Originally there was going to be more to the vision and they had to cut a lot. There was going to be her seeing Leia and Han leaving Ben with Luke when he was younger. Ben running away, as well as a very young Ben going to play with someone. My guess that the person probably is a young Poe since family connections there.

She's seen him in Visions up till that point. Leia would tell her more about him during the time she was at the base. I'm damn sure that she knows a lot more then we do as an audience.

I don't have a problem with love between cousins either, 1/10 of all marriages in the world are between cousins. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousin_marriage

But considering it's considered incest in the USA, I doubt they'd go there, and I wonder if Rey and Kylo are cousins, what they were thinking with the suggestive scenes.

For me, I would be fine with it, as i've had to accept a number of ships that couldn't happen do to them being ripped from where they were (Luke and mara) or been cut because of creators just wanting their thing to happen and not following what the chemistry on screen said or in the book. or having characters just killed for the reason that "too much like a certain chosen one" (farewell Anakin Solo, even though everyone was begging for your reprieve up until the very last minute).

Would I be sad if it didn't happen, sure, but I would accept what they gave us.

Which is a PERFECT jumping off point for Ben's redemption. You don't need Ben to be obsessed with Rey to be redeemed. Just have Snoke abandon him and pursue Rey as a potential successor to Kylo instead. Ben starting to see through Snoke's lies and betrayal, would be a smarter and MUCH simpler solution for Ben's redemption.

Kylo will either save Rey or Leia. I think that scene is from the future.

Book is better in regards to a Rey/Ben situation. Howl in the book is a selfish guy named Howell Jenkins, who while in college found a way to open a magic portal with his friend Ben Sullivan and the two became wizards in the world Sophie Hatter is from. Howell was pretty young when he made a contract with Calcifer the fire demon, whom he gave his heart to to let him survive, hinted at to be around 19 to 21 years old, and is now 27. Sophie is turning 19 but she's 18 at the start of the book. Sophie, who has a curse on her to look like an old woman, has to sort of teach Howl how to be a decent guy again, given that his friend Ben and the Prince from the kingdom have gone missing thanks to him flirting with and breaking the heart of the crazy witch of the waste.

Phantom of the opera: Christine Da'ae is actually in love with Raoul D'Changine while the Phantom is a very good antagonist. Some people see the one sided romance here, but it's actually a mystery with a lot of twists and turns. Ben Solo is in no way Erik, that is one character i would say he's no were close to mirroring in any way at all. It's because of Webbers musical we get the whole romance on it. The ending though is sweet, his actions show that there's more to Erik then just nutty fruitcake man.

Beauty and the Beast: Depends on which version you read. Earlier ones actually have it where there is no prisoner thing, and Beauty is free to roam around, as she originally came there for him to kill her over her father. So he let's her stay as a form of payment for replacing the rose she took. Captive sure, I guess you can play it that way, but it's mostly a story revolving around the how people see the outside and inside of people. By the end of the story half of Beauties family becomes monsters due to them stealing stuff that the Beast gave to her, and her coming back because she lost track of the time and now he's dieing due to being heart broken.

Labyrinth: Who boy. This has never been a case of Victim/Captor situation. Sarah goes there to save her brother after she asks for him to be taken away. Jareth had no intention of keeping her there in the first place, he wants her to love him, and she learns he has no power over her because she stepped up to be not so selfish. Basically if she had just walked away from the maze, she wouldn't have had to be in there in the first place. Of course Toby would be in trouble, but other then that, yeah she was free to go as she pleased if she so chose to turn her back on it. The follow up comic actually showed that he's more a captor of her, then she of him.

Obi-Wan Solo-Skywalker, excellent point there about Tales of the Earth Sea. There is a lot of pull from Ursala K.Le Guin in regard to the idea of redemption, Evil not being something easily solved and the use of Taoism in the series on how the view of the world and all things are connected. You can actually point to the fact that there's a lot that the Force has mirroring the magic in the Earthsea stories.

And that's fine, that's more then likely what they will do with Rey assisting as a voice of reason to him, Han's memories/spirit coming back to him and talking to him, and Leia and Luke both giving him the feeling that they will accept him back into the fold. I'm fine with that happening too. I'm fine with the idea that a romance can happen well after TFA for Rey and Ben Solo. or Rey and Finn, or Rey and Poe, or whoever the heck they want to pair her with ....so long as it's NOT LUKE I'm good with however they want to tell that story.

For me, any Romance would come after with Ben Solo, anything before would be friendship, challenges, rivalry, understanding and Compassion in the form of the two dealing with their issues with each other and with the force and everything between. both have a hell of a lot of growing to do before I can see either in a full on Relationship with anyone.

Good, it gets really bad in that she uses her husband, injures her child and then offs herself when the lover gets freaked out by her and he's used up her money. It's a really really messy book that people find deep. It's not.

Glad I'm not alone in that aspect. Maybe given the situation with Downton abby and a few other series that seem to have that going on, they may be taking a caculated Risk, in that they figure that people will not think about it as much seeing as they grew up as strangers over being together as kids.

I just look at it for simplification. Rather than cutting back and forth between reaction shots of Han and Finn, its easier to have Kylo carrying her so Han can see Kylo and Finn can see Rey being carried by Kylo. Finn essentially sees the source of his courage and fear in one shot.

The Earthsea books are terrific. It's a shame that they are almost forgotten by younger generations. They are much much better than Harry Potter, etc. and Ursula Le Guin is a much much more talented and leagues ahead of J.K Rowling and many others...
The Earthsea books are terrific and the mythology there about light and dark and good and evil I'm sure must have influenced ideas about the Force.
The parallels are there without doubt.

As to the story we have at hand it just strikes me how many parallels there are with the Ghibli rendition (which is a very very loose retelling and mixing up of at least 3 of the Earthsea books) in "Tales from Earthsea".
I think in the case of Prince Arren's murder of his father (under the spell of an evil wizard), taking a magic sword, a girl with special powers, the dark (Cob) and the light wizard (Ged) , the idea of bringing balance, etc, etc. Why do I have the feeling this is so similar on so many levels...

Something I'd like to bring up in regard to at least Ben Solo and how he fell to the dark. I'm sure some of you have heard of Kyp Durron, the grey Jedi master of the EU. So I was looking over his story arc over the years and there's a lot of things that are very much alike to Ben in regard to how he sees Han and maybe how Snoke got him under his sway.

So for Kyp's story you have to understand that he was an angry teen who met Han and Chewie when they got thrown into trouble with the imperials on a planet where they had Empire prisoners who were mining for, well, drugs. Han makes friends with the force senstive Kyp who's parents were rebel allience activist. His brother was taken to join the Storm troopers. So Kyp has a lot on his shoulders.

-Han becomes a father figure to Kyp and someone he really trusts.
-Kyp is very strong in the force, when Luke was looking into his mind, he threw him with the force ala Ben throwing Rey not meaning too.
-Later on kyp is taken to Luke, away from the Fun he was having with Han, when he realized that his powers were starting to become harder for him to control.
-Prior to Kyps arrival another student is mysteriously killed and so when Kyp comes he brings some revitalization to the other members of the group.
-Kyp is very fast at learning and winds up needing Luke to teach him because he grasps things very quick.
-Kyp becomes with drawn and not social after a while, though others try to become friends with him.
-Kyp, due to being so quick to get things, takes time to go exploring the temple and the jungles on Yarvin 4. (We know there was a temple in the vision)
-Kyp's powers and skill are growing so quickly that Luke's even having a hard time coping with how quickly Kyp was learning and what more to teach him.
-So at one point the students are doing a lesson in lifting things, and Kyp does it easily that all the other students give up.
-Luke came to watch Kyp, and saw he was extending his powers more then anyone else, which was a cause for some concern.
-Kyp wanted more lessons from Luke, but Luke told him to meditate on what he had learned and to try to focus on honing them rather then just expanding them.
-Kyp feels that Luke is limiting and Constraining his ablities.

This whole thing there sounds like how Ben and Luke's situation at the Jedi dojo could have went. Ben, given he's related to Luke and Leia, could be very strong in the force and always eager to learn, possibly upset other users who wanted to give up because they couldn't be as good as him. Luke tried to get him to hone his skills but Ben felt like his Uncle was just trying to slow him down.

It get's better in regard to how this story by itself could maybe mirror what happened to Ben and why I really do think they are mining the EU for ideas.

-So one night Kyp goes and extends his meditating powers out over the temple
-He's surprised at how much power he can manipulate and starts feeling around the place
-Just then as he's exploring with his mind, Kyp feels a ghost show up in his chamber
-This ghost tells Kyp that he could help him unlock his potential and show him things that Luke won't

The following is the dialogue between Exar Kun and Kyp from the novel:

    Kyp: "Who are you?"
Exar: "I could be your teacher. I could show you many things that even your Master Skywalker does not comprehend."
    Kyp: "What things?"
Exar:"I could show you techniques that were lost thousands of years ago, secret rites and hidden doorways of power that no weak Jedi Master like Skywalker dares to touch. But you are strong, Kyp Durron. Do you dare to learn?"
Kyp: "I'm not afraid to learn. But you have to tell me your name. I won't learn from a man who is afraid to identify himself."
Exar: "I was the greatest Dark Lord of the Sith. I am Exar Kun."
    ―Kyp Durron and Exar Kun[src]

This is an easy thing to have play out for Ben and Snoke:

    Ben: Who are you?
Snoke: Someone who can teach you many things young Solo.
Ben: I've never seen you before...
Snoke: But you've heard my voice calling to you in your mind...
Ben: Yes, I have. But why are you here? Who are you?
Snoke: I am many things, but to you I can be your teacher.
Ben: Teacher, I already have a teacher, I don't need another one.
Snoke: Ah, yes, your Uncle Luke Skywalker, the man that told you that you need to limit what you do, the man that won't show you things you need to learn to protect your mother.
    Ben: .....
Snoke: I can see it in you, young solo, you have a great power and skill. But you're being held back by him. I can show you many things that even your Master, your Uncle, can't understand. Things, your grandfather knew...
Ben: You know of such things?
Snoke: I know of many things, I knew your grandfather...I can teach you techniques that were from long ago, rites and doorways to skills that no weak Jedi would dare to touch.
    Ben:....
Snoke: But you, young Solo, are strong, like your grandfather. You could be like your grandfather, stand up to the republic, protect your mother, your family, from them, those that question her, and hurt her, where your father can not.
Snoke: Do you dare to learn?

If it's Snoke as Vader's ghost the ending can easily be,

Ben: I am not afraid to learn, Grandfather, show me this man that can teach me to be stronger.
Snoke: Oh, you will be afraid, you will.

Later on when Kyp was using a super weapon against the imperials theres a moment when, like Ben he's dealing with Han where he's trying to delay Kyp and get him to re think his actions, only Kyp finds out Han was trying to delay him and tries to kill him, but Luke and his students defeated Kun in the temple and caused Kyp to be de possessed.

If LFL takes this and uses it with Ben, it could be easy to see how Snoke could have gotten to him and pulled him to him. Given the whole situation I can see Rey playing the role of Han, reminding him of why he's gone the wrong way, that it's not too late for him and that both Leia, Luke, and herself, will forgive him for what he did and will be there to help him.

They could have just had the stormies dragging Rey behind Kylo- still in the same shot. They could of had Rey still awake and yelling for Finn- now that wouldn't be misinterpreted I bet.

Completely agree..... if they intend to take the path of a Rey and Kylo Ren relationship, it should be something that gradually grows over time.... in my opinion, it is the thrill of the anticipation, some unexpected moments and the subtle clues that makes it all the more interesting.....

But the strange thing though is the carry regarding it. Normally you would think they would just have him carry her over his shoulder like a fireman, have the storm troopers carry her, etc. Yet we do the same carry that is being done not only by famous monsters like

    Frankenstein
    [IMG]

    The Mummy:

    The Wolfman:

The Creature from the Black Lagoon:

Dracula has it usually in every movie he's featured in:

(By the way that's Christoper Lee, count Dooku, and anyone saying Dooku couldn't have been hot when he was younger, hasn't seen enough young Christoper Lee.)

Even King Kong got in on this
    [IMG]

The thing about this is that most of these come from Universal monster pictures, and most of those movies had a huge love story in the center of the movie around the monster falling for one woman who he finds beautiful. Or in the case of the Wolfman it was a tragic love story between Larry and his fiance who winds up being his final target, but he can't kill her, and tells his father to kill him. Or more so in the case of the mummy where he returns from the dead after his love has died and is reincarnated in the form of a young woman, or so he thinks, until a few movies later when he finds her again and she willingly dies with him.

And before anyone points out, yes I know they're monsters, they're the bad guys and in most cases it's where it's one sided, see the connection there as well. On top of that in a lot of cases, yes they die, but the difference here is while Kylo Ren is a monster, Ben Solo is more then likely not.

Then there's the other factor that Star Wars likes connecting with very, very classic and well known moments in movies to indicate romance.

Rhett Butler and Scarlett's famous bridal carry that pretty much is played up in many many movies later

or an Officer and a Gentleman is another one:

Again the idea of the movement is to convey something romantic or slightly sexual in the case of the vampires as there's usually more of a lust story coming from there.

As I said above the Bridal carry is used as a short hand for Viewers that something is going on here. Not just that it's easy to have the actor carry this. And again, Star Wars is known for using romantic images to convey the story on their posters. I mean I'm sure most of you remember that Gone With the Wind, one of the most popular love stories in cinema was used to imply Han and Leia in Empire Strikes back.

    This:

    Became This:

So arguing that the bridal carry in the least has no meaning is not right because it has two meanings. It's connected to the idea of the universal monster, complete with Finn running after as the heroes would do when they were around at the time the lady got taken, and it's connected to romance that are in movies, see the two images as per above. This wasn't just to have Rey in the scene along with Han and Finn, this was a deliberate choice to have her carried in this way to convey something to the audience that knows the old movies that Star Wars draws inspirations from.

I wonder if they'll explore Ben Solo's character from the perspective of a young person's struggle with being in the shadow of what is possibly the most successful and famous family in the galaxy...his heritage could make him a narcissist, but it could also be him trying find an identity for himself.....

I think this could play out in two ways-
    - He'll train Kylo Ren as a back up but separately keep trying to get Rey to the dark side through visions/dreams etc., independent of Kylo.
    - He'll use Kylo as bait by influencing him to reach out to Rey.
