The One Line That Is SOOOOOOOOOOO 1983.

Does everyone agree that this line is the most ROTJ Emperor Palpatine?!

It was awesome. When I first saw it, it was instant flashback to 1983. The expressions, the tone, the inflections, everything is perfect, especially the weak little smile at the end. Even the makeup looks pretty damn close here. The wrinkles, the " crackling " around the mouth, know what I mean?

I just really was totally convinces that I was looking at the Emperor Palpatine I knew and loved when Ian spoke this line.

 

Yeah, I agree. It was a great line.

 

I had noticed that the makeup looked best there, but now that you mention it that really is the most RotJ-like of his lines.

Anyways, yeah, I have to agree with you. I love this line! Especially how he just wispers peace.

I agree that the line was the best of the bunch from Palpidious...that and his comment "my little green friend." Those were both brilliant lines.

 

what about "Goooood, Goooood, and" The force is strong with you"

 

I loved the 'more' in that line, and the old school way he put tone on it.

 

As well as "I can feel your anger." But I love how he says, "I am the Senate."

 

I agree with Sinister. Those were his two best lines. But the "I can feel your anger" was 1983, literally all over again, considering he says that exact same thing in ROTJ.

 

I must dissent with thread and agree that Sinister's contribution, "I am the Senate" is even more ROTJ
It reminds me of "...and your pitiful little band."

But for the record my favorite (ROTS) Palpatine line is :

I don't think the line souunds 1983ish but mabye the facial expressions.

 

My personal favortie is "Your arrogance blinds you." to Yoda.

 

That was a cool line when you thin about it.

theres one scene in ROTS that reminded me of ROTJ a lot:

anakin:" what about the other jedi spread across teh galaxy"?
palps: " thier betrayal will be dealt with"

and

darth:" what about the reports of rebel fleet massing near sullist"?
palps:" it is of no concern. soon the rebellion will be crush...."

 

The line that really sold me on Ian's performance as the Emperor was the one from the trailer: "Every single Jedi, including your friend Obi-Wan Kenobi, is now an enemy of the Republic."

 

the way he says "jedi" in that line (Jeh-tai -ish) is very old man palps. its rocking

 

Best line of the movie.

Especially after so much mayhem and murder the man has committed, the atrocities, the war and here he is talking about how he is really just after peace.

The irony is just too delicious. And even HE knows it.

 

The line that really sold me on Ian's performance as the Emperor was the one from the trailer: "Every single Jedi, including your friend Obi-Wan Kenobi, is now an enemy of the Republic."


Actually, "...including your friend, Obi-Wan Kenobi..." wasn't in the trailer. Unless you already knew that.

 

"Leave us!" was also quite good.

 

"Now you will experience the full power of the DARK SIIIIIDE!!!"

Then he zaps Yoda. That was also classic '83 Palpatine. And I agree that it was 1983 again when he said "...and we shall have peace." Everything there, the inflection, the look on his face, everything. That scene could've been dropped into ROTJ and fit perfectly.
