So good! Finished last night. I felt so uncomfortable during the convention scenes. But that just shows how good the story is!
My mistake. It reads one episode but two stories or parts. Sandman is the biggest hit in streaming right now
I see it as spin-offs. They have a derivative cartoon series based on The Boys, too. Excellent! Wantd to make sure I wasn't missing something. Thank you for clarifying.
Smart pairing up of stories with skilful execution. Becoming quite interesting how on nose these stories written 30 years ago are.
Some potential good news... https://directories.wga.org/project/1217265/the-sandman/ WGA is listing a Season 2 staff on their website... might be nothing, but it's a good sign...
I’m just about the watch the convention episode. This show is incredible so far. It’s such a fantastic mix of fantasy and horror and dark humor. Previous shows like Good Omens tried this but they didn’t work for me like this does. The stakes here feel legitimately scary and I find myself compelled to keep watching. Very surprised by how much I’m enjoying it. One of my favorite shows of 2022 for sure. The actor playing Sandman is perfect. Great fit for a unique role. Same for the nightmare villain with shades. He’s perfect. All of the antagonists are creepy and unique. Just when I thought the premise was out of ideas they dropped the dream vortex concept and it somehow all works with the story setup prior.
I just finished the convention episode and that was truly one of the most unsettling episodes of TV I have ever seen. Part of what I find so intriguing about this show is the depths of darkness it is willing to go. It adds stakes that are uncommon for TV. I am rarely this worried for characters or situations on TV. I’m so desensitized to stuff now but this show is chilling and thrilling.
The earliest Sandman leaned more towards horror, but the later stories delve into deeply touching explorations of the deepest questions of existence. Presuming future seasons, here are things to focus on in Season One: Spoiler What did Dream want with one Billy Shakespeare? You've seen three of Dream's siblings. He has three more, one of whom has their symbol/image removed from the gallery where the siblings call each other. Lucifer has not forgotten what Dream did, and plans on doing something... profound. Also, notice that Dream's former lover was imprisoned in Hell. By Dream. Calliope and Dream had a child that was a famous person in Greek mythology. Hmmm.... a child born in dreams?
[spoilers] to answer the above: the child born of Calliope and Morpheus is Orpheus, and only his head survives. Nada’s backstory was a stand alone and her story arc is concluded in “Seasons of Mist”. And don’t forget, Lucifer abdicates the throne of ruling Hell.[/spoilers] @blackmyron
@Nehru_Amidala - You need to tweak the coding on your post, needs to be just spoiler, not the plural.
If it wasn't I'd swear that Gail Berman was working there! Who in their right mind wouldn't want a season 2?
The problem with this series was always its cost. It's said every episode in the first season cost fifteen million dolars! That's why it take so long for Netflix greenlit another season.
Some season 2 stuff The upcoming season will feature a rich tapestry of settings, including Destiny's garden, Hell, the Dreaming, Ancient Greece, and revolutionary France, offering fans a diverse storytelling experience. The second season of The Sandman will introduce new and returning characters, such as occult detective Johanna Constantine and Norse gods like Thor and Odin, adding depth and complexity to the narrative.
Seeing as Gaiman wrote Sandman and American Gods (tho I’m not well-read with either), does this mean we’ll see Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday?
