...The fact that they have the GALL to call the Twilight series a Saga. There was only one movie, and now only two. That's not a Saga!!!!

As much as I hate to admit it, it's actually more than that. It's a four book series....but still, not a saga.

And there can be more than one saga. It doesn't have to be ALL Star Wars. What about Tolkien? Enderverse? Narnia? Dune? And of course all the great sagas of old, like King Arthur and Beowulf. And the ones from history. And the biblical sagas...and...yeah...lots of sagas.

I'm glad you found a dictionary definition. Knew it would prove them wrong. I know it's a 4 BOOK series but they are calling the FILM series a Saga. I don't think it's a Saga, it's just a story that happens over about 2 years or something. Star Wars goes over 40 years or something.

Tolkein's work isn't called a Saga, but a Trilogy. Narnia isn't called a Saga either. THey are actually calling Twilight a Saga.

If you want to nitpick LOTR isn't a Trilogy either. Its a single work the publisher insisted on dividing. And that's disregarding the volumes and volumes of other stories Tolkien wrote and published about Middle Earth.

 

The Lord of the Rings is actually a six-part series (hexalogy?) more than a three-part (trilogy). The movies are properly a trilogy but not the books.

As for whether it's a saga or not, it probably is when you include The Hobbit and definitely is if you include The Silmarillion, which takes place thousands of years before either The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings.

 

Narnia isn't called a Saga either.

It doesn't matter what it's called. It's still a saga. Chronicle is actually another word for saga, according to the Apple's dictionary.

 

I mean the films. They don't call the films a Saga.

And I should have specified as well...they don't call the LOTR films a Saga but a Trilogy.

It can be both. Shocking, I know.

They called Star Wars a saga when Empire came out, so I am not sure how you justify the others not being worthy of being called a saga.

 

The reason that the TESB was referred to as being a part of a saga when it came out, is because one of the original definitions of the word saga is that it is a story about a family, which, obviously, Star Wars is.

I know nothing about Twilight, but if it is a story about a family, then it being referred to as a saga would make perfect sense.

 

I thought that Star Wars DID have an episode indicator on the re-release of the film, which was in theatres before TESB...?

 

I am not stating Star Wars is miss-appropriately labeled nor that Twilight should be called a Saga. I am challenging the author's issue with the semantics of the term use based on the thread author's arguments.

 

And I wasn't challenging anything within your post, Jimbo, I was simply stating a fact about the definition of the word saga and it's use within the marketing for TESB.
