It seems pretty certain at this point that Peridea will be an important location in the future of Ahsoka, and it might play a significant part in the future of Star Wars in general. Dave Filoni has said before that with these new live action shows that he and Favreau have created (and will undoubtedly continue to do so), they do not need to feel bound to specific locations, characters and events, because the galaxy far far away is a pretty big place, and it gives the chance for multiple stories to be told, that don't necessarily overlap with each other.

And now, the galaxy might be getting even bigger, or actually to put it better.... we might be getting a galaxy further away (!) I thought I would make a thread so we can discuss our theories in the beginning, and eventually what we will actually discover about all of this in Ahsoka (and potentially elsewhere).

    Useful introductory video:

Here's what I think at the moment:
    • This other neighbor galaxy is not accessible via the usual means of transportation that all beings in the GFFA have, namely hyperspace travel via hyperdrives. For that reason Morgan Elsbeth is actually building a huge machine that will use 9 Super Star Destroyer hyperdrives, potentially for intergalactic travel as opposed to interstellar travel.
    • One confirmed way to travel to this other galaxy, is by joining a purrgil in its migration trip. Apparently these huge space whales not only are able to travel between the stars in hyperspace, but they can safely map a hyperspace trip to another galaxy. Somehow Thrawn and Ezra got caught in one of those trips, and are presumably unable to return to the GFFA.
    • My prediction is that Ahsoka, Sabine, Hera, Chopper, Baylan Skoll, Shin Hati, and Morgan Elsbeth (with a few more companions probably) will make the trip to Peridea at some point, and will find both Thrawn and Ezra there. At the same time, Gillad Pellaeon (teaming up with Elsbeth?) is planning the return of Thrawn, which proves to be a difficult task to complete. By the way, that scene in Mando S3E07 now makes even more sense.
    • And this brings me to the somewhat bold (?) prediction, that if travelling between galaxies is so difficult, perhaps all of the characters in Ahsoka will be stranded in Peridea's galaxy. Maybe none of them will have the chance to return to the GFFA again. I guess riding a Purggil should make it feasible, and Ezra has done this before once so it would seem strange if he hasn't been able to ride one back home in the last 10 years that he has been stranded.
    Any thoughts?

Not opening that. I hate knowing leaks. I would rather have a conversation without leaks personally.

Well I can post ‘em. Sorry

nothing else to the leaks so they won’t be brought up. They are in a spoiler tag for a reason. So you don’t have to see them

We’ve got a movie/era that’s been referred to as “New Jedi Order” and we’ve just now been introduced to extragalactic elements.

There’s some pretty big implications if they choose to go down that route.

Why was Peridea important before the Thrawn connection? Was this ever mentioned?

I think we see Thrawn on the bridge of the super hyperdrive machine. Is this on his way back to GFFA? Is the end of the Ahsoka series merely the return of Thrawn and ww don't see much else from him?

Presumably, the Ghost and/or our heroes will hitch a ride on the super hyperdrive machine to locate Ezra/Thrawn? They must therefore return? Or do they all get stuck in a GFFA from the GFFA?

I also have the feeling that some characters will have to stay there. Maybe this could be some kind of "sacrifice" Ahsoka will have to do in the end? Maybe a bit of a mirroring of Ezra's move. Like to get all heroes back safely she needs to stay "on the other side". That, by the way, could also mean potential future content with Ahsoka exploring Peridea; smart way to write her out of the classic Skywalker Saga storyline and to put her on her very own adventure.

I think Ezra/Ahsoka will use a Purgill somehow to return. Grogu suggests some means of communicating with them and I think Rebels may have too IIRC.

I just hope an image similar to riding a Sandworm isn't used, lol.

Can't help but wonder if they decided on the name of the planet, so that the phrase is reminiscent of the Road To Perdition.

The Star map recovered currently was created by some ancient mysterious people in the far past - so it’s possible that the route was in use at some point in the distant past, and probably pretty heavily in some way if it became mythology later.

Peridea could have a huge population, resources, etc, or connect to them in the rest of that Galaxy, which could have fueled a pre-historic empire or something that used to be big news and has now faded from memory; that would be handy for also making Thrawn a lurking threat if he can return to the Galaxy with a personal fiefdom back at Peridea through a limited pathway that can be treated like a bottleneck on either side - like the Dominion lurking in the Gamma Quadrant on the other side of the worm hole while fighting over the Alpha Quadrant in Star Trek: Deep Space 9.

It would be easier to make the scale of the adventure huge but keep it contained away from the rest of the GFFA if most of the action takes place in Peridea’s Galaxy, even if Thrawn or others can make the journey back to the GFFA sometimes.

…But here’s the thing about that end credits map that keeps on getting my interest - the map ends with 7 paths converging at Peridea, only centered around the one that takes off from where the Eye of Sion is being built, with the other 6 only emerging on the screen as Peridea comes into view.

I suspect there may be more pathways to Peridea.

We know you can depart from at least two planets to get there - the one the Eye of Sion is being built over, and Lothal. Yes, the purgills could have just caught a “connecting flight” to the planet that the map starts from, but it sure seems like they just made a b-line to Peridea.

    Fun fact:

The word galaxy itself comes from the Greek words "Gala - Axonas (άξονας από γάλα)", which means "an axis of milk".

As a professor of Astronomy for more than a decade, it has always bothered me when I have needed to say "The Milky Way Galaxy", because that translates to.... The Milky Way Milky Way. As opposed to the other random milky ways in our universe.

But the story behind the name is interesting, it comes from Greek mythology. According to that legend, Hera got jealous that Zeus was feeding young Hercules (who he had with a mortal, what a shock) and she spilled a gigantic jar of milk in her anger, which resulted in the birth of our galaxy. Another legend says that Hermes smuggled baby Hercules into Olympus so that he can feed from Hera's divine milk, and baby Hercules bit the nipple so hard that all of the milk splashed everywhere and gave birth to our galaxy. Other ancient civilizations have equally interesting myths and legends about the birth and the name of our galaxy, but I will always be choosing to believe that we all live on a planet surrounded and born from divine milk.

The New Rockstars breakdown suggests the ancient people might be the Rakata. I know Zahn originally intended the Noghri to be the Force-sensitive Sith species but LFL said no. Wouldn't be interesting if Filoni took this unused concept and had Thrawn come back with a few Rakatan body guards or entourage?

I wouldn't mind seeing Rakatans originating from the new galaxy, but I wonder if the species of aliens populating the new, far galaxy will in any way resemble the (mostly) humanoid denizens of the GFFA. Will there be humans? Will the alien designs be all new? I posted in another thread a theory that Yoda's species could have originated from the new galaxy, and that is why there are so few seen in the known galaxy (the same could be true for other, rare species of aliens) because the journey is so difficult to make. Perhaps it takes a Force user to make the journey between galaxies and that's why all of Yoda and Grogu's species are Force sensitive. Heck, all of the inhabitants in the new galaxy could be Force sensitive, or use a brand of magic like the Nightsisters, which this show seems to be focusing on.

Technology is another thing to think about. Does the new galaxy have starships resembling any thing like we have seen in Star Wars before? More advanced weapons?

A new galaxy really opens up so many new possibilities. It also allows new stories to be told without worrying about running afoul of the canon's continuity.

I sort of think the “ancient people” are the Nightsisters, or whatever group the nightsisters descended from.

You could justify about any status quo or familiar connections in this new Galaxy you wanted, given that the pathway was apparently open so long ago.

The species in both Galaxies could be completely different if they only interacted lightly, with no major migrations.

Some important species, like the Rakattans or Yoda’s species, might have arrive din the GFFA from Peridea, with their rarity or disappearance being tied to that.

Maybe there’s actually a lot of familiar species in Peridea’s Galaxy, because they got transplanted there, Stargate style.

I still think we’ll find that Thrawn and the Chimera have managed to conquer a fiefdom of some kind, even as wrecked as they were after the Battle of Lothal, mostly to explain how Thrawn is still alive and wearing his uniform years after being cut off from resources and able to contact Elsbeth… but I’ll confess that there *is* a possibility that they’ll go full Thrawn-apologist and reveal Peridea actually has new threats to deal with.

As for other leaks that people might not want to look at:

Skeleton Crew is likely to explore Peridea and its Galaxy in greater depth; if either Thrawn or some new threat has actually conquered an empire there that would threaten the larger Galaxy, that show will likely provide a better sense of its scale, details, and how our heroes should approach it.

You bring up something I hadn't thought about with Thrawn's uniform. Maybe it's a fake out from the trailer, and Thrawn won't be seen in the uniform until Morgan or others present him with a newly ironed one when they find him and/or bring him back from the new galaxy.
