In the event that Pattinson does become dcu batman (which I’m still leaning on the side of doubt for anyways), they would probably have to ditch Brave & the Bold, Teen Titans, Dynamic Duo, the idea of an older Batman who’s already had a Robin or two, any history with Ra’s or Talia, etc.

I did see a good post that The Batman is such a dour #%!@ that he may totally need a Robin. But I highly doubt if we get two different Batman universes they would give him two different Robin's (but God knows we can get two of everybody else)

This all has familiar rings of when Bale/Nolan's Dark Knights were still in production and the Justice League universe was going into production.

Those projects never came together and neither will the current ones.

That said...while I can see lines of distinction being drawn between the Reeves Batman and the Gunn universe Batman...that doesn't mean Gunn's will have to become some Adam West-ish spoof with adventures from the silver age.

I would've said Gunn uses an "Older Batman"...but by the time Reeves get another Batman on film, Pattinson will be 40. Doesn't leave much space for Gunn to get older without tipping into Dark Knight Returns or Batman Beyond territory.

So then the distinction probably leans more toward his relationship with other heroes.

Gunn could simply "skip" the Batman solo film. If there is one character in the DC catalog who could stand next to new heroes with no solo film build up, it is Batman (WB clearly thought so before, skipping over an Affleck solo and jumping right to Batman v Superman).

And in that case, they don't need to flesh out the Batman world right away. They don't have to go to Gotham, or have Batman's gallery of rogues. No Bat-family, etc etc. Go back to that if the expanded universe proves a hit and you have time and money to mine the vein.

Better to have Batman be a part of the universe rather then muscling the rest of the universe out for more Batman time (which is usually how this goes because Batman is 85% of DC's drawn.

Let Reeves play out his Batman as a lead...and use Batman as a part of the new DC universe, but not an immediate lead.

    ------------

But no exec would let that happen because Batman = $, and no opportunity to exploit the cash cow will be forestalled.

I get the impression that the Batman of Gunn’s universe will be along the lines of Grant Morrison’s run. Not super dark, or hyper realistic, but not camp either. Leans into the more fantastical elements of the comic books.

If they're going to do that they should just have the first movie be Batman of Zur-En-Arrh just to screw with people and get the point across.

Ain't no way Reeves is ever doing that. Not enough Tru Grit

Not really. Miller was stopped because of the high cost of the film's budget and the writers strike, as much as Nolan threatening to quit making Batman films. Meanwhile, Disney and Marvel spent money showing off a shared universe over multiple years that lead to WB investing in a shared universe. They even had multiple versions going on just four years ago. Pattinson over here, and Keaton and Affleck over there.

The only thing stopping this is "Superman" tanking hard.

And I don't think it will. That trailer had nothing but positive hype in every single version of the trailers comments sections and much of it was over Krypto. Gunn's a genius for doing Krypto, and seemingly doing him WELL.

Internet hype doesn't translate into big box office. We have yet to see if it will work.

Doesn't hurt, the Internet hype for the Deadpool and Wolverine trailer when it launched last February was hyuge

True, but Superman hasn't had a huge hit in 43 years. D&W had three films in eight years that were hits.

They had Penguin as an in-flight option on the NZ flights, but without subtitles.

Booted up ep 1 to give it a go, really liked the pre-credit bit, to the degree that I decided I wanted to watch this properly, so BR it will be.
