ST The Romantic Future of Kylo Ren and Rey

I think very few people on here have said that Rey wants Kylo currently, but an embrace from behind is definitely some incriminating evidence to the villainous crush many of us have been saying Kylo has developed.

And the concept art just drips with the old monster holding the heroine trope. The monster that usually wanted to take the heroine away to keep her for himself. If it wasn't for TFA, you could replace the Phantom and Christine in there. That is what we are reacting to.

I was thinking also, another point that is very interesting is that Kylo offers her to be his teacher, but doesn't say anything about the "dark side", aka Vader type line in ESB or ROTJ...i wonder why he offered it that way and not another......(thinks too much...). I mean if he wanted her to be trained by Snoke (as snoke asked him to bring her to him), would he have said it that way? My guess is that he had no intentions of doing that, which is all the more strange....

Rach Thanks for posting the Girls video. I've never watched that show but maybe I'll give it a try. I laughed my ass off!

As for the scene where Kylo shows his face for the first time, there was a buzz in the theater and my friend said, wow he's handsome! When we came out of the theater, she told me that Star Wars villains were terribly ugly so she was pleasantly shocked to see a young and rather handsome Kylo Ren. On the next day we talked again about the movie and she told me it seemed this time they wanted to show a different type of villain, someone less robotic, more human, even young and attractive so she thinks Kylo can have an interesting interaction with Rey in the next movie.

 

I'm in the "Rey and Kylo are cousins" camp.

 

But remember this is the same series where Padme still loved Anakin even after he became Darth Vader and committed crimes that were just as bad if not worse than the ones that Kylo Ren committed.

People in this thread realize the possibility of them being related. The "what-if" part of the conversation is going on the assumption that they are not related.

 

I thought Anakin was good looking in ROTS but of course he got messed up but good. They really had no choice since we knew how Vader ends up. He also had a scar on his face earlier, same side as Kylo. And his is also from a female.

 

If they do the same thing as Anakin like transforming-Kylo-in-a-monster, I'll die!!! 1) Because he's just SO hot 2) Because it's already been done, I mean, who in his sane mind will battle over a freakin lava-pit!!! I know these things because I live in a country where they are like 2000 volcanoes!! Those things aren't made for battling near them...just get out of the way...
BUT I fully think that we'll have a very changed Kylo in ep. 8, although I am pretty sure he'll have a more mature look, and we'll see the scar - it may give him a darker badass look...maybe with facial hair, maybe not...And I am over confident we'll see right away that he wants to find "that girl" like in an obsessive matter!!!

Perfect point! Kylo is HOT! I hope they don't ruin his story by making him simply bad, and without a romance with Rey.

Who said they were cousins? fans? Then we can go on speculating and trying to figure out what will happen in the next movie, right?

 

Two people so strong with the Force, getting together.... Do you realise what this means? How powerful their union could be?? What that could do to the universe...?? Their bond could move mountains, push back rivers and seas, block out the sun... We have yet to see anything like this (canonically).

 

It would be FASCINATING. I really would love for them to go with this route. And imagine how strong their lineage would be if Rey were a Kenobi or related to some other previous Jedi that maybe escaped order 66...

 

Rey Kenobi would be perfect for this storyline! Rey does hear Obi-Wan's voice stronger than any other during her vision... Of course, she would need to be Obi-Wan's granddaughter for the timings to work, but that's not exactly a problem, right? Obi-Wan's daughter could even appear as a major player in VIII or IX.

 

Yeah, because who needs romance. Eugenics, that's what Star Wars is all about.

But all of those poses feature the woman looking comfortable or loving towards he who is embracing her. That concept art she looks horrified, violated, defeated, and numb. Kylo may have an infatuation with her looking at that image, but it looks more like something from a horror movie. Like the bogey man's got you and you can do nothing about it. I'm not you'd call "progressive", but there's zero indication that Rey feels anything but disgust and hate for Kylo.

The problem for me is not really with Ren's infatuation with Rey, which while perhaps a little cliched does sort of make sense - she's pretty, strong in the force etc., gives him a challenge - but there is no real reason for Rey to WANT to redeem/love Ren, like, at all. He tortured her, nearly killed her best friend, actually did kill a personal hero of hers and is generally far, far from stable. His offer to teach her the ways of the Force was a not all that subtle attempt to redefine himself as her Master, not any kind of equal. And at this point, she has no reason to believe Ren has any potential or desire for redemption - neither do we, except having seen Vader do something similar.

I want to believe that they've gone through making Rey into an active, striking protagonist (who just so happens to be female) with a more satisfying end game than falling for a psychotic, immature lunatic simply because he's good-looking. That was lame when Padme did it, we certainly don't need another version of that quote-unquote 'romance.'

 

Rach, I think Ren doesn't mention the Dark Side to Rey for the same reason the devil -- if he exists -- isn't a terrifying figure with horns and a hayfork. Where would the seduction be in that? If evil identifies itself as evil, it has no pull. Of course, it's kind of a moot point by then, since Ren has just killed his father in cold blood in front of Rey. He's kind of wasting his time at that point, IMO.
