperate person. I believe the real Chuck Lane said in press notes that Hayden has an eerie resemblence and mannerisms as Stephen and when Stephen was interviewed on 60 minutes, Hayden's portrayal was pretty dead on.

LOL! Yeah, I saw the 60 minutes clip in my Media Writing class. From what I've seen of the real Stephen Glass and from what I've seen in the trailer, I'd say Christnesen is fairly close but not dead accurate. Maybe my opinion will change after I see the full movie. On a side note, I'm going to go see Chloe in the theater this Friday in The Rundown.

It's too bad the 60 Minutes episode wasn't shown before Hayden did the role. Even though most people are saying he got him down almost perfect, there's no doubt that Hayden could have only benefited from seeing it. And maybe getting Steve down exactly right would have made him a less interesting character on the screen.

*anakinobiwan: How do you feel about the character as a whole? Is he likeable? Will I feel sorry for him?*

Good question. I think overall, he was a sweet but extremely insecure person who loved famed and attention and had no clue that what he was doing was wrong.

The first 1/3 of the movie, he was someone that gave too many compliments and tried too hard to please but at the same time he was sweet, enthusiastic, entertaining and charming. That, along with his look ---the baby face, the glasses, the wide-eyed stares--- helped him get away with alot. He became more tense and nervous toward the middle of the film. He was always in the office and didn't appear to get much sleep. I was glad when he was caught in the end but at the same time, I couldn't help feeling sympathy for him. The reaction he has when fired is a painful scene.

Was he likable? If I image a Stephen Glass character in my office, acting the way he did in the movie, I would probably like him because he's entertaining and nice but be annoyed with his constant, "Are you mad at me"? and "did i do anything wrong" questions over and over again.

That's my take. I can't wait to hear what other people think.
