What do ya guys/gals think of this movie, do ya think it's gonna be good or bad?

I think it's gonna be ok. Probably better off going straight to video though. I hope it has a good storyline. If there are cool special effects they aren't in the previews that's for sure.

Bad bad bad. Should be using money on some other useless sequel, like Clueless 3, Charlies Angels 2, or American Pie 3. [face_plain]

I think its funny how a lot of my friend wanted to go see Resident Evil cause Slipknot music was attached to it. Sadly, thats how movies go these days...

I liked the Mummy II, but am not sure about the Scorpian King. It seems rather...franchise-ish, to use improper grammatical terms. I didn't really like the Rock's acting in the MummyII, but his face did fit the part rather well. I guess I am still iffy on the subject.

Um...no thanks. I think I'll pass on this one. I can't stand The Rock's acting even from the trailer.

What kind of name is The Rock anyway? And who was so drunk that they actually let him act in another movie?

The Scorpion King looks awful. It doesn't help that I thought The Mummy was awful and TMR even worse.

According to a friend who's read the novelization, there's not even any big fights, just duels and stuff. Spoilers for the movie, here's his review:

The movie adaptation starts out at a frozen outpost in a northern mountainous region.
Here we are introduced to the major character Mathayus, whom MUMMY RETURNS fans know as the Scorpion King. (Although at this point he is not yet the Scorpion King, but an assassin, and along with his two brothers are the only remaining members of the wiped-out Akkadian tribe)
This intro is a setup scene to portray the cunning and ferociousness of the trio as they do what they're good at---which is killing.

After this the remainder of the story takes place in the desert kingdom of Ur, and the decadent city of Gomorrah. (of Sodom and Gomorrah fame)

Mathayus and his brothers are hired by the king of Ur to assassinate the Sorcerer of the evil king Memnon, the ruler of Gomorrah. It seems the sorcerer is a gifted seer who can predict the future, causing the evil king to have an edge on his enemies.

Mathayus sets off to work, but is betrayed, as he finds out the sorcerer, is a sorceress, and a beautiful one at that, because just as he has a clear shot at her with the great bow that only he can string and use, he stays his hand at her beauty. He is captured and his two brothers are killed by the evil king before his eyes.

The sorceress (actually, only a seer) senses something in Mathayus, and tells the king it will not be in his interest to kill him. So the king stakes him in the desert to die next to a goofy horse thief. They escape, and here the story gets zany!

Along with the wisecracking goofy sidekick, he sneaks back to Gomorrah and after a madcap romp through the city streets chasing a bunch of street kids who stole his purse, he hires one to show him a secret way inside the palace, which the kid does.
One thing leads to another, things go wrong, Mathayus tries to get away and runs into the palace magician who hides him in the "spoon" of a catapult invention he is working on, but accidentally sits on the lever shooting Mathayus out the window into the window of the Kings harem. This is right up his alley as they try to seduce him. But actually they take his weapons and call the guards. He fights the guards, escapes through the palace and winds up in the Sorceress's chamber where she is taking a bath in a giant tub. He jumps in just as the guards arrive, he pulls the plug, they both end up on a wild water ride down the drain that empties in a fountain somewhere in the city, and eventually get away.

Now the troupe consisting of Mathayus, Cassandra the Seer, the wacky little thief, and the eccentric palace magician head out across the desert only to run into a tribe of desert thieves whom they align themselves with. Cassandra only has her pychic powers as long as she stays a virgin, but guess who has a say in that? And you can imagine the look on the king's face upon her return when he "tests" her powers to see if she has been spoiled.

The rest of the kooky, fun-filled, zany adventure includes a hilarious scene with the idiot thief and some "magic powder" concocted by the magician, (gunpowder) and a laff-riot where the King of Thieves, (to be played by Michael Clarke Duncan) dresses up as a harem girl and tries to distract a sentry so Mathayus can reenter Gomorrah to get at the king.

Well, Mathayus eventually wins, rips the bloody crown off of Memnon's head and becomes the Scorpion King to rule Gamorrah.

If anyone is expecting any huge battles with a cast of thousands, forget it. At least the book mentions none. Most of the battles are simple one on one duels, or a few against one within the confines of a castle. Apart from the gunpowder explosion that levels half the castle, and the giant dust storm, I don't see a whole lot spent here for SPFX.

    In my opinion, if

"What kind of name is The Rock anyway?"

    A wrestling name. Duh.

"And who was so drunk that they actually let him act in another movie?"

Actually, the movie was written for him.

But regardless, it's going to suck. It has no hope of being good. Any movie that has to do the amount of reshooting the Scorpion King did can't be good.

    Amazing.
