Best thing those who oppose Trump can do is become legal gun owners. It might literally come down to that. I pray to God it doesn’t, but it might.
I mean, yeah. That so many self-proclaimed "leftists" have ceded so much ground on gun ownership is bad news. Time to strap up and prepare for the worst. Passed time, really.
Yea, ain’t an option for me. This used to happen a lot more. But just holding a knife could be liable to give me a panic attack. Now I can shoot; I have shot guns before. But owning one? No. I am all for leftists and liberals arming themselves, but me? No, I’d get far too many panic attacks for it to be worth it.
Also just to explain it a tad more on the knife thing. My brain is well wacky and well for a long time I had anxiety over the fact depression existed and that I may get depression later in life. Hence why I used to basically be deathly afraid of knives. I’d assume the same would apply to guns. Haven’t shot one in years. But it’s not something my anxiety needs to find out.
I can see it happening. Using the Dobbs decision as precedent, they'll alter birthright citizenship by shifting the qualifying characteristic for citizenship from birth to conception, and then, if the parents can't prove that they had the sex that led to that child's conception in the United States, the baby will immediately be deported.
If it does pass it will almost certainly work via grandfather clause. Otherwise it would just be ****storm
I've never held or shot a gun, and I never will. But especially now, I think people gotta do whatever they think will keep them safe, legally. And it makes me sick to feel that way. I've always been very anti-gun.
The concept of the text of an Amendment of the Constitution with broad-based language applying only to persons living in the United States at the time of passing is insane. Specifically because... the Constitution makes specific language for "persons at a time" as in Article II, declaring who is eligible to become President of the United States. Also, specifically, there are like 90% of the Amendments that would become crazy if that logic was applied... (yes, yes, we're living in crazytown, but still...)
I was present at an anniversary parade for Turkey’s military occupation of northern Cyprus, concluding with a jingoistic speech from Erdogan, and this was exactly the vibe. If you use the “wayback machine” app, you can find that previous version with the racist message. That needs to be preserved and shared widely. This is what this administration thinks about anyone who speaks Spanish as a first language.
The legal argument is that this clause was only included in the 14th amendment to settle once and for all that former slaves are citizens, and undo Dred Scott. But that it didn’t necessarily mean going forward. Like how it was a one and done deal of the federal government assuming all debts of the states, The text of the amendment doesn’t seem to imply that limited scope in any ways, but you never know with this Supreme Court. But I don’t think the argument is this should be applied to other amendments.
Not fighting all the fights, little and big, is why the opposition in Hungary has completely failed to stop Orban. And now the country has settled into a non-democratic norm. They’re using the same playbook. Wake up. Most of the country didn’t vote for him. There are plenty of people available to fight him at every turn. This whole keep your powder dry consensus that’s building among Democrats is potentially disastrous.
Rubio implementing changes at Department of State, to put the U.S. first and no longer prioritize ideology or values (human rights, democracy, the environment, etc.) and only realpolitik for whatever will make the United States the unipolar hyperpower in the world, viewing the United States of having squandered its chance to rule the world after the Soviet Union fell because it decided to prioritize the international order over American self-interests. https://www.realclearpolitics.com/a...ange_cable_us_diplomats_worldwide_152229.html Fighting everything before led to people tuning out and not getting the really big news. Controversies haven’t really stuck to Trump, to sink him like it would most other politicians, because he floods us with them. Overreacting to everything only helps Trump, giving oxygen and fanning the flames. Another edit, repealing LBJ executive orders: This also possibly removes protections prohibiting federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.
Keep pushing people into a corner. Keep taking opportunities away from people to work within the system. Keep doing that in a country awash with guns. Real freaking smart.
I can’t believe that Rubio actually believes this. American power was so successful, and has remained so successful, through soft power. That has allowed it to avoid many of the pitfalls of older great powers, like France, Britain and the Soviet Union. Europe will break with the United States. America will be tied up in competition over Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Australia, Greenland and Japan as United States alliances seem less and less mutually beneficial. NATO will essentially become toothless, giving rise to instability in Europe, and therefore the stability of an American market and military projection. In the process it will isolate itself and dramatically reduce its ability to use its power.
This one is not surprising (nothing is with this thing) but will be interesting because all the tech companies use wording about hiring diverse people and also LEED when doing construction. Is all that going to be taken out of contracts now? I guess, yes.
All the elderly and sick on medicare/medicaid that voted for him are about to have a mass extinction event due to lack of access of affordable Rx. One way to curb population and open more jobs i guess?
