Amph "There's More Than One King" - The MonsterVerse [Godzilla x Kong: Supernova]

There is a fan theory that Kong will win because there is no "king" in his name, and if he wins he becomes King Kong. Setting up a sequel. But I just want Godzilla to win as this is already a rematch.

Was rewatching the original 1954 Gojira the other day. Classic.

Believe it or not, I've never seen all of the "Americanized" version, but this Criterion blu ray has both, so I'm looking forward to seeing what Raymond Burr has to say about our favorite kaiju.

No. No. Stupid Legendary Pictures. Godzilla for the win. He's a nuclear-fire breathing, gargantuan lizard-dino (So much cooler than a giant ape.)

And Godzilla has a better rogues gallery and... Mothra.

Plus, when I die I can fly right into Godzilla's mouth.

Oh wow! I grew up watching only the Burr version (it was all we had). Even though the original version is superior, I'll still always have a soft spot for the '56 American cut.

That's cool. I hear that a lot about the Americanized cut as I live in the US so that makes sense, since that version was what was available.

I'm most familiar with the Millennium Era of Godzilla films, as those were the first ones I ever saw in their entirety.

I've only seen a handful of films from the Showa Era. Mothra (1961) and Godzilla vs Mothra (1964) being two of my favorites from that period, including Gojira (1954).

 

Well I'm sure we can plan something around a two minute trailer.

 

A Star Wars forum can stretch out obsessing over a two minute trailer for 6 months.

 

That trailer made me scream in joy like a girl. This is going to be awesome.

 

This is going to be like the first Transformers

Absolutely awful story tempered by big monsters (robots) kicking crap out of each other

(Yeah I am so not a King Kong fan, but this was dumb. And I didn’t think they could get stupider than Godzilla King of Monsters, but there you go.)

Them setting up Kong as the good guy does not bode well for Godzilla imo.
Kong on a ship is a nice nod to the 76 film and King Kong Escapes.

 

On the one hand every scene with the humans looked even worse than the usual bad scenes with the humans but on the other hand that giant ape had a radioactive axe so 10/10, movie of the year.

 

I'm ready for this.

 

I don’t watch these kinds of movies for the human drama. I watch them to see two monsters smash each other. It’s schlock but I know what I’m getting when I walk in so that’s okay.
