OMG, having an ex that sounds like your future grandson is making my head spin! That's like precognitive incest or something!

 

Although I think Adam Driver is a good looking guy, he isn't the generic "hot" guy. He's unusual features. The psychology video on him describe him as pale, tall and lanky, yet even they picked up on Reylo.
Kylo Ren is so desperate to speak to Rey even when she slashes his face. Amazing!

Annakin, hayden christenson always looked bog eyed too me. They were supposed to be lovers, padame looked like she pitying Annakin. Hopefully whatever ship they go with, it will be a lot more entertaining. We have a fine set of actors here who do actually care about the franchise.

I love ROTS, I'm a bit weird and thought it was romantic how Anakin's fall was because of his obsession with Padme, I mean surely during the time of OT nobody would think that Darth Vader's descent to the dark was because of a woman. The reversal of that story with his grandson would be a dream come true for me! Sometimes I think this thread is spoiling me, because there are so many excellent theories and predictions that when it'll come to reality I'm afraid to be disappointed.

 

The scar is definitely a plus.. a lot of ladies find it sexy, and men think it macho. But what it makes more interesting is the story and symbolism behind it.

Adam Driver is not your typical Hollywood pretty boy, and all the better for it!

I've nothing against them. Heck, Leonardo Dicaprio matured into a damn fine actor, and he wasn't bad to begin with! But personally, I've always had an eye for the quirky looking guys. I know some disagree (can't please everybody!) but there's something super sexy about Adam. Well, there's lots of things about him. His acting talent is something else, I see big things for him acting-wise, and I could listen to him talk all day long.

But I agree with vaderito it is much more than his looks (and some people were vocal about him being "ugly" before the scar). Kylo/Ben is such a fascinating character, you want to spend more time with him. How his connection with Rey will play out, we don't yet know, but TFA was 100% more interesting when they were together on screen. My actual expectations for romantic interaction between them is low, especially in Ep 8, but a girl can dream!

 

Rey marked her territory very well, very well indeed...its a very male thing to do, but role reversal is very common with these two...

I'm the same actually, I dunno though when I seen the film a second time I was thinking "ok what's going on here" and even before I thought about a backwards Anakin and Padme story, I just knew Kylo Ren was possibly obsessed with Rey. I said this on 9gag a week after and my comment got over 300 likes, so I wasn't the only one who saw this. He's basically Anakin but worse because he's been damaged already and his psychology will be more clingy I think and worse than Anakin.
I remember, a few years back before I met my SO, I went out on a date with this guy who was 10 years older than me. During the date he got very personal, and told me about his childhood and growing up. A lot of it was really stuff you wouldn't say on a first date. I sympathized with him because I didn't want to be rude, I didn't want to tell him that what he was doing wasn't ok. Plus he was actually a nice guy.
He kept saying that no one ever listened to him before that everyone was always against him and I was amazing because I was so nice.
As the date came to an end at about 1am, he whispered in my ear before I got into a taxi "I'm going to marry you some day". Naturally I hopped in the taxi and told the driver to STEP ON IT NOW!!!!!!!!!
He sent me loads of messages on fb saying he was in love with me. I phoned him the next day and said I didn't want to see him again. I was only 22 so I was sorta confused at the time and didn't know what to do. I should have left the date when he started getting weird.

Two years into my now relationship (4 years now) , this guy was still messaging me in some way or another. Just goes to show you how some people are damaged psychologically and cling to someone they barely know for support.

This is a movie though. However Kylo Ren strikes me as a clinger. A strong clinger!!!!

You know, he no longer needs even a half-mask (like the Phantom of the Opera) to show his divided nature. Rey did it for him.

ETA: The fan art makes me reflect even more on how vicious it is to do this to a person's face. Damn, Rey . . . I know he's a bad guy, but still . . .

 

Ha,ha, well spotted and well whispered. You guys remember that before that happens, she runs down the stairs like Cinderella (it's a very specific stairs run that Princesses do, always shot from above) and then spots the Prince's carriage. So Ia lways whisper "here comes the prince" though it turned out that Kylo/Ben's the Princess of the trilogy and Rey's the Hero/Prince.

Role reversal is one of the best things about Reylo and antis are missing out on something truly special by refusing to acknowledge it.

Kessel89 That would be an amazing twist, if she was a Palpatine by blood and Kylo knelt before her unknowingly. Of course, revealing her as any OT character related turns her from independently awesome to "because _________ blood". But this option is at least so out there it's actually better than safe ones (Skywalker, etc).

Someone mentioned that Padme and Ani were more like mother and son. Makes sense because he was mama's boy so naturally gravitated to "mother" type - older than he, physically similar (dark eyed brunette), similar temper (kind, patient, likes to indulge him).

Leia grew up with Bail Organa (since Breha died when Leia was young...unless ROTJ line was about Padme) so she was naturally drawn to "father" type - older than she, physically similar (tall, handsome, strong...speaking of tall, Bail and Ben are 6'3" even though Bail is not Ben's natural grandfather), likely similar temper but we haven't seen much of Bail anyway.

Ben had messed up childhood so he gravitates towards "childlike" type - luminous innocence - combined with "mother" type (physically similar brunette, dark eyes, tiny at least compared to him, has him under control) .

And he still wanted to say something. But what? I think that viciousness is the point. She was quite surprised with herself that she went on Kylo like he did on Finn. They didn't show those two fights for nothing. One reason, to show how Kylo treats Rey differently and, another reason, to show that Rey can be just as vicious as Kylo. That right there is bridging the gap between them.

 

I was going to bring up this exact same thing.....I can't obviously post images from TFA for now, but Kylo never kneels before Snoke...but he does kneel before one person- Rey. And I came across this image from the OT which reminded me of how Kylo was kneeling before Rey (even the room looks a bit similar to the interrogation room).....



And it would be interesting if the interrogation scene is the reverse of the scene in Revenge of the Sith where the Skywalker is on the reclining device and the Papatine standing nearby...

There's a strong chemistry between the actors (the same can be said for any pair of actors in the new batch of SW heroes), no doubt that had something to do with their casting. But what's going on between their characters is the part truly worth speculating about, imo.

rowan_greenleaf Reylo fanart and young Ben Solo fanart are absolutely killing it. If the sequels had half as good scenes as depicted in those fanarts we are in for a treat. That Force bond fanart is incredible. So freakin emotional.

 

I saw this a few pages back (this thread moves really fast!!!)..... I think Kylo and Rey should kiss in episode 8...but in a force vision or dream type scenario....so when they meet in the real world, they both feel awkward and confused....

 

Yes, awesome visuals and what a twist that would be for Rey... Coming from that kind of background would definitely lead to some horrible conflict and shock for her; perhaps similar to how Leia must have felt when she found out Vader was her biological father. It would also add so much to the Rey and Kylo dynamic too, as we all know...

I know that at first blush, making Rey be descended from Palps would potentially require a lot of twisted storytelling and would probably not be very satisfying to the majority of the Rey Skywalker fans, but if it was told well, it could potentially be an amazing story.

panki That would be fantastic. Force Bond kiss and intimacy (they can do anything through the Force) in VIII would be great cause antis can claim that FB kiss isn't a real thing while Reylos get more Reylo passion.

yes Mana and he is willingly submissive which is why their dynamics is so good. Nobody forced him to kneel. He did it because he wanted to. It really deconstructs submissiveness which is usually looked down upon. But here, you have this guy who's a badass and a royalty and he kneels in owe of a beautiful scavenger. he's so in owe that he feels like kneeling. That's empowering. This is a high romance so, yeah, we who see it are getting some much joy from this ship.

 

I thought the same too, only she sees two people kissing or embracing and she isn't sure who they are.

I love this idea! We should definitely get a kiss in episode VIII. It's tradition! But I don't see Rey and Ren getting close enough to make out in episode VIII in a convincing way. The Force bond or a dream sequence would be a great way to bridge that gap.

Who do you guys think should initiate? I would like to maintain the trend of subversion of roles, therefore I think it should be Rey. Thoughts?

vaderito: fully agree, the fanart has been excellent, especially the young Ben Solo art. I think maybe it can even help people who don't have compassion for Kylo Ren because they can't picture him as a young boy. To me he's still very much that same person, he's frozen in his development. Doesn't excuse what he's doing, but compassion isn't about making excuses.

It would be an amazing story....one Palpatine took a Skywalker to the dark side, while another brings a Skywalker back to the light.....and Emperor Palpatine was also Vader's teacher....so it is interesting that Kylo offered to be Rey's teacher.....again a reverse of the past events.
