Can you break down exactly what the goals of that boycott were? Was it to convince Lucasfilm and CN to cancel TCW, or was it something less concrete? Was it simply to convince them to reverse an artistic decision of one party, one that had little relevance to the business side of things? Was it a mere expression of displeasure? If there weren't any concrete goals, then it's no wonder it failed, no matter how many people got involved.

This effort has an actual goal: to convince Disney, Lucasfilm and CN to work out a good deal that allows TCW to continue rather than be cancelled in a pre-Sequel Trilogy rationalisation or lost in IP battles like Spectacular Spider-Man and the Star Wars films' 3D re-releases. It's realistic and achievable. It directly addresses the business side of the series. Convincing the Disney, Lucasfilm and CN executives that there's a fanbase which is ready and willing to continue making TCW a success and one which is not likely to take kindly to a cancellation (complete with ramifications for the Sequel Trilogy; a publicly traded company might more strongly avoid the risk of alienating its customers with such sweeping changes) can easily maximise the series' chances of continuing to its originally planned conclusion.

I echo Fives on the risks beyond the simple continuation/cancellation Boolean choice. Making support known now will maximise the series' chances of getting a genuinely good deal, potentially saving it from any number of ignominious fates.

Your example of the boycott over TCW's portrayal of Mandalorians is a bad analogue to this. It addressed the artistic choices made by Lucasfilm, which most executives don't give a damn about if they don't affect the bottom line. TCW gets something in the order of one million viewers in an off week. Hundreds of boycotters didn't make a difference, sad to say. Meanwhile, numerous examples of successful fan support campaigns have been brought up, from Star Trek and Fringe to Family Guy. Like this one, those efforts had concrete goals.

Honestly, I wouldn't care if it stops airing on TV. Dave made it clear several times we the fans would see all the episodes. That means they would be available online to purchase or on DVD.
My beef with this petition is chances are that your letters will be scanned over and then you'll receive a generic letter/email back saying your feedback was appreciated.
But it all boils down to this:

BE PATIENT. Don't go around expecting answers right away. I'm sure things are being worked out, and Disney is preparing to make announcement when they are ready to.

    Quango:
I'm not comparing the artistic choices at all. I'm just saying that companies for the most part don't give a damn if people want something. Whatever is going to get them more money is what drives them. Disney will pick up TCW because they will make money off of it, not because people send in letters for it to air.

That and they just spent 4 billion dollars for the rights of it, why not use a already established TV show?

Neither am I. It's simply the case that a media company will not care about artistic choices unless they hurt the bottom line.

At no point have I disagreed with the notion that Disney will do what will earn them the most money, and that may include "picking up" TCW (Where? An exclusive on Netflix and Hulu or initially aired on Disney XD? Believe it or not, the business case for TCW will dramatically change with all of these, subsequently affecting the creative side of the project) and using the existing resources of TCW. This is why making support known now will maximise the chances for TCW getting a good deal from any negotiations. It would remind Disney and other relevant parties that there is a lot of money to extract from a successful, fully corporate-backed TCW. That being as opposed to a TCW which is shunted around distribution channels and is generally unwanted by the most desirable distributors.

We are patient and all the same we are making our voices heard. TCW costs alot of money for one and its in a different era which I'm sure is what all the 'what ifs' are about. We're just showing some support is all. I honestly don't expect to get any reply from Disney. Never happened in any campaign I've been a part of but I've seen the results. Family Guy has been on the air how many years after being saved by a petition. I don't get why that would cause any beefs.

Shows that air in prime time hours are in a different league than shows that air in "off" prime time hours. And shows that are "online only" are in a different galaxy all together. Media companies and networks invest in shows that are popular. Not "internet" popular, but "broadcast" popular.

If TCW isn't somewhere on a boradcast network, it's funding will be cut, or just eliminated. Once the budget goes, so does the quality. They won't be able to pay the voice actors we know and love, so we'll start getting different voices for the characters. The animation and editing will suffer. The writing will suffer. This becomes a death spiral. As the quality goes down, it will lose fans, and then the cycle repeats until the show is dead.

For TCW to keep the quality it has now (animators, voice actors, writers) it needs to be on a POPULAR broadcast channel, with a a good time slot. If it gets on a crappy channel, poor time slot, the budget will suffer, the show will suffer. If it goes straight to internet, it will be the nail in the coffin. These last good episodes will air, but anything new will be crap.

Back to writing letters: it can be argued either way. Sure, they might all go in a shredder, but in the media and broadcast industry, that is driven by viewers and FANS, letters are usually read and recorded. One fan letter doesn't make a difference, but receive a thousand or more? It will at least be noticed. A thousand fan letters for a prime time show like "American Idol" [face_sick] is nothing, but for a Saturday morning cartoon? It's substantial.

The whole point is it's not that they are just going to throw the already filmed episodes in a dumpster, it's voicing a positive opinion for the show so that it can keep getting better and better time slots and get it on a popular network. Thus equaling more budget, which will keep the quality high, actors paid and animating crew happy.

All Family Guy fan's please look away, you've been warned:

I HATE FAMILY GUY!!! I was so happy when it was canceled. I made fun of all my friends that liked it. I told them "see, I told you that show sucked. I knew it would be canceled."

You could imagine my horror when years later it made a come back. All because of fan support. Seriously? Family Guy had fans? There was enough people to actually get it back to life? Seth MacFarlane is hosting the Oscars now?

The point I'm trying to make is there HAS to be more Star Wars fans then Family Guy fans. TCW is superior than Family Guy in every way. Unless you are a die hard TCW hater, you really should be writing letters. If not just for TCW, but for future SW programing. Disney execs maybe thinking "well if there wasn't any support for that TCW show, there probably isn't any support for making a live action show, or anything else besides movies either". Again I point to Family Guy, because of it's success, it spawned two other shows just like it.

Ok. First of all, should the series actually be in danger of being taken off the air, for whatever reason, I hope that this petition succeeds, or at least has some input to those in control of said things. I love Star Wars The Clone Wars, and it would be a shame to see it gone from my television every weekend. But yes if it does I'll say I tried.

[face_laugh] Family Guy, The show has been canceled twice, once following the second season, which caused the show to not air a new episode for a year, and the second (and longest) being between the third and fourth seasons, from 2002 to 2005. But if Star Wars gets canceledd, this means war [face_devil] I will sue Disney

As someone who didn't start watching TCW until after S5 released, I'm curious as to how long the breaks were between previous seasons? After a finale had aired how long did you have to wait to find out if another season was on the way?

Coric - I think you're missing the point of what many of us (or at least myself and phatdude1138 ) are fighting for .

^^^ this is what we're fighting against.
    It is not enough.
We don't want Disney to just give us all of the already completed episodes and "call it a day."
We want to make sure that TCW team is enabled to continue to develop the characters and stories beyond what has already been created.

Its the difference between them giving us 10 loaves of bread instead of a life-long baker. Sure...of course the 10 loaves wouldn't be just thrown away - we'd still get them. But we'd rather get the baker who can continue to bake bread for us until the time is right to stop.

We understand that it is not everyone's opinion that the show continue for much longer - some of you thought that 1 season was too many. We are not those people. We want it to be able to continue on its own and write its own ending (whether that be 3 years from now or next season). We do not want it to unexpectedly be facing cancelation in a season or two because of the poor decisions the execs made about Season 6's destination.

In previous seasons we knew there was another one on the way right away. New seasons always premiered late December or October.

Kyle Newman and Paul Bateman give some great impassioned speeches on why the Clone Wars is so great and should keep running on the latest Rebel Force Radio Clone Wars Declassified. It's the one on "the Wrong Jedi"... they and Jimmy Mac are honest on some critiques but make the case on how this is an amazing show and how fans need to start watching it and speaking up about it.

Paul called it his favorite TV show right now and I will have to agree. Kyle mentioned the many Star Wars fans who have not given it a chance yet even... Folks that wear Xwing tshirts and buy Gentle Giant stuff... and you're not watching this great show? C'mon guys! Anyhow, just hoping that some of the word of mouth is helping get some attention along with our other campaigns!

    Thanks!

I actually just finished my letter to Bob Iger and Kennedy. I also wrote a separate letter to Filoni, but it was more on the direction of TCW and beyond. The only problem is I don't have access to a printer until Monday, and I really want to mail them this weekend. I guess I can go old school and go to Kinkos and get them printed out ;)

Probably a big reason why there is such a wait taking place for the future of TCW is the fact that the Cartoon network is a rival station for Disney. I'm sure Disney doesn't have any problem with Clone Wars continuing but it wouldn't want it to continue on a rival networks station. We definitely won't see it on the Cartoon Network anymore and they may just be dotting all the I's to take it off the cartoon network (as I'm sure the Cartoon Network likes having it on their channel).

Announcements generally aren't done until everything is figured out anyway and changing companies takes some time to figure things out.

As was I'm sure Disney didn't like the fact that one of the properties that they just bought was giving money to Turner during season 5 and I'm sure some of you are failing to realize the fact that the Cartoon Network is a rival station for Disney.

This is interesting. LFL has continually alienated EU fans by screwing over the canon with this show, so that some people are butthurt and may or may not (probably not) watch the ST because of it is ironic. LFL doesn't care about alienating its customers, and a mega-corporation such as Disney sure as well won't either. I don't think they're going to care about boycotts either way.

    Yes, all 10 of you..

From what voice actors and directors have said in interviews recently, it's obvious that LucasFilms is discussing how they will transition from CN->XD

What are you trying to get out of this exactly? A letter of confirmation? That won't happen. It'll be announced at the same time at a expo or convention or something.
(Unless it gets leaked of course)

That's not true. We always found out in the summer the exact date. Back when there were trailers after the finale, all we would know is: COMING NEXT FALL

Also there was never a premiere in December.. but that's beside the point.

Edit: I misread this, but the point still stands. We know season 6 has been started, so we know we'll see it one way or another. You will have season 6, but even if it's not on Disney, you'll see it.
