So I just got back from visiting my father in law at the hospital. It's quite sad he is dying of lung failure, he smoked about 50 years before having a stroke 20 years ago when he finally had a jump start on quitting and quit. He told me he hadn't had a cigarette in 20 years and I told him I knew and he told me he wished he quit sooner, all I could do was assure him that we all wished we did things differently.

But here's my two main take aways. Here I am with my kids one male with long pink hair and one with Autism and one of the family members on his side walks in the room with her Pink Trump shirt. And I highly doubt she thought she was offending any of us. Like I don't think she got that would be offensive. I don't think it's right to bring it up in the hospital, but I did bring it up with my mom later and here's the 2nd take away from my mom. She tells me "you take him too seriously." You see everyone nothing to worry about we shouldn't take all of this so seriously (heavy sarcasm.) I told my mom not to take her bills seriously to just stop paying them and see what happens. Because I was trying to figure out how to say it is serious. He is the president. His actions have real consequences. The problem is so many people in this country really don't think there are any consequences. Maybe they wake up in three weeks when store shelves start getting empty???

Well its very obvious a lot of people voted for him because they find him funny, because its all a joke and when things get serious everything will just take care of itself, as if by magic, because they just dont realize there are people in important positions who actually act like responsible adults, with all their flaws, they get things done and keep the world from falling appart. Trump has no idea what he's doing, he's just there for the attention, and people are just along for the ride because theyre so naive about so much.

That aside, Im sorry for your father in law. Not exactly the same, but I saw my dad wither away in a hospital from cirrhosis of the liver, and it was horrible.

Going back to this for the moment, to go over the impact this could have, we're looking at 15%+ of all federal regulations:

He didn't know about Project 2025... until he did.

Deporting US citizens was a joke... until it wasn't.

    I'll leave this one here.

Yes, it's on the Trump merchandise site. So, it's official.

The Nazis started with trying to get Jews to "self-deport". Then they tried forcibly deporting them. When mass deportations turned out to he unfeasible they started murdering them, and that's why it's called the Final Solution.

It’s good to see the things I’ve been posting about for months encapsulated in a John Oliver rant. But I wish it were’nt so completely accurate.

Well, from his point of view, I'd guess he needs some source of revenue to compensate for his tax cuts to bilionaire and corporations.

Ending public health at the federal level accomplishes some of that goal too. That’s why Musk was so enthusiastic about doge I’m sure.

other accomplishments, like ending the influence of research universities in the US, are just icing on the cake. Eventually they’ll figure out that this infrastructure was sustaining the billionaires too, but it will be too late. “Why is the US such a terrible place to earn money?” they’ll be asking themselves. “How did this happen?”

IPhones and GPS. Just two things you use every day, thanks to Public / Private / University cooperation.

The Third Reich brain drain is already happening. Top foreign grad students no longer willing to risk study in the US. Non citizen university faculty looking for posts abroad. Heavy hitter scientist no longer able to fund their labs in the US. The diaspora of expertise is already underway.

Stupidest. Craziest. People. Ever. I am sure by mid-week, JD Vance will be posting, "Where is his thank you, Shedeur?".

So Bessent is now saying it's up to China to "de-escalate" the trade war, and then in the same breath said they won't negotiate in the press. Man, it must be going really really really bad behind the scenes to the point China is telling the administration that they are never going to buy our soybeans ever again. Even the farmers are in a panic:

    https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/28/trade-war-tariffs-full-blown-crisis-us-farm-exporters-say.html

Trump is going to bail out all farmers this time, not just soybean farmers. Glad to see the treasury coffers are filled thanks to the tariffs and tax revenue *rolls eyes*

Meanwhile, the richest politician in the union (don't care what Forbes says, Trump has just as much debt as he does assets) is continuing to get louder as the leader of the resistance:

He might truly be your 2028 Democratic presidential nominee.

Representative Gerry Connolly has announced that his cancer has returned and as such, he will be stepping back from his role on the House Oversight Committee and will not be seeking re-election.

Gerry is my representative and a good guy. I am so sorry this is happening to him. He really impressed me getting on zoom calls during COVID and taking parent questions during a very difficult time. I wish him the best and thank him for his service.

Every seat matters right now with the Republicans having such a thin majority. We can't afford to just voluntarily give up a blue seat that might not be filled for months to come.

Trump's poll numbers are dropping, so he thinks polling companies should be investigated. It's almost comical.

Did they arrest the pastors? Looked like they left the ministers alone and shooed the press out. I mean, so much for freedom of the press (again), but the title oversold it a bit, IMO.
