I know this group has been pretty tight-knit for a pretty long time but I'm shocked at the lack of any kind of Andor fanfiction. The show is exceptional. Season 2 has even up the bar from season 1. I know where I can go to get it I'm just surprised that there's not a single piece I could find around here.

I'm sorry about that double post I forgot to say: "Sorry about this double post."

I'm sorry for wasting your time with that question and hope to very sincerely apologize for that action: it wasn't at all my intention, and I hope that's able to clear that up.

Once more, Ms.: I apologize for that action and not being aware of that double post.

@Mira_Jade has a short one; was it one of your Olympics threads, Mira?

For myself, Andor is super inspiring for me to write in general, but somewhat intimidating as far as fanfic of the show itself. I don’t at all think I can match that level of quality. But I have some ideas for tight-focus one-shots, always assuming that I can write them in a way I’m satisfied with.

^^ agree with Gabri, Andor has been AMAZING but I have a writing rut that I've been sitting in for twenty years and I'm happy there. :p

Also ... Andor is so tightly written and satisfying that I don't really feel the need to write fix-it fic, which is usually the genesis of my writing. I shouldn't jinx it though.

Hi, welcome to the boards! I don't have a lot to say with regard to fancasting (it just has never really been a thing I've thought about) but I wanted to acknowledge the work that you put into the post and the clear thought that you've put in with both the fancasting and the formatting, which I realize isn't completely intuitive.

With specific regard to fancasting, I just don't ... think about faces that much, as a fanfic writer? I don't know how to explain it beyond that.

@Jacen Skywalker Hi, and welcome to the Fanfic board! I’m not sure why your images aren’t posting, but the best solution that I have found for easily posting images to the boards is to upload them to Flickr. Its image sharing feature offers a pre-formatted BB code that you can cut and paste directly into your message, like this

Hope that helps you, feel free to shoot me a DM if you have more questions!

Can you please give me a full, in-depth instructional breakdown of how to do that and how to use it? Do I have to create an account for that and have to pay for that? I've never used that before.

PS. Could you please reply back as frequently as possible because I don't want to accidentally double post to get in contact with you? I don't wanna get in trouble or banned for that.

I'd be very appreciative, grateful, and thankful for all the help you can give me.

@brodiew Mira's Andor fanfic thread that Gabri mentioned is this one. Highly recommended!

As for reading and writing Andor fanfic right now – for me, this show is so [insert superlatives here] that I want to watch it on its own terms and I'm actively avoiding fanfic until it's done airing. I even had an old crack!fic featuring Cassian that's totally unrelated to the show on my list of goals for WIP month, but Andor took the wind out of my sails. I just need time to digest the series before I can consider reading or writing about it.

One of the things about Andor is that we know how this ends. It's already derivative, from Rogue One specifically and the backstory of the OT generally. The series is doing what I generally feel fanfic itself does best: filling in the gaps. However, finding gaps within the gaps and trying to fill those is necessarily a process of very narrow scope, especially in something as tightly plotted as Andor. There's just less space to fit a fanfic into.

I think, once the series ends, there will be opportunities to add fanfic about various characters who manage to survive (this does not, critically, include Cassian, which is no doubt impactful). For example, Memoirs of the First Senator includes a whole bunch of Mon Mothma stuff, and her character in Andor (season one, season two wasn't out yet), influenced that portrayal.

Mechalich hits the nail on the head, I think, the fundamental problem with Andor is the predestined end. Given, it makes for wonderfully tragic exposition in our learning about the titular character, his connections and friends - especially those who perish in the same action(rest in power Melshi, you were a real one). I adore Andor, and it's primarily responsible for my return to the forums and to my stories, but I don't know if I have the talent or the gumption to try and take on something that is already so fantastic.

Given what we know already, I know somebody out there is probably gonna write some absolutely killer Bix angst, assuming, of course, she survives.

I personally don't feel that this is the problem, or, at any rate, it isn't in my case. There are so many supporting characters whose stories beg to be told (the young woman in the Sienar facility, the Maya Pei Brigade, the various ISB supervisors, Davo Sculdun and his shady dealings, the two dudes from the Ministry of Enlightenment, etc.) and that's before we even get into exploring the backstory of major characters – and then, even that is before we look at the wide world of AUs. I'm sure that the killer Bix angst will be fantastic, but at the end of the day it's very possibly the story I'm least interested in given how rich this show is.

(Also, I'd pay good money to read/watch a sitcom featuring Syril, Dedra and Eedy. If anyone out there feels up to it, I'd be grateful.)

Responding re the multiple topics we have going at once here (which is great!):

Andor: I haven't seen the show yet, which is part of why I am not able to be among those writing fan stories for it yet. Maybe I'll see it sometime and decide some part of it inspires me in that direction, but like @vader_incarnate , I've got my own wheelhouse(s) already that I'm already perfectly happy in, and I suspect that's true for many of us here. In my time in this community, I haven't tended to see any sort of huge uptick in fanworks associated with new shows when said shows appear—maybe a few stories here and there, but that's generally the extent of it. Though what I have heard about Bix makes me think I might especially enjoy her story. (Incidentally, for anyone looking for Andor stories here: @Chyntuck has mentioned @Mira_Jade 's fantastic Luthen piece in The Man of Many Ways, and @rktho has Sleep Talk featuring Cinta and Vel.)

Fancasting: I too haven't personally thought a lot about this, and like vader_inc I think it's also because writing isn't a visual thing for me either, if that makes sense? That and (a) I just personally have never followed a lot of film or TV personalities, and (b) I have a lot of OCs who are aliens, so it wouldn't really work to try to match them up with a human actor, you know? Though there's one possible exception in the case of one my human characters, Captain Glockel Sternenkranz of the Rose Evergreen: I imagine her as looking like a grown-up and slightly more hardboiled Princess Anna or Pippi Longstocking. (OK, not technically the same as a fancast, I know, because they're fictional characters, but it's the closest I can come for now!)

Believe me when I tell you that you want to rectify that as soon as possible. Andor isn't just a great Star Wars show; it's a great show, full stop. There are some episodes about which I can say without exaggeration that they're among the very best things I've ever seen on TV.

Re: fancasting (I meant to reply to that earlier, but something happened and I forgot), it's also not something I do much, especially for Canon/Legends characters. I just go with whatever illustrations are available in official material. I've occasionally done it for my OCs to cement the image I have of them, but then it'll usually be Greek public figures, which means that nobody here's ever heard of them. That also probably explains why the vast majority of my OCs have olive skin and dark hair :p

Thanks for the rec! I'll have to check out that other fic.

I am usually hard-pressed to come up with fancasts for my characters as well, but I can see David Bradley as Tarkay clear as day. I think he'd wear the Weequay makeup very well and I already know he can do a sinister Cockney accent.

I read @Mira_Jade 's fic when she posted it. Excellent, as always.
I've always been pretty much a scene writer one shots or shorter multiple post stories. Although the show itself is incredibly tightly written there is tons of room between the year gaps or missing scenes that could easily be written about. Side characters or OCS that can be created. I get some of the reluctance about messing with something that's not even over yet much less something that's being touted as one of the best Star Wars stories Ever Told. I haven't had much inspiration to write over the last year or more but indoor certainly is something that I could try.

Personally, I've never been much inclined to fancast real actors as inspiration for a character. However, I have long had a practice of taking character inspiration either from an existing image from Star Wars media - this is sometimes easy, in SWTOR, for example, basically every named character has a canon appearance and there's hundreds of generic 'mob' templates available to use for new OCs - or using inspiration from existing fictional images found via search. More recently, I've translated to producing character portraits using generative AI, which has advantages and disadvantages, but it does allow toying with dozens of versions of the same idea until you hit on the one that screams 'yes, that's the character!'

Not trying to be irritating, but I'd like to please ask: can everyone here who's seen my post go back to the previous page and immediately let me know if the images appear to everyone on your respective ends?

I've been trying to fix it for a while and I hope I was finally able to completely fix it now.

    Thank you.

That means I fixed it, right?

I didn't mean to waste anybody's time by asking: I just wanted to be sure.

I'm sorry for wasting anybody's time and annoying everywhere here. I didn't mean, or intend, to do so: I just wanted to share my fancasting decisions of characters from the Expanded Universe, was very excited, and wanted to begin a nice discussion with all of you kind and friendly ladies and gentlemen here.

As for fancasting in the Grauverse I generally don't concern myself with the current age of the actors/actresses, at times more or less taking them like they were looking in a certain movie, even if said movie is decades old, given that it's all in good fun anyway. But here is my list for the Grauverse were I certainly forget one or two:

    Ulrika Grau is Ruby Rose
Elena Kyr is Briana Venskus (not a trans actress due to Elena having recieved a gene therapy that makes her indistiguishable from a cis woman)
    Ilona Malek is Ginnifer Goodwin
    Ethan Malek is Viggo Mortensen
    Mira Grau is Brianna Hilderbrand
Tobin Redan is Park Hae Soo
    Serena Redan is Won Ji-an
    Victor Laric is Stephen Dillane
    Maximilian Palpatine is Peter Capaldi
    Yoshihisa Pandionne is Mackenyu
    Yoshiko Zabi is Jessey Meng

In terms of Andor the finale has yesterday delivered me with a swathe of new ideas for stories, especially regarding the fate of Dedra Meero (no spoilers), especially as I incidentially recently referenced her in the Grauverse. Wish I had waited with that cause I think her ending was kinda perfect in several ways, but it will be a lot of fun to connect it to what I had originally in mind for her...

@Jacen Skywalker - We have tried to give you some leeway with posting, but we have to say that enough is enough now. You posted your fan-casting - which we allowed as a courtesy in the fan fiction section of the boards, given that you do not intend to write fan fiction as far as we can tell - and had people interact with your message. You cannot ask for more without it being considered spamming, and derailing this thread in particular. This is a message board; people will reply to what they want to reply. To ask for immediate and frequent feedback is uncourteous and runs in the face of the nature of these forums. You posted; people will reply if they want to. Please stop asking for anything more.

    I'm sorry.

I'm sorry for wasting everyone's time and annoying everyone here with my content. I didn't mean, or intend, to do so.

Once more to reiterate one final time and that'll be it: it wasn't at all my intention, and I hope that everyone here will forgive me for my unintentional, misplaced, and mistaken trespass against anyone and everyone currently present here.

If it'd appease everyone: I'll henceforth, and effective instantaneously, be now, and will remain, silent for an indefinite/interminable amount of time until spoken to, addressed, allowed to, and/or given permission to do so so as to not cause any unintentional and/or unwarranted annoyance to all individuals currently present in this thread.

Once more ma'am, Ms. Mira: I very much seriously, and deeply, apologize to you, all the other Moderators, and all other users present for that action and not being aware of what said action was doing.

I very much would like to ask for forgiveness for my action, and will very much assure, and swear to, you and all others here: I'll never do so again.

May the Force be with you all. Always.

Also (in my own honest and truthful opinion....which others are free to disagree with):

@brodiew You'll be pleased to hear that when I sat at my desk a few hours ago, four different Andor-adjacent plot bunnies slammed into me like a ton of bricks falling from the sky, and I ended up jotting down notes about them instead of writing the reviews I had on my list :p It'll be some time until I actually write any of these stories because I don't want to ditch my on-going projects, but I'm hoping to write at least one before the end of the year.
