What: A Transformers Generation 1 game, featuring over 100 Transformers to choose from.

Gameplay is predominantly rumored to be like Sega's "Virtua ON". Other rumors list it as being like "Dynasty Warriors". Follwing either an Autobt or Decepticon story, you take a team of either 3 Autobots or 3 Decepticons battle it out in various missions. Gained "Energon Points" will allow your Transformers to perform one of their special attacks during your mission.

The story follows the G1 saga through the year 2010, and most likely will incorporate famous Transformers scenes. For example, by viewing the trailer (linked below), you'll see the many scenes seem to take place during the movie. Takara is attempting to use the original sound FX and as many original VAs as possible.

Sounds and looks awesome!

Especially when it will be like Dynasty Warriors and Virtua On. Both are my favorite games especially Virtua On in the arcades where you control you meck with actual joysticks. And being like Dynasty Warriors will incorporate hack'n slash gameplay with RPG elements.

Im just glad its not based on the new ARMADA series because that is just crap and not enough action.

We've got a heck of a lot of screenies here. May I suggest the first page and last two. The rest are mainly character shots in what appears to be the character selection screen. I sincerely hope this doesn't turn out like the Beast Wars game. I like the Beasties; but even though I only spent £5 on it, I felt cheated.

 

I wonder if you can play with the combination of Transformers like Aerial bots into Defensor, Combaticons into Bruticus and stuff like that? ?

 

Since Latta is dead, they should get the same VA who does Cobra Commander's voice in the new G.I.Joe commercials. Latta did the voice of the original CC, and this new guy is pretty dern close.

That would be terrific if they had the Combiners. I'm not sure how they could pull it off, though. I noticed GrandMoffTarkin's link showed screens of Prime versus the leaders of the Combaticons and Stunticons, so it is possible, I guess.

They'd at least better have the Dinobots!

The storline runs all the way through 2010, with 100 characters, so they've gotta be in there.

I'm not sure, but judging by the looks of [link=http://www.52toys.com/game/30.JPG]THIS SCREENSHOT[/link] maybe you can create your own Transformer? Or maybe modify existing ones?

 

does anyone know if there is any possible way to find out if the game is being made for the other two consoles (box and cube)

I'm not sure about that, but about making your own Transformers, I think it looks like at most changing certain attributes, like strength etc. That looked very much like Jazz, and from other screenies, it seems that in the same way "Convoy" is substituted for Prime, "Meister" is subbed for Jazz. Obviously though, I can't be certain...

EDIT: After a search, this page does not make a multiple-console release look hopeful. And if anyone can read Japanese, you're welcome to check out Winkysoft's homepage and tell us the good/bad news.

Bone, I don't know of any official site for it. I'll see if I can dig up some more info. IGN has some stuff on it, but nothing substantial.

You're probably right. Its probably just for repairs and upgrades.

Yeah, those are just some of the different character names in Japan. Jazz is "Meister", Optimus is "Convoy", Grotesque is "Grotus", Autobot is "Cybertron", Decepticon is "Destron", Hot Rod is "Hot Rodimus", Rodimus is "Rodimus Convoy", Zarak is "Scorponok", Scorponok is "Mega-Zarak", Kup is "Char", etc. You get the picture.

But, most likely, they will be changed to the names we're familiar with in localization.

 

Heh, sweet. Too bad it's for PS2 only.

I'm sure they could probably get Frank Welker to reprise his role again as Megatron. He seems to be fairly obtainable in the voice-acting world as I see/hear him all the time still on a variety of shows (from animal voices for lame cartoons, all the way up to blockbuster movies).

They could probably get most of the cast if they wanted. The only I know they couldn't get is Jazz, since Scatman Crothers passed away.

Wow, I didn't know so many of those voice actors had passed away. Especially Chris Latta. His Cobra Commander and Starscream are unforgettable. I certainly missed Peter Cullen's resonant "Optimus" in Beast Wars (not "Robots in Disguise" or "Armada" -- as far as I'm concerned those are alternate universes/apocryphia/whatever ). he hasn't passed away as well, has he?

As for those screenies...damn. Damn! I want it! If it's for PS2, that's fine. But if it'd come out for Xbox, that'd be even better! Those guys at Winkysoft seem like they, indeed, "have the touch"!

 

Peter Cullen is just too expensive now. He mainly does movie trailers and such.

I really don't want to get a PS2 for this game. But I've got to have the game, being the die-hard Transfan I am.

 

Maybe "they" could recreate the lines of the dead voice actors by using space-age sampling & cut & paste techniques from the cartoon series?

Heck, if "they" can make Jennifer Lopez sing in tune...

Wow...well, it's real pretty, I'll give you that. Transformers rendered in CGI is definitely the best way to go.

Now to nitpick: The actual CGI seemed to be made more for a TV ad than for a game itself. If those are actual PS2 version cutscenes...then damn. It looks like Winkysoft's truly pushing the envelope on the old console. Also, there was no actual gameplay demo, which makes me wonder how far in development the game actually is. It also seems that the game's story mode will be somewhat like DBZ Budokai's: moving throughout the original Transformers G1 saga end ending up in the movie...Or beyond? I hope it goes beyond and show Optimus' return. 'Coz Rodimus sucked. He sucked badly. Whining all the time, some Autobot leader indeed.

 

One other thing I forgot to mention is that it is also two-player. They're now saying the game may be out in Japan in a couple of months, and in the fall in the US.

They are. They're FMV, not real time, but they are from some of the cut scenes in the game.

It acually goes beyond the movie, into 2010, to culminate in the Headmasters series (which is why you see some from that series in a link above)

No I don't. I consider Armada so inane as to be un-watchabe. Mixing up Transformers with a Pokemon/Cardcaptor (or in this case, "Botcaptor") concept is definitely for the birds. I guess this old bot fan can't wrap his mind around a concept more suited for 3 year olds.

Would we see then the whole Targetmaster/Powermaster/Headmaster thing? Ugh. Can't say I liked that whole concept at all...but at least good ol' Prime was leader once again there, so I guess I could stomach that.

I'm sure Sideswipe will appear at least as a NPC. There's Dozens of Autobots to choose from for that.

 

Sideswipe is definitely in the game. He is one of the three Autobots you battle on the first Decepticon mission to rescue Megatron.
