so, I think you've opened the door on something interesting here...even if it was inadvertant.

Is Dead Dad a figment of their collective imaginations or is he really a ghost haunting them?

I'd say figment, just like all the dead people David talks to.

An odd move for Dad was walking up the stairs at th end of Season One. I thought that indicated that he was gone, but I guess not. I wonder if plans were changed or something.

Anyway, I say figment because..I dunno, it jsut feels more right to me for the series.

    How about you?

Well, y'know I"m not really sure. The droid and I have discussed it before. I can see the argument for both sides and I'm not sure which I subscribe too. David does talk to alot of the dead folks and it is usually about him working through his own issues, definitely and I can see how that would make you think it is the figment of their imagination, but then every single Fisher sees Dad, and frequently.

He's probably Freudian or something, but it's hard not to think of him as "real" sometimes.

I think it's his personality coming out in their own. We are our parents, whether we like it or not.

I get the impression that, though none of them really feel they needed their father or felt abandoned by him or felt that they didn't really know him, they want him in their lives. It's just for different reasons, as should be expected.

Nate needs him as a guide on the road to redemption. David needs to know that he should be living his life, not his father's. Claire needs to know that she is and always was loved, especially when she feels that it is otherwise on a day to day basis.

Unresolved feelings lead to a lingering doubt that resolution will ever come. With each appearance they are one step closer to resolution with the spirit of their dead father.

Very intriguing topic, guys, one which I have debated a few times myself. I always felt that Dad was a figment of the family's imaginations, coming to them when they need 'fatherly guidance' or merely need to talk to someone other than friends and family. What I always found most interesting is that they've never discussed how Dad has appeared to each of them at some point. This leads me to believe even further that they are merely conjuring him up in their heads.

Oh, and I just got the latest Entertainment Weekly in the mail and there is a behind the scenes article on 6FU. Just figured Id let you all know.

Cant wait till Sunday !! UP !!!

    BUT!

In the "coming attractions" for this weekend's episode we see Nate ask David if he ever sees or talks to Dad. We may have this issue seriously addressed finally.

Interesting...I haven't seen the preview, but that sounds great.

But say they both admit they see Dad, will they come to the conclusion that he's a figment or a ghost?

I always assumed that the father was a figment of their imagination. I dunno though. Just in the last few episodes I've been wondering though. Especially when Nate sr. made that comment about Gabe being in his neck of the woods soon. Was that Claire's own worries, or is the father really telling her something?

    *heh heh heh*

I just saw tomorrow's episode at the Paley Festival via the Museum of Television and Radio. The Jedi Droid and I got to see a question/answer session with the cast, producers, and writers, and then we got to watch the new episode, directed by Kathy Bates.

AND, I have to say that it was the best episode of the show I have ever seen.

Well, I didn't say anything before tonight because it was all based on a bunch of "maybes" but I went to the W.S. Paley festival spotlighting 6FU. It was amazing, Alan Ball was up for the DGA award tonight so they had to juggle the order of events tonight, usually they show an episode (we saw tomorrow nights show) then they bring everyone on the panel out & the moderator talks to them for about 30 minutes or so, then they do about a 30 minute Q & A with the audience, but tonight they did the Q & A first & then showed the episode. It didn?t take away from the experience at all except for after the Q & A the cast & crew usually hang out after and take pictures & give autographs, that didn't happen this time since the episode came last.

Ok, man, where do I start?? :) Ok, first off the only thing I'm gonna say about the episode is WOW!!! I have to say hands down & this may have something to do with the fact we saw it on a movie screen, but it was the best episode yet.

Alan Ball was wonderful, what am I saying everyone was wonderful. Rachel Griffiths wasn't there cause she is on a promo tour for her movie "The Rookie", Richard Jenkins wasn't there either.

Ok I really thought hard about what to ask if I had the chance, & I wanted to ask what it's like for Freddy Rodriguez to play Rico, and Matthew St. Patrick to play BBSC since (and this is my opinion) those two characters are the best written minority characters in television? I wanted to tell them that as someone who works in the entertainment industry I am so proud to see work like that, because, at the end of the day everyone who works in the industry dream about having their names attached to something like Six Feet Under, or even Oz, oh hell, pretty much anything on HBO. Not all of us are that lucky. I can't imagine how it feels to produce quality work like that. In the end, since I was one of the last people to get a question in, I had to keep it short, I asked how much time had past between the last episode of season 1 & the 1st episode of season 2 & read it here. Straight from Alan Ball.."2 weeks" I know that doesn't explain Gabe's hair, but that's what the man says.

Someone asked about the opening credits, Alan Ball said, that the opening credits were shot in Seattle. That explains the license plate on the hearse in the credits, for everyone who never noticed, in the opening credits that hearse has Washington state plates & last season on the boards there was some talk about that.

Alan Ball was funny; he defiantly didn?t hide his feelings towards the Major Networks. When he was talking about the 1st meeting with the HBO execs after they delivered the script for the pilot episode, usually in that meeting, the network says they have a few minor notes, his examples (and I can say from experience, he is not exaggerating) that the networks would say "great script, we have a few minor notes. Change that it takes place in a Funeral home & take out the gay characters". When HBO said they had some "minor notes" he was expecting the same kind of reaction, but instead HBO's notes for him after reading the pilot was, the family isn't screwed up (actually he used the "F" word) enough & you don't have to spell everything out, let the people figure it out for themselves.

Personally, I love that, I say let the networks (and as Peter Krause says "the little man behind the curtain" of the major networks) dumb down their shows, HBO is raising the bar. And eventually its gonna get to the point that ABC, NBC, CBS & FOX..Ect are going to have to improve the quality of the shows they have on the air.

Well, I just wanted to tell you guys about it, I can?t wait for everyone to see this episode, it really is wonderful..I'm sure tomorrow I'll want to tell more, but I?m still on emotional overload. It truly was amazing

hey everyone. Last night I was so excited to tell everything I could think of, i didn't tell anyone what happened before i even got in. I was down in the parking garage looking for an extra ticket, , well I was stepping into te elevator and heard someone get one with me, but I wasn't paying attention to who it was, so I asked if he has an extra ticket...and it was Freddy Rodriguez, I explained that my fiance & I had gotten here at 10:45 am to get in the stand by line for a ticket, he said .."oh my god, oh man, if I had a ticket, I would give it to you." I didn't have my purse on me, so I couldn't get an autograph. But he was a great guy.

Alan Ball also talked about the rumor of "big name" actors being dead bodies. He said that when he was writting Six Feet Under, that he thought oh man this will be great, we can get some big names in the dead people, then he told a story about when he was working on Cybil (BTW he made it very clear that working on that show was not a postitive experience) he said "We thought we can get Bruce Willis as Dr. Dick, well he passed, so then we said well we can get that big soap opera star to get it..well we couldn't get him either, I learned with that experience that there are some great actors out there who are not household names. Then I thought to myself, Oh yea, I'm not on a network anymore, I don't have to think that way"

So in answer to the question if there are going to be celeberity actors, he said he will cast the right person for the part.

If you are spoiler free, I would not suggest reaing the following comment, although its not a big spoiler, its in refrence to a supporting character from last season.

    spoiler

ok, someone asked last night about Tracy, if she will be back, Alan Ball said no, when he said that I was a little upset to hear that, then he gave his reason, & it made alot of sense to me. He said that how could they bring Tracy back, through the whole season she had been this annoying person, then in the last episode she had that mement with Nate, Alan said, how could we bring Tracy back as the annoying person she is, after the moment she shares with Nate. So no more Tracy.

    end spoiler

I always loved Alan Ball, but after hearing him & his team of writers & producers talk, I think he has to be one of the finest writers in the industry today, I look forward to the future seasons of 6FU, and future projects by him.

Wow ! That is sooo cool, guys ! I cant believe you got to see last nights show on a big screen meet the cast ! That ***** rocks !! So, do you know if this festival will be coming to the NYC area at all ? :::crossess fingers::::

Anyway, about last night's show. It was another great episode, although I didnt like it as much as last week's premiere. We saw very little of Ruth, which I think is a good thing; her character is a bit over the top, a bit too cartoony in a world of super realistic characters. On the flip, I really enjoyed Claire's scenes with Gabe, as well the scenes with Keith and his niece and sister. Im glad we will be getting to know more about him, it really makes the show that much better if we know the supporting players (Keith, Rico, Gabe, Nikolai, etc) on a more personal level. (Although I must admit that I cannot ****** stand Rico's wife !! She defintely make's me want to reconsider marriage)

And, lastly, on to Nate. Is this guy one of the best actors on TV or what ? His performance on last night's show, as well as the premiere were simply amazing, showing Peter Krause's true range and gifts as an actor. I had a lump in my throat when he daydreamed that he actually told Brenda about his ailment. But when he told David what was going on the final scene, tears came very easily to my eyes, and I never cry...

UP, FOR ALL TO SEE !!!!

    Hey there.

Actually, no it won't be going to NYC. Even though they do have a Museum of Television and Radio there, the William S. Paley festival only takes place in LA. It happens February/March every year. They usually do about a dozen shows like this, and at least one retrospective type show (this year it was St. Elsewhere).

I disagree with your comments about Ruth. She's just coming to grips with her new found freedom.

And yeah that was an amazing episode for Nate, Brenda, and Rico.

I just rewatched Sunday's episode. Damn it was good. I must have missed the preview for next Sunday, because OMG, it looks great! Gabe is really getting into it heavy. Keith's mother looks like another great character. I was hoping Ruth was going to join The Plan...after her self help books and then Robbie's graduation it seemed to be heading that way, and it is. Can't to see what happens between Brenda and that bar guy either.

This show is the best thing since...I don't know what

On Saturday night at the 6FU symposium Alan Ball was talking about Nate having AVM...his cousin(Alan Ball) has it. 1% of the nation has it. Alan said that people can live a long healthy life with no effects, & some can die from it. He went on to say he was trying to say "any of us could go at any minute, you could be 100% healthy one day and die the next"

I was just re-watching the first episode from season 2. & Was wondering something. When Nate was sitting on the beach at the end of the episode, DD says to Nate, "your in the game now buddy boy, whether you like it or not" Is that a reference to Nate just finding out that he passed the funeral directors test? Or is it in reference to his AVM, & he is in the game of life now because he is forced to face his own mortality?

Personally the first time I saw the episode, I thought DD was referring to the game of life. Nate has said on several occasions that until he came back home he was coasting thru life with out a care in the world, but in less than a year, his father has died, he's 1/2 owner in a business he spent his life running from, he has gotten into what looks like it could turn into a life long relationship, & then he finds out he has a potentially fatal illness. All of that could make alot of people come to grips with their mortality. Or maybe I'm just reading way too far into DD's comment

Another great episode! This show rules them all. They are really leading us to believe Brenda will cheat on Nate. I'm hoping she doesn't.

And everyone needs to go vote for 6FU here

I have to agree, last nights episode was great.

I have to admit, even though I dont like Ruth's character all that much, I did really enjoy her scenes at the seminar.

I really dont like where Brenda's character is going. Her scenes are so depressing and strange that it is hard for me to sit through them. Hopefully she will come out of her stupor.

I feel really bad for Claire. She's too cool a girl to be be caught up with a born degenerate like Gabriel. I hope he ends up dead, sooner rather than later...

    UP !!!!
