For some reason my grandpa has been giving me really lame and really cheap gifts the last few years for xmas, and it's not like he's low on money, and he only has me and my sister as grandkids. One year all he got me was a big bag of in-shell peanuts, another year he gave me a bag of candy and $5.

Edible things are always a safe bet as gifts because at least you know they'll probably be put to use.

... unless they're fruitcakes, in which case they'll probably sit uneaten in the box for five years.

I think what O'Reilly did was write a book that Dubya could understand, but the low level of reading comprehension required confused the publisher and they sold it as a children's book.

I thought most grandmas knew enough to just give cash. Better luck next year.

I don't remember ever getting the same present twice, only once, and it was on the same birthday and from two different persons.

Every year my wifes Grandmother gives me a pair of cheap cotton work gloves from Fleet Farm, that is what I look forward to this year for Christmas as well.

In her defense though, she lived on a farm for 50+ years and probably assumes that I would actually have a need for them. I don't, and out of the past 4 pairs I have gotten I have used 1 pair (which are still in almost new condition).

But it's the thought that counts right?

I'm still trying to recover from the horror of receiving this for a present Christmas of '83.

Yeah, my mother's ability to pick out good Star Wars action figures FTL.

I remember she got me a Boba Fett for what had to be three years in a row, thinking they were Stormtroopers.

That beats anything I ever got as a gift personally...but for my wedding we were given an electric knife (probably registered for one)...we got 2, so we go to return one of them and the store couldn't find it on it's records. It clearly has the store's logo on a sticker on the box...but come to find out the knife (never been opened mind you) was probably 8-10 years old....people had obviously regifted one of their wedding presents. Try getting nothing from your grandparents for your birthday in April...then, in August watching them write a check for a thirty-two thousand-dollar car.

I tried to give my grandmother something for her birthday a few years back, but she turned it down, so I haven't tried.
