Ok, admittedly, that's pretty cool... But a "molecularly unstable" metal? So basically we could have had mass shifting (beyond the Allspark) from the beginning and avoided ape Screamer and other awful designs?
He's still dead. The only Decepticons in this one that have been confirmed is Galvatron, Lockdown and Spoiler Stinger, who is disguised as an Autobot. And Drift who was a Decepticon and now an Autobot. Starscream is still dead. As is Soundwave, Shockwave and the others that were killed. That and Spoiler Nemesis Prime from the "Transformers Prime" episode "Nemesis Prime". It just explains how the Cybertronians can transform, but it stops short of mass shifting.
All of the Transformers trailers have looked really good. I'm happy that the franchise turned the page on Sam and his family. I hope Mark Walberg doesn't get too goofy with his character like Shia Labeouf. I think the franchise would be much better if the Transformers were actually the main characters of the movie.
i'd be happy to be wrong, but how, after the first three, anyone is expecting this movie to be anything but awful is beyond me. the trailers just look like more of the same crap.
Fire-breathing Grimlock FTW. I guess that sorta makes up for pretty much all the decent Deceptions not being in it since they died in the previous movie (shame, Soundwave was always my favourite even if Bay did mess him up).
For those who want to see the toys, here's what has been released so far. Spoiler tags used to avoid clogging things up. Spoiler Snarl. Slog. Galvatron. Hound. Optimus Prime. Grimlock. Drift.
Second round pics. Spoiler Optimus Prime. Slug. Grimlock (Takara Exclusive) Slug (Takara Exclusive). Bumblebee. Crosshairs. Scorn.
Saw a few of those in a store yesterday. Almost tempted by some of them. The moviebot designs sometimes aren't half bad when they're simplified down to toys. Those G1 paintjobs are always tempting too.
they just remind me of when the toys went from being mostly made of metal and awesome to that kind of plastic garbage, and i get sad all over again.
Yes, I bought a few of the Transformers from the movie line and was totally bummed that they were plastic and felt like they would snap. I haven't bought any Transformers toys since. Although, I would like a Masterpiece Optimus Prime.
This is true of "Hunt For The Decepticons" Terradive who has become a fan favorite and has been used to make Timelines Depth Charge. "Dark Of The Moon" Space Case. And "Timelines: Machine Wars" Starscream. In fact, both Starscream and Depth Charge are perfect fits with the original toy molds. Die cast had problems. Namely breakage was worse then than it is with mostly plastic, save for gold plastic syndrome toys. Megatron broke on me, but Powermaster Optimus Prime didn't. I had an opportunity to mess with Vector Prime from "Cybertron" a while back, when I was going through a thrift store and found him. A plastic figure and yet, fairly sturdy and no sense of breakage. Here's a good breakdown of the whole thing. http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Die-cast
The Transformers franchise may be unique in its mean Rotten Tomatoes score to global box office ratio.
16% on RT. this must mean a 200 million dollar opening. You people are still not reading MTMTE. Why are you not reading MTMTE?
Warning: Language (and then some): Seriously, the running time for this sucker is 165 minutes. So is sitting through that a virtual contract to sign-off your soul to your netherlord of choice?
Transformers: Age of Extinction- it actually doesn't completely suck, surprisingly. It's definitely better than the first three and the first to feel like it's actually trying to tell a Transformers story instead of just slapping broad plot points from the cartoons into a Michael Bay comedy. (though this one does draw from the Dreamwave comics and TF Animated, it does so more in depth than the prior films' attempts) The movie still has some of the usual problems but Wahlberg and co are a massive upgrade over Shia and friends (his plot line with his daughter adds nothing- nor does her character in general, but no one is a completely unlikeable ******* like Sam was in the last film or annoyingly quirky like most of the supporting cast for the first three films overall)) so they're generally minimized- and they get rid of the annoying comic relief character relatively early on thank god). Even the human villains are a step up from the ones in past films even if they're not developed beyond typical bad guy nuances. Though once again the new bad guy, Lockdown, overshadows Galvatron like Megatron was in the last 2 movies by Sentinel and The Fallen- and every non-Autobot except Lockdown remain generic cannon fodder monsters. The Autobots fare better here than in past films- with several given actual personalities. The Dinobots don't get any development though and just kinda come outta nowhere. Also it's kinda ironic that they originally went with the "magic swirl of grey metal parts" style of transformation effects for these movies because the cooler animated designs were deemed too blocky (which is just as much if a ******** excuse now as it was 7 years ago)- yet here the transformations of the new grade of Transformers are LITERALLY a magic swirl of blocks. (Also- just as you're finally starting to think about how awesome it is to have Optimus in action in a near-G1 truck mode set against vistas evoking the Autobot bases of the cartoons... he "upgrades" to a newer truck model (which apparently gives him magic jet engines by the end if the film). DAMMIT) All in all the film is actually pretty decent up until the last third or so when the story falls apart and leaves things underdeveloped or setup with little payoff. Anyways it's still a long ass film that's going to take some time to process. One still can't help but wonder why, with all the money they throw at these movies, they can't write characters (human or machine) better than the cartoons aimed at kids. Seriously, if you add up the run times of all these films you could probably fit in almost the entire first two seasons of Transformers Prime and get an insurmountable superior entertainment experience (not to mention Transformers experience).
