That is a response to one of my posts I missed but it’s so good I at least wanted to say … yeah … individualism in the shape of exceptionalism. Everyone for himself. Probably nobody got or even gets today how that doomed what could have been the worlds greatest superpower (80 years make it historically more of a footnote though).

Amazon is considering displaying the additional cost to its items due to the Trump tariffs. The Trump administration is calling that a "hostile and political act" [face_rofl]

There should be a Trump Tariffs line right there in the cart summary box near 'taxes' and 'shipping costs". Hell, they should even make it animate or 'load' to make it look like the system has to 'recalculate' the new cost.

    Really hammer it home.

    **** them.

I got an email from my European organic wine club last night stating that the price is going up $3.30/bottle due to the tariffs and projected difficulty in sourcing 'European Artisan goods'. Price is going up next Monday; I placed my next order last night. Might not be ordering again for awhile.

Also, the next Democratic President should direct the CDC to display the maternal morbidity and mortality rate in states that have banned abortion vs those that have not. That'll be an eye-opener right there.

Maybe Jeffery should have considered this possibility before working to get Trump elected.

The geniuses of business at work. Truly, who could have predicted that Trump would try to impose sweeping tariffs except anyone who remembered he tried in his first term and anyone who paid attention to his repeated and clear statements throughout his 2024 campaign that he would impose sweeping tariffs? Completely unpredictable!

Just want people here to understand, this isn't Bezos or Amazon taking a political stand. This is Amazon trying to show its consumers that Amazon isn't increasing the prices, the tariffs are, so that people don't get angry at Amazon when they see the stuff they buy increase in price.

@mnjedi He doesn't care, Jeffrey is a MAGA nutball just like a lot of rich billionaires (Musk, Zuckerberg etc), as Amazon backed off:

    https://bsky.app/profile/ronfilipkowski.bsky.social

It will be interesting that while companies like Amazon and Walmart are trying to hide this, the little business owners (who are truly getting squeezed as not only were they unable to "stock up" but they also are at the back of the line for alternative supplies) are the truth tellers and putting it right out there in the open. The administration can complain all it wants, but it's becoming clear really fast that the sudden overnight price spikes are due to Tariff Man. Funny how they suddenly are afraid of the word.

Meanwhile, Bassent looks like a guy who might be quitting soon:

    https://bsky.app/profile/pbsnews.org/post/3lnxo3kswmc2q

He also stated today that China might lose 10 million jobs "quickly". It would be nice if we had an actual working press to tell him that, even if that's true (plenty of evidence suggests it isn't), that it's about 1% of their population. So, at most, the Chinese unemployment rate will go up about 1% due to the tariff war. Meanwhile, we are looking at potentially double-digit unemployment thanks to all of this.

He also notes that tariffs are long-term and that they have 17 trading relationships, with one on "pause".

So I expect shelves will be empty by Memorial Day so start stocking up now!

BBC News has an OpEd saying Canada's going to take the US' place as the leader of the global marketplace. I don't think countries are going to be changing their US$ to C$ right away, but the sentiment is clear.

"Underpinning this approach is absolute conviction that the US is making a mistake that will primarily and visibly backfire on itself, its companies, and its consumers."
"Jordan Peterson, an implacable opponent of Mark Carney, recently lamented on Joe Rogan's podcast that "once Carney is elected, Trump will not have a more seasoned enemy in the West."

@DarthIshyZ Carney already destroyed Trump about bonds. It's going to just get worse from there on out. The Trump resistance is in full bloom now internationally but I think it's going to take a true summer of discontent for it to grab hold here. Trump's approval ratings are brutal, but incredibly, they are still very fixable. But if we have a really bad summer with everything from empty shelves to violence in the streets over mass protests? You might finally see a true resistance begin to (finally) form. And look, I am biased, but I think this guy should be one of the main leaders for it:

    https://bsky.app/profile/acyn.bsky.social/post/3lnvnkyfd3c2h

@PCCViking The most hilarious part of that is that the Trump administration thinks it will be migrants who will struggle with that. They should look at their own voters on that one. It's going to be fun watching MAGA truckers struggle with this until the Trump administration gives them automatic passes and then makes the test impossible for migrant workers. Unreal.

@DarkGingerJedi Amazon is now getting pushback from dealers who say they will add it anyway on their end, even if it means posting a picture of the price tag broken down by line, with "tariffs" listed last before the total. So the revolution will continue with Jeffery in the corner, griping that his vendors have more guts than he can ever dream of.

But don't worry, Lutnick said a deal with the penguins is already done and just needs to be approved:

    https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/29/commerce-secretary-lutnick-trade-deal-unnamed-country-approval.html

They are pretty to the point of saying there are concepts of a deal. Listening to Lutnick talk, I can see why Japan was upset with the guy, even though it was being touted as a "slam dunk" deal that was supposed to prove these deals can come together quickly.

And he is gone back to us all working in factories again, now it's car factories:

    https://bsky.app/profile/atrupar.com/post/3lnxttdeyz62y

Never mind the fact that almost of these jobs will be automation within the next 15-20 years, the fact remains that what he says isn't true. Many cars that are sold here are made here. Honda, for example, manufactures many of its most popular vehicles, including the CR-V and Civics, in Gettysburg, Indiana. Yes, many of the parts aren't, but that is because 1. It is hard to find even the materials for those parts. and 2. The manufacturing of those parts isn't as high-paying a job as working on the actual assembly line where the car is built.

So on top of being a complete and utter dummy, he is also just a lying turd. Great combo.

@Luke02, you're preaching to the choir with most of us here on approval ratings. Averages are faulty because there's half the group above and below that line. This Newsweek article shows President Puffball has 65%+ approval still in a few states. And 55%+ in a whole lot more. Incredible.
