Alright, a friend of mine just mention something that I think it's kinda good while I rambling about Reylo to her, I knows we have been compared Reylo with POTO, Hades & Persephone, Dracula, etc. But does anyone notice that the attraction Kylo feels for Rey, at least for now, kind of similar to Jareth the Goblin King toward Sarah. Kylo and Jareth both being drawn to Rey and Sarah because there's something interesting that they saw in the girls.Jareth and Kylo at first both looked down on Rey & Sarah which led to their defeated. The interrogation scene in TFA and the Ballroom in Labyrinth both have this "special moment". Jareth at the end, offered Sarah to stay and he will give her anything she wanted, Kylo offered to be Rey's teacher to shows her the Power of the Force. Not to mention, Sarah and Rey also have this dangerous attracted to Kylo/ Jareth, while they're supposedly not to but can't help it.

Having bad boy Ben become redeemed through a romance with Rey may be veering a bit too close to "Draco in Leather Pants" type territory for comfort.

I have tried to analyze these songs (all in good fun as I'm sure they're aren't supposed to be taken literally), but I don't have the time to dedicate to it in a way that I feel would be productive. I would love to hear others' opinions on them though. :)

I definitely agree with you about Kylo's songs...they don't seem to indicate full on evil, they seemed angry, but also anguished. (For evil type songs, look at Darth Maul's playlist). There are a couple of Kylo playlist songs that really feel like they could be about Rey ("A Cross and a Girl Named Blessed" and "The Answer"). "The Answer" is an extremely odd choice for Kylo because it's all about wanting a girl and it's definitely not the kind of song meant for cousins. Rey's songs are all over the place, lots of pop and girl power songs. The one song that really feels "Reylo" is "Bloodstream." The song "Blue Jeans" does as well.

I did note that Luke's playlist is interesting/odd. He's got a song called "Left Hand Free" (lol)...There are some unusual ones, I don't know what to make of the one called "Pay Them No Mind."

There has been a lot of discussion over the last few pages regarding Rey's parents.....I think they've purposely peppered all sorts of clues (and red herrings) regarding Rey's parentage just to keep us guessing till episode 9... I'm sure a couple of candidates will be eliminated along the way by episode 8 but the big reveal will be episode 9.

If I had to pick a preference, I would say a Kenobi descendant got into the hands of a Palpatine/Misc. dark force user who used Sith alchemy/genetic engineering to produce a child who had both light and dark side qualities (or maybe a Palpatine descendant fell in love with a Kenobi descendant...stranger things have happened in the SW universe)... this would perfectly complement Kylo's own balance of dark and light side force potential. If they are going to bring more EU into canon, the Shan family as Darkspellmaster suggested, would be perfect since a lot of them were grey jedi.

But after reading all the theories out there, I thought I would try and list out the reasons for a person being/not being a potential parent/grandparent of Rey (The lawyer in me cannot help making a case for each one).. I'll also bring in possible EU storylines that could become canon.....

Geminiwankenobi made a wonderful list of why she could be a Kenobi so I'll re-post it at the end of this post and I'll try to deal with other characters.

    Luke
We have no idea what he did in the years between the battle of Endor and his disappearance after the destruction of his new order.I personally don't think he would have had the time to have a relationship if he were re-building the order, collecting materials and mentoring students. I can understand the Mark Hamill statements about Luke possibly being gay...maybe Luke had no love life so one can interpret his preferences any way one likes.

In the EU, Luke did marry and have a child. But in canon we don't know if he had any relationship except for his being close to a Devaronian girl named Farnay in the book Weapon of a Jedi. She is a little younger than him (he is barely 21 and she is in her late teens) and when they first meet and it is hinted that Luke set up the new Jedi order at Devaron and Farnay grew up to be a very capable person. Even if Luke did marry Farnay, their children according to SW canon would be hybrids (and have alien features) and not human (Rey is specifically mentioned as human).

    [IMG] Farnay

    Palpatine
Palpatine has a few reasons based on canon and the EU for being Rey's grandparent.

    1. The snarling and thrusting style of fighting. He also has a similar lightsaber grip as Rey.
    [IMG] Palpatine

    http://www.justfourgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/Rey-1-1.gif Rey

Rey's expression as she charges Kylo in the above link is near identical to Palpatine.

    2. Palpatine has been Emperor of the whole galaxy. Even if the empire fell, he was Emperor at one point in time so "Rey" being a ruler could apply to her...especially if the FO find out she is a descendant of the emperor, the former imperials would see her as important.

Even if we don't accept this argument of emperor, let us look at Palpatine's origins. Naboo doesn't have royalty as the ruler is elected. However, they have noble families and Palpatine belongs to one. So even if he isn't a king by birth, he has noble blood.

    3. In the EU, Palpatine did have a son and a grandson named Ken. His mother was a jedi princess who died when the grandson was very young so he was hidden away for his own safety. Like Rey, he liked mechanical stuff, had crazy force powers including mind control and thought reading, understood droids etc... He decides to follow the path of his mother, saves the new republic instead of craving power, chooses anonymity and becomes Luke's student. (This is the part I hope they bring this into canon and make the mother a Kenobi instead of an unknown princess)

    [IMG] Ken Palpatine

    4. Palpatine could read thoughts and influence minds (Palpatine influenced the minds of even powerful jedi like members of the Jedi council in the PT)... a power Rey picked up really fast.

    5. Palpatine was good at sith alchemy and into genetic experiments. Sith alchemy can be used to create life. He also had laboratories all over the galaxy and in the unknown regions. Jakku is the last point before heading to the unknown regions and also had a laboratory. So Rey could easily be the result of a genetic experiment and the people she thought were her family could have been scientists.

    6. He has an british accent...if we are giving credence to the accent theory.

    Lord Dooku

    1. Lord Dooku is the count of Serenno. Serenno again has no single ruler but by a group of ruling houses, and Dooku's family was one...so again the "Rey" being a lost ruler could apply here as well.

    2. There are a couple of easter egg references to Count Dooku in Maz's basement where Rey finds the lightsaber. One is a bust of a bearded man and the other is a silver antique looking shield. The shield is possibly one used by clone stormtroopers and the bust is the one of Lord Dooku from the jedi library.

    [IMG] Dooku and Jocasta Nu

    3. The lady in the image above is Jocasta Nu, librarian at the jedi temple. It is hinted that Lord Dooku and she had a relationship in a deleted scene from Attack of the Clones. It is possible they had children. Dooku also had another love interest in the EU and killed her husband to marry her. It is implied that her son is actually his child. Since Dooku left the jedi order, it is possible he had relationships with women and had children. (In the EU, Vader persecuted the relatives of Dooku and forced them to kill their own fathers to show loyalty....so an interesting parallel to Ben's life)

    4. Dooku was Yoda's padawan (Yoda taught most younglings but none of them were his padawans) and Qui Gon Jinn's master. Yoda did appear in Rey's force vision. Originally Frank Oz had recorded a lot of dialogue for the force vision but it was left out not to give away spoilers. It is possible that Yoda also spoke to Rey directly in the vision and that could connect her to Count Dooku as well.

    5. Count Dooku was a powerful jedi and a powerful sith. He also studied sith alchemy and was involved in the clone wars (he was on the other side but Palpatine and he planned the whole thing) so Rey could again be the result of a science experiment.

    6. In the EU, Dooku's grand nephew Bron Dooku was Leia's friend and her adopted father saved his life. So it would make Rey feel close to Leia and her family if she were a descendant.
    [IMG] Bron Dooku

    7. He also has an british accent...if we are giving credence to the accent theory.

    Ezra Bridger
As I was listing potential parents and looking up images to add to this post, it struck me that the one person in canon with the most in common with Rey is Ezra (I wont go into his powers that Rey hasn't displayed as yet such as telekinesis)... now it could just be a coincidence, but let me list them out anyway....

    1. Ezra was separated from his parents at a very young age.He spends a lot of time searching for his parents. They die before he can find them.

    2. He spends many years alone (Daisy did say being solitary is they key) and having to fend for himself.

    3. He supports himself through salvaging mechanical parts.

    4. He is also fascinated by helmets. (He steals an imperial pilot's helmet)

    [IMG] Ezra

    5. He is a powerful force user and can control minds. He does it unconsciously at first when he robs an imperial pilot. He later develops abilities to control the minds of animals to help the rebels escape from the imperials.

    6. He also gets captured by the imperials but escapes...he is also very good at sneaking around ships. In the Breaking Ranks Episode, he pretends to be an imperial to steal an imperial decoder where he sneaks around in a manner similar to Rey. (He is helped by Zare Leonis an imperial cadet.... I have a theory that either Zare or his FS sister Dhara could be related to Finn)

    7. A lightsaber calls to him as well exactly in the way Rey is called by Annakin's lightsaber. It belongs to his future master Kanan Jarrus.

    8. His first active interaction with the force is a holocron that opens revealing a message by Obiwan Kenobi.

    [IMG]Obiwan Holocron

    9. He has force visions where, like Rey, he sees the past, present and future. The people in his vision even speak to him (yoda, the inquisitor) and none of them are related to him. I got interested in whether only relatives can speak to a person in a force vision and in SW canon, I have yet to see a relative address a person in a force vision.(It doesn't discount Obiwan as a relative...it just makes the evidence less strong)
Yoda has visions where Palpatine talks to him.
Kanan has visions where he interacts and fights with an inquisitor.
Ezra has visions where yoda and the grand inquisitor speak to him.

    10. Ezra has an inclination to the dark side as well. It has been repeatedly indicated in SW Rebels....I am waiting for the episode where he force chokes the seventh sister.

    11. There is hints of a romance between Ezra and Sabine. Since the jedi order has fallen, nothing prevents Ezra from having a relationship and children.

    12. He understands droid just like Rey.

    13. He is very compassionate and protective of his newfound family of rebels..not unlike Rey towards her newfound family.

    14. Check out how he holds his lightsaber....

    [IMG] Ezra

    [IMG] Rey

    Lord Cronal/One of Palpatine's Advisors/Cylo-V/Misc Dark force User/Snoke?

I think Lord Cronal and Snoke are the same but I'll treat them as separate.

    1. A lot of Palpatine's advisors were into genetic experiments and dark force worship. Cylo-V and his predecessors were trying to create eternal life through switching consciousness through bodies and creating artificial force users.

    2. Darth Jedi and sith were not bound by the jedi law of not marrying or entering into relationships, so Rey could be any dark force user's child. Lord Cronal had a dark jedi daughter named Sariss who had several relationships so she could have had a child.

    3. In the EU, Lord Cronal was still alive when the empire fell and was hidden away in the Outer Rim since he knew beforehand that the empire would fall. He was also into sith alchemy and genetic experiments.

    4. Lord Cronal has similar powers to Rey including reading thoughts and controlling minds.

    5. Snoke can also read thoughts. In the TFA novel, he tells Kylo that he has compassion for Rey.

    Obiwan Kenobi

Now for Obiwan, I'll post an earlier message which is really beautifully written....

Actually, it would be much closer to Snape's redemption through love for Lily, if we're talking Harry Potter.

AMEN to the bolded. Can I just say, I know that Harrison Ford is in his 70s and movie magic (lighting, make-up etc.) can do a lot, but during TFA there were moments when I looked at Han and thought, gosh you're (still) hot. It's that lopsided grin, I swear :)

My reaction to ESB was exactly the same. It is by far the pinnacle of the series, just a consistenly great movie through and through. I love a great many things about TFA but I could also write a tome on things that annoyed/disappointed me.

And yeah I pretty much couldn't stand the smug joyless Jedi in the prequels, except for Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. To the point where I almost rooted for Palpatine in RotS, simply because he was almost the only character in the film with any real charisma or sense of fun. I felt like meeting the Jedi in the prequels was like seeing Zion in the Matrix sequels: before the films = cool we'll get to go to Zion/see more Jedi! After the films = man I really couldn't give a **** about any of these people.

I might have mentioned it before, but I do find it really surprising how little speculation on the possible romantic Ren/Rey angle I've seen outside of this forum - even the one-sided scenario that doesn't need Rey to reciprocate any feelings, which perhaps understandably is what makes people feel uncomfortable with Reylo in general. When you get down to it, Ren and Rey in TFA is pretty much "boy meets girl", the oldest scenario there is, that you'd think automatically suggest obvious developments.

Great exalmples panki.I was also struck by how much Ezra reminded me of Rey.He's also like to work alone,is ready to go do anything to protect his friends and at the beggining beloved that the crew wouldn't come back to save him.Rey also likes to work alone,is ready to risk everything to protect her friends and was very touched by the fact that Finn came back for her since she probably beloved he wouldn't.Also the first two seasons of Rebels Ezar wanted to find out whether his parents were alive and Rey was waiting for her family to come back for her so them being reunited/ fining their parents is very important to them.I swear it's like Rey is a female version of Ezra.I also think it's not a conceive that a similar scene in TFA with the lgothsaver calling to Rey also happened on Rebels with Ezra. And then there's the way Leia quickly bonded with Rey which reminded me of tehe bound she shared with Ezra for ten short time she knew him.

Thanks BrehaSolo..... The funny thing is that I wasn't even planning to write about Ezra but whenever I was searching for a picture or video for the other prospective relatives, I kept getting Ezra's image as well....so I felt I had to look further into it and it turned out, as you very rightly said...Rey is a female version of Ezra. Thanks for the extra point about both waiting for their family to return for them and Leia sharing an emotional moment of bonding both with Ezra (when Ezra lost his parents) and Rey (when Leia lost her husband and son)...it is an interesting parallel.... :)

Hmm, well thats a bit worrying. Farnay.

One of the early versions of Kira looks a lot like Farnay, whats more worrying is that she's right at the end of the book alongside Kylo, like after the contents pages, is that a hint?, She has these markings on her head like Farnay and the curly hair at the front..but then if Luke had her so early, Rey would be much older right? God I hope it was just a dismissed idea. the title is "Alt Kira" so its an alternative version

God I swear if the go this direction with her it will be the most boring, cliche story ever. And I will never forgive jj for purposefully writing so much sexual subtext into the interrogation scene(he even said he did this on purpose.) if that's his cousin, that is sick.

This is great, thanks for compiling all of these!

Out of all the candidates, it seems Ezra is the most plausible as he and Rey shared so many similarities. There are some rumors that Benicio del Toro might be playing Ezra... if he's not, I wonder if it's possible that his character holds the key to Rey's origins. There's something about him that sounds like a total wildcard to me.

I was initially worried myself....but Farnay's race has orange or green skin and females have two large circles on their forehead where horns should be (men have goat horns)...if she was a Hybrid (as inter species children are called in SW), she would show both human and alien features.....at least Farna'ys orange skin colour.....so am pretty sure that dismisses Rey as their child....but what worries me more is what happened to Farnay after the Jedi massacre? Was she killed in it and is part of Luke's sorrow linked to her death?

I recently read somewhere in Ahsoka's context that grey jedi carry silver lightsabers.....a sign of things to come?o_O

I agree, they could have fasted anyone to play some random senator or another knight of Ren but the fact that they cast Benicio del Toro takes me think his role is going to be important. And if one or both of Rey's parents are alive this will be the time to start introducing them also didn't Colin Treverrow say he won't be introducing any new characters?)
I' m wondering could the new young female character they'll be introducing next episode actually be the one who's Obi Wan's granddaughter?
One of the biggest defenses for the Rey Skywalker theory people are using is that KK and the other writers wouldn't disrespect GL by not using some of his original ideas about Vader's grandchildren but GL said that a fishery didn't want to follow his ideas.I to say if it was because Rey was Like's daughter who got abandoned on a junk yard like Jakku to survive all on her own I wouldn't blame him for being pissed off I would be as well, lol.

Do you mean Kelly Marie Tran? I honestly have no idea... maybe she's just part of the resistance and Poe knows her. What I've heard about her is that she might play Finn's love interest. Although some people are saying that she could be a force sensitive.

Yes,I meant her thanks.I guess it's possible I know originally she would have more screen time but because of the re-writes her screen time will be reduced.I don't know why I have it in my mind that she might be from the FO or something.I know one of the sites said that the new female character was going to have an important connection to Finn.Maybe she'll be a Mara Jade type of character. It will be interesting to see her dynamics with Poe and Finn.

Excellent summary, panki. I hope Rey's origin story is satisfying, no matter what it is. I just feel a bit like somebody (was it Force22?) said earlier - if Rey is linked to a legacy character through a convoluted backstory, the backstory easily becomes all about explaining something that happened in the past. I hope the mystery of Rey's background is an organic part of the current story.

By the way, lots of people say it would be sad if Luke hasn't had a chance to start a family and has no offspring... but why hasn't anyone considered the possibility that perhaps he does have grown-up children whom we have yet to meet? Not because they were abandoned on a remote planet (or were kidnapped to be trained as a Stormtrooper) but because they've been, say, off on a Resistance mission somewhere during the events of TFA. Perhaps we'll get a surprise and Kelly Marie Tran is a Skywalker. That would certainly explain why her role was called a new "female lead" in an already crowded cast.

BrehaSolo: it's hard to tell about the new characters, isn't it. There was talk about a female Sith, and a new young female lead, but the female Sith could also be Laura Dern's character. (I hope she might be playing a Nightsister because there were some rumours of Sith witches earlier.) We also don't know which characters got their screentime reduced, and how much; personally I think the rewrites were more of an excuse to postpone the release date to Christmas. The fact that Kelly Marie Tran was announced alongside Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern, and her role has been called a "lead", makes me think that her role isn't altogether unimportant. But we shall see.
