Amph "There's More Than One King" - The MonsterVerse [Godzilla x Kong: Supernova]

There are times I DO kind of give myself scrutiny that I am not just sharing every passing thought on the Boards, as if they are of general interest. Even so...I may sometimes be guilty of that. If this is one of those cases, apologies!

Last week, my brother and I went to a "FATHOM Event" showing of GODZILLA: TOKYO SOS at a local movie theater. What a fun experience! For one thing, it was just fun to be in a theater with a bunch of Godzilla fans. Granted, there was little interaction, but just knowing that everyone there was also a Godzilla fan from the (more or less) local area was very cool. For another, all of the ads before the movie were for Godzilla toys and products, and all the trivia was Godzilla-related. Before the movie, they showed a short CGI feature with Godzilla vs "Gigan Rex" that was awesome. And, it was wonderful to see a Godzilla movie on the big screen, with subtitles (I know some prefer the dubbed versions). I've seen TOKYO:SOS before, but seeing it on a big screen, with a movie theater sound system? WOW. Just great.

I wish they did this more often. I would LOVE to see the original GOJIRA this way, and wow would I love to see the 60s GODZILLA VS THE THING and KING KONG VS GODZILLA, and GHIDRAH (GHIDORAH?).

PS - I love the amount of monster action in TOKYO:SOS, and I love the fight choreography. One moment that made a huge impression on me the first time I saw it, and continues to - SPOILERS if you care! -- is when Godzilla is down on the ground, and Mechagodzilla is advancing on him... for a finishing blow?... and you see Godzilla's eye shift cunningly, and his tail swipes out Mechagodzilla's legs, so MechaG falls face forward...right into an atomic blast. Really awesome, clever, great fight choreography!

So the title changed from the early leaks from Godzilla And Kong to Godzilla X Kong: generic title er I mean A New Empire. TBH even though it's not great I kinda like the And title better. X makes it seem either like they will fight (like GxMxMG: Tokyo SOS) or start hugging it out.

This actually managed to decrease my anticipation. I really hope another ape monster isn't the only villain. Just think it would be underwhelming especially with a huge rogues gallery Godzilla has. I'm open to original titans but another monkey/ape seems redundant.

A lot of fans online are making King Louie jokes.

 

Just not into Kong. Giant apes aren’t my thing.

Same. I only cared about Godzilla vs Kong and King Kong versus Godzilla because of Gojira. I am Zillian to the core.

 

So, its a TOHO movie, not part of the "Monsterverse", but any other G Fans out there catch the teaser for GODZILLA MINUS ONE?

This just HAS to get a US release...even if it's a one night/one weekend FATHOM event!

 

I saw the teaser trailer. Nice. Hopefully Godzilla fights another monster. Bring on Godzilla vs. Gargantuas.

 

Amazing 35 seconds, hope rest of the movie is as good.

Yeah, that teaser is amazing, brief as it is. Godzilla looks great, and I love the suggestion that the tone will be closer to the '54 original than what we've seen since (as much fun as all the OTHER Godzilla films have been). I love the idea that we are probably...maybe...going to get a shot at seeing this on a big screen in a theater (hopefully subtitled, but I know that is not everyone's preference!). I've heard that the December 1 date is for some kind of "American release" but not sure how wide a release, whether it will be some kind of special "Fathom event" thing, etc.

 

I'm really torn between the two ideas: Godzilla alone like '54 and Shin or vs like Millennium and 2014. I tend to like the ones where he is the only monster the most (Return of... is my favorite).

That being said I won't deny that monster fights are more fun to watch. They also make up most of the films. Vs Kong had a decent mix of vs humans and vs monsters.


Definitely digging the new design. Would love to go on that 3D Ride.

 

I watched Godzilla vs. Destroyah last night. I liked it. The Hong Kong scenes at the start were very well done.

 

Both of those scenes are spectacular.

Everyone says it's cheesy but I think Godzilla being escorted by fighter jets is one of the greatest things ever. Now that's a general leading an army.

 

Ended up watching Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla, that song that lady sings at the end is pretty great

 

That's a fun movie.

 

This was my first Showa movie and was really confused in the beginning why the humans questioned Godzilla destroying buildings and wreaking havoc. Thought that's just what he does.

 

I was looking for Shin Godzilla which got pulled from a streaming service when I saw it was by the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion, so I'm okay with weird.

I wasn't sure when watching Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla where it landed on the "friend Godzilla" or "foe Godzilla" scale at the start but since there's Aliens its easy to figure out

 

A scary looking ‘zilla works for me.
