As everyone knows the Red Guards in the Star Wars movies never speak, but that doesn't mean we can't immagine. If they ever did speak, what do you think they'd sound like? Would they be normal people like the Stormtroopers or would they have a totally different, recognizable voice?

I always assumed that they would sound like a storm trooper or something. I always though that was what they were, only specially trained to protect the emperor.

Now, who were those croonies that was with the Emperor in ROTJ? I doubt that they have any imporance, but where only put in the movie as a cinematic element. To sort of give that "this man is evil and he hangs out with his evil buddies" kind of thing.

The Royal Guard don't have any "mouth" on their helmets like stormtroopers do.

Either they can't/don't talk at all, or they only communicate between themselves via internal radio.

That's actually a pretty cool idea. The RG are so elite, so absorbed in their protection duties, that they aren't even equiped to deal with "normal" interpersonal interaction.

"Many Imperial Guards are sworn to an oath of silence, used as a weapon of intimidation."

That from Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy.

I love it that someone decided they swore an oath of silence, just because they didn't say anything on-screen :p

It's a miracle they made the Cantina Devaronian into the Slaughterer of Montellian Serat
and not leader of the Grinning Monks (also vowed to silence, of course)

but okay, it adds to their mystique, I guess. However, I'm glad they were quite chatty in the Crimson Empire comics

I always viewed them like the British Royal Guard. They don't say a word, they don't acknowledge you unless you're a threat.

They are Imperial dignitaries - advisors from different planets. (see STAR WARS: The Ultimate Visual Guide pg.65)

heh, funny. half an hour after I replied to this thread, I read the RotS novel - in which a Red Guard tells Anakin (at the opera) "You're expected"

I guess it was only after Empire Day that they had to take their oaths ;)

I know this is from ROTS, but I'd swear that just as one hit his head and crumbled to the floor, he shouted, "Wow! I coulda have a V-8!".

The Red Guards did have a line of dialogue in a deleted ROTJ scene- where they deny Vader access to the Emperor.

They were initially told to say "HARK" and then "who goes there"

but when they did the line, the one guard said "who goes there" before the other said "Hark"

Must have been their gear, or the wall.
the Visual Dictionary states that the Royal Guards are hand picked from the best non-clone millitary units. So they are all human, or at least humanoid.
