The (slight) movement of FFUK/BIFF to the European Umbrella!

There is discussion at present about the movement of this place to the European area of FF. We are, at present the only European FF group not to be there anyway.

I would be interested in your views on this matter before any decision is made.

The way I see it is this. It makes sense to be part of the wider European FF community. The aim is to promote greater co-operation between all European FF groups. I also see it as a sensible housekeeping exercise and making FF more consistant. Tidying up elements by real grouping if you will.

Another advantage that has been mentioned is that it would promote the cover of RSAs, and I stress this point, IF NEEDED. At times when there is a lack of cover it would make it easier for other European RSAs to come in and check things out (again, only of needed).

I see no major reason not to move but your opinions would be appreciated!

PS: For the sake of full disclosure this is what I had to say in the Old Folks Home (Mod board) on the matter:

Hi everyone! I support the move back to the Europe category 100%. However, an open discussion with the BIFF members will be needed. I'm sure no one will really object but I'm a big supporter of open decision making!

I'll start the discussion either in Comms or BIFF in the next couple of days once I get my head around the whole RSA thing!

Is that ok with everyone?

I knew this was coming as Germany recently got put into it

I have no problem with it but then I visit other European boards. Also I organised a European meetup recently and would make us a larger community rather than just lil old us.

 

Will it enable us to get cheaper travel to Holland?!? ?

The idea is a sound one and I say yea.

As D_A has pointed out we keep our 'identity' as BIFF but we're under the main banner of Europe... which politics aside (RL ones) is a good thing as we're part of that continent!

Also, as we only have one mod at present, the 'back-up' brought about by the other mods would be useful... so long as they tread lightly...

Yeah, the additional mod back up would only be used if needed. For example: If something major was happening and I wasn't around etc...

 

It's really not a problem - maybe we can forge closer links with the Italians and start importing cheap parmesan?!?

There are no negative aspects to the move and there must be lots of benefits...

My only concern is about the "cultural gap".

I.e. Are the mods fleunt enough in English and "The British Mentality" not to have a "Rox" type situation again.

(If they get called up in an emergency!)

There is nothing worse then a mod "modding" outside there area of expertese.

As long as we have that confirmed, I can't see that the move would do any harm.

UKS, I agree with you on your cultural modding concerns. I think we would need clarification regarding this matter.

But, i do have the same concern as UKS.

OA, if BIFF/FFUK was to make the move would all our regions remain together under the main BIFF/FFUK or would they be alphabetical within the other European regions.

Does that make sense????

 

File everything under BIFF/FF-UK and then file that somewhere in Europe. Preferably somewhere sunny with good food and cheap booze...

If the forums could work like this:

Europe/BIFF/Biff internal areas.

It would look a lot better rather then:

Europe/Biff Internal Areas.

If that makes sense? ?

At the moment, it's too "busy" on the eyes, and though I agree that Fanforce dominates the main "boards" page a little too much, I would say that this layout you have chosen doesn't work.

From an asthetic point of view.

It makes sense to put us under Europe. Would also mean that Eire could be separated from the BIFF/FFUK group since it's a separate entity in its own right. Same could be said of Scotland, Wales and N.I. depending on their members' wishes.

I do not have any problem with the move at all, either way it goes. I agree that language could be an issue, but this could be overcome without too much difficulty.

Yes, there could be mod related issues, but since things have clamed down a bit round here this is not a really serious issue.

I am not a big fan of moving into Europe in real life, but anyhting that allows SW fans to meet and chat is a good thing.

I'd agree that maybe Eire could go its own way as there seems very little interaction between the UK and Eire here. However, I think the regions within the UK should stay together!

 

The whole British Isles 'folder' should just be moved into the Europe Folder.

It should be the same for everything in Europe - click on 'Italy' to bring up another page and delve into north and south.
