Here is an interesting bit from zap2it.com... I'm kind of skeptical about the AMC Empire and the Ewalk showing it at the same time...

'Attack of the Clones' to Screen Digitally in Just 19 Theaters
    April 30, 2002

HOLLYWOOD (zap2it.com) - Regardless of George Lucas's strong support of projecting movies digitally, only 19 theaters will screen his "Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones" utilizing digital projectors when the film opens May 16.

Wired magazine reported that those theaters will include: Harkins Arrowhead Cinemas 18 (Peoria, AZ); AMC Media Center 6 (Burbank, Calif.); Edwards Irvine Spectrum 21 Megaplex (Irvine, Calif.); El Capitan Theatre (Los Angeles, Calif.); Loews Century Plaza (Los Angeles, Calif.); AMC Mission Valley 20 (San Diego, Calif.); AMC 1000 Van Ness (San Francisco, Calif.); AMC Pleasure Island 24 (Lake Buena Vista, FL); AMC South Barrington 30 (South Barrington, IL); AMC Studio 30 (Olathe, KS); General Cinema Framingham 16 (Framingham, MA); Show Case Cinemas Randolph (Randolph, MA); Edgewater Multiplex Cinemas (Edgewater, NJ); AMC Empire 25 Theatres (New York); Clearview Ziegfeld Theatre (New York); Loews Cineplex E-Walk (New York); Cinemark at Valley View (Valley View, OH); Showcase Cinemas Springdale (Springdale, OH); Cinemark at Legacy (Plano, TX).
However, Lucas has put theater owners on notice that no movie house will be permitted to show Episode III unless it has installed digital projectors.

yeah, that seems sorta sketchy. aside from it being bad for both the amc and the e-walk to run the same film at the same time, loews and fox are still at odds, aren't they?

Yeah, as far as I know they are. So I don't know how correct Wired is on this. It would be interested if strange for those two theaters to have AotC. Does anyone know if Spiderman is being presented digitally? It's playing at the E-walk and if that theater has a limited number of digital screens it might be taking those up and Wired would definitely be wrong.

episodeone: The AMC Empire 25 is located on West 42nd street between 7th and 8th Avenues, right across from the Loews E-walk.

I think its weird that such few theatres are showing Star Wars. It makes it THAT much harder and theyre losing money.
I swear, these days people are smoking too much crack for their own good.

This whole line-up deal sux for me cuz my parents will never let me camp out. Unless I run away from home, which at this point it sounding like my best option.

Oh, does anyone have any special connections that they could use to find out and tell us when tickets go on sale? Thats kinda stupid to ask actually cuz if anyone did, we'd probably know already. But it doesnt hurt to ask....
Im just really antsy about all this and I have lost most of my self-control already.
Im being consumed by the dark side!!!

Yo, small update. Did a dry run tonight.

www.movietickets.com will sell for AMC theaters natively and will cross-sell UA and Clearview theaters for MovieFone.

www.moviefone.com will sell for UA and Clearview natively and cross-sell AMC theaters for MovieTickets.

www.fandango.com will sell only for Sony/Loews theaters. It will not cross-sell anything. It is unlikely to be of use for us due to ongoing feud.

I am unclear which theaters the VRU (phone) units of the respective services will sell for. Does anyone know/care?

It's to my understanding that since the TPM debacle between Loews Theaters and Lucasfilm/20th Cent. Fox, NO Loews theater shows ANY Fox film in Manhattan at all in the last 3 years.

Unless Loews gave into Fox, I don't think it'll be playing at the Ewok(E-Walk) despite that article.

Oh, man... Its freakin' wednesday and I still have no idea when tickets are going on sale. This is driving me MAAAAAAAAAD! I wonder what the heck they're doing over at LFL and Fox.

Its like they've all been sitting around taking bong hits. Suddenly friday will roll around and Ric McCallum will awake from his Jerry Garcia like trance and say "Dude, what am I forgetting? Oh, man! We gotta sell tickets today!"

just spoke to someone at the Ziegfeld.

he says they still don't know when tickets will go on sale, but it will probably be a week before. i mentioned that the word on the street is this friday. he said he didnt know about that, but i could call back and check tomorrow. he also sounded like he knew more than he was saying... but that might just be me reading in to things.

he also said he thinks the theater will permit an overnight line-up, which is good news. but that may be a moot point if the onsale date is announced the day of.

it was also confirmed in this conversation that the Ziegfeld will show AOTC non-stop from 12am the 15th to 12am the 16th.

    This is an interesting subplot.

We're all assuming Fox and Sony/Loews will continue to feud over Star Wars, etc. How far out did the feud extend? I work in Jersey City (next to Newport Mall) and the Cineplex Odeon/Loews there definitely said they're getting it.

Did the feud extend into Jersey at all last time?

i don't stand on line at clubs or bars - so i don't want to do it opening day in midtown.

    Very Dangerous Doug sends this:

Just got off the phone with the manager of AMC 24 theatres in ********* at (3:02pm EST) and they confirmed that upper management has sent them an email TODAY to all theaters ( carrying the film ) that they can start selling tickets for episode 2 as early as 10AM Friday Morning at the AMC 24 location. They will announce tommorow what show times will be available starting May 16th.

I followed up with a quick call to Lucasfilm Public Relations at (3:12pm EST) and they confirmed that Thursday 5-2-02 that FOX will announce which theatres around the country will be granted the copies of the movie.

It seems that every theater has a different story on this, so you might want to check your local theater before camping out. But this is the story we're hearing most frequently.

this from the TFN AOTC main page.

commence freak-out. that is, i know this is not the be all end all and that theaters can go on sale when they want... but this is good.

    good.

It seems this 5/3 10:00 AM is the norm thus far.

I can't get sh__ or shinola for information out of theaters here in Stamford, CT but I called the Regal Cinema in New Rochelle, NY and they confirmed they will sell tickets this Friday at 10:00 AM.

    Heads up!

    so.

just got a call from a friend of mine. she was in times sq. walking by the AMC theater and she said that they have, in their large blinking red LED lights, the fact that AOTC tickets go on sale there friday morning.

    wow.

now granted, this doesn't necessarily mean that the Ziegfeld is following suit, but it's a damn good bet? and i plan to get there nice and early friday morning in hopes to finally put an end to this madness.

Is it worth it to freeze my ass of through the entire night and just camp out?

well, it looks like it's supposed to stop raining by like 9pm tomorrow (tomorrow! :D) and it won't be that cold overnight (especially compared to what the line's seen so far :p), so... i dunno. does that help?
