Speak of the Devil. Greg Weisman wrote this episode of Transformers Prime and he did a fantastic job with it. Best episode of the series. Hilarious, cool action, and Wheeljack is even half likable now.
I seemed to have missed an episode between the return of Prime and this Wreckers episode- they've just been rerunning the last episode a couple times w pop up video comments. What's the explanation for the bones on earth?
The autobits? I kinda like those, Hub tossed alot of pop culture references in there I don't think anyone in Prime's target audience would get. Its kind of a weak explanation for the bones. I could have sworn that during the first 4 episodes Megatron was surprised to see Shockwave's cloned Predicon alive, then they apparently reconned it to "Well, we sent a bunch of Predacons way back when to earth to guard Energon Deposits and we even microchiped them. They got old and died and now we Decepticons go collect some bones and clone em again. Cuz that's gonna end real well for them, right? Oh and by the way, legends of Dragons? They were inspired by Predicons. I'm enjoying season 3 more than the last two actually. I laughed the entire way through this one. Knockout was in top form and I'm pretty sure Fowler using pepper spray on him was a homage to Vinnue using the pie gun on Goliath in Gargoyles. Weisman often puts Gargoyles Easter Eggs into stuff he touches. I am most interested to see what is gonna happen if Smokescreen reveals what almost happen to him but first Breakdown Zombie!
More to the point, Michael Bay's design team spits out a bunch of generic robot pictures to hang on the wall to throw darts at while blindfolded. Each dart has a Transformer name. Hence, we get Bumblebee without his signature horns and Starscream with the head of a chicken. COCK A DOODLE DOO!
Nope. It's still Sentinel Prime, only pre-Earth. Look at the date that it was created: January 15, 2010. Ultra Magnus was originally supposed to be the Autobot traitor of the movie (leaked callsheets for DotM revealed Ultra Magnus and Megatron setting up the pillars), but was given a name swap at the last minute to be Sentinel Prime. Why did they switch names? I'm guessing that it was an effort to limit fan backlash. I mean this is Ultra Magnus, the Autobot's Autobot. The guy that Optimus had chosen as a successor in the G1 before that little butthole Hot Rod got in the way. To make him a turncoat would have been an even bigger character mishandling than the treatment given to Megatron.
Considering what they did to Megatron, I wouldn't put anything past the live-action franchise. Sentinel Prime was a better name choice as often in other continuities Sentinel has... not turned out to be a great Prime (from idiotic to outright evil depending on which series we're talking about), but still surprised they actually recognized that. Heck, I remember when I first saw the trailer and thinking it could be Alpha Trion or something with the mustache, good thing they didn't misuse that name. The whole Predacon hunt thing is kind of... unoriginal. At least Starscream outright scoffed at "another scavenger hunt", but now, instead of fighting over various relics, just one tiny bit of Predacon CNA is enough for Shockwave to clone a new one so... yeah, been defeats left and right. Wheeljack is almost tolerable after this last episode, but still. After the destruction of Darkmount, not sure where the series goes from here. The relics and then the Omega Lock gave the series a clear direction, but now its back to taking over the earth, now with Predacons since the Vehicons and Insecticons aren't enough. I still remember Skyquake being left behind to act as a guardian, now we've got Predacons chasing off ancient Autobots on earth too. Although who knows if anyone other than Shockwave might have complete control over them. Too bad Starscream has been reduced back to comic relief.
Saintheart to be fair, there is a white optimus prime re-deco underneath all that.... http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/6/6e/Ultramagnusg1toy.jpg
If Galvatron is in T4, I hope he has a big arm-cannon and the crown look on his head. Although given no effort seems to have been put into any Transformer in the Bay movies except Optimus & Bumblebee, I'm not optimistic. I was annoyed at how generic they made Soundwave, I couldn't even tell when he was in TF3 unless someone said his name. Shame they used up Nimoy on Sentinel Prime in the last movie, I thought he was a good Galvatron voice.
I just hope, however it has to happen..... that this movie is such that, either through success or failure or whatever, that someone else takes up the reigns in a few years when it's all died down and does it right. The robots look closer to the actual Transformers and the story is way cooler and awesome and epic and not dumb. I read somewhere that Bay saw the 86 film and hated it. That may be crap, but the point is- that's exactly where the movies need to go- back to the awesome and fun and cool that was 86. All that said, due to the talk about it in this thread, I checked out Transformers Prime on netflix. 3 episodes in and it is great so far!! Quite honestly, the most entertaining and quality of any TF show I've seen, as was mentioned in here. I totally agree. We'll see where it goes.
I wonder how the Quintessons would judge Michael Bay? "Innocent." You heard the man, feed him to the Sharkticons!
If any of you are fans of comics and Transformers then you should definitly check out the IDW series MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE and ROBOTS IN DISGUISE. MTMTE took Transfomers and made it a political Drama, well up until the last few issues. As in Bumblebee and Starscream running to be President of Cybertron or something. RID is pretty much the Transformers version of Star Trek. Great series that have garnered lots of praise.
DantheJedi now that's a post. mane- cool! I'll look them up! Though, I still would like to get my hands on the original stuff that's practically legendary at this point. (free comic book day introduced the return of that team, btw- it was called regeneration one) Oh, apparently that was a hold over from 2012 and they've already wrapped it at issue 100. I wonder if it was any good... edit: apparently pretty good from the amazon reviews. edit2: also looked up your recommendations and they look very good and fun. mtmte- I like that it's mostly new characters, from what they said.
Titan I think still has hardcover trades, and IDW has omnibuses of the original Marvel run. I like the Titan trades becuase they're smaller, but I don't know if they have as many as they used too. They do still have a nice selection of Furmans UK stuff. That's good stuff. I recommend Target 2006, Fallen Angel, Legacy of Unicron, and Time Wars. Fallen Angel introduces the comic world to DEATHS HEAD, and Magnus and Galvatron have some epic fights in the Uk stuff. I've been reading RG1, and as a reader of his Marvel and G2 run it's very disappointing in my opinion. Furman doesn't have it like he used to. The idea is there, but the execution is some what poor. I still say try the two new series. To tell the truth I just started reading them a few days ago via comixology. Only reason is because SHOCKWAVE is my favorit Transformers and I've always liked how he was portrayed in the comics, so I was eager to see how they used him in RID. And since he got his own issue I gave it a shot, it's called RID: SHOCKWAVES, and is an origin for him in that universe. Very well done, and will definitly show you how much the new creative teams have stepped it up a notch in what they are doing with these Robots. I recommend it if you want to give it a shot, not necessarly new reader friendly but you should manage.
Just to clarify, MTMTE is the Transformers quest in space, and really funny a lot of the time, but also many emotional moments. Shockwave also makes a few appearances (the recent RiD issue summed up something that was in MTMTE first, just to mention). Regeneration 1 has been... odd. I tried out the first issue, but then got tired of it fast. Mainly I'm just tired of seeing the Autobots losing. Well, the original series ended with the Autobots winning so the entire Regeneration series is basically tearing down the Autobots, and so most issues are 80% Autobot defeats or clueless Autobots in the dark while everyone else plots around them, unless its the end of an arc issue, and then its about 50/50- the Autobots defeat the current villain, but still have tons of problems left. I've glanced through some of the old UK stuff, its really has had a large influence on many Transformer stories since. His -tion series had some interesting ideas, but most of those have been swept away (doesn't help that Furman's pace was really slow, but still). Its kind of funny though how some recent IDW issues have taken to retconning a few inconsistencies that have accumulated over the years. Still, while I'm not that big a fan of RiD's politics (poor Bumblebee, even without Prime right there, he's still stuck with a thankless job and impossible odds, while Prime is off having more interesting adventures in space, and this is all just in the RiD series). Though after reading MTMTE, almost everything seems to be a clue somehow in every issue that might turn out important eventually.
I'm about 8 episodes into Prime and it is the best Transformers show I have ever seen. Every episode is riveting and, honestly, a bit unpredictable, even the predictable, non-essential to the overall plot episodes!! Thanks, guys!!
